Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Don't Be Fooled by God's Perspective

"Look over there, look at building number seven, someone is operating a drone!"

It was unclear whether Zheng Xinyu was just lucky or had sharp eyes, but she quickly spotted someone hunched behind a window on the second floor of the middle segment of building number seven, controlling a drone in the sky.

Just as Zhang Su looked over at building number seven, he suddenly saw four figures appear at the corner of the building, and the person controlling the drone leaned out to see his companions approaching. He placed the remote on the windowsill and, without hesitation, jumped down!

The seamless execution by this group suggested a plan that had been rehearsed for a long time, at least up to that moment everything went smoothly. Unfortunately, the real challenge was just beginning!

Though the second floor was only slightly over three meters high, without mastering some technique, one could easily end up crippled, and if unlucky, even face the risk of death.

Clearly, the guy who dared to jump was not reckless. As he landed, he rolled forward and then fell flat on the ground, a bit clumsy but effectively cushioning the impact of the fall.

Four people rushed to the man's side; a woman among them helped him up from the ground, while another man handed him a backpack. The man who had jumped down followed the crowd as they sprinted toward the wall, strapping the backpack on his back.

Quickly, the five reached the collapsed wall, but just as they were preparing to climb over, a small group of zombies charged at them from the other side of the building!

The danger occurred in an instant, clearly catching them off guard as two immediately tumbled onto the ruins in a panic.

The zombies' movements seemed stiff, but their speed was not slow. They could achieve a human brisk walk speed while pursuing prey, quickly reaching the two who had fallen.

"Danger!"

Zhang Su's hand gripping the windowsill tightened out of nervousness, knuckles turning white. In his mind, he imagined how he would handle such a situation.

Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan clenched their fists long ago, so tense they dared not even breathe, as if they themselves were the ones fleeing for their lives.

"Pick up bricks and smash them, the backpack is too soft, it's useless!"

Zheng Xinyu anxiously suggested as she saw a woman among the crowd using a travel bag to bash a zombie's head.

Someone in the group seemed to hear Zheng Xinyu's words. A man bent down to pick up a wall fragment as large as a watermelon and threw it at the zombies, yet something absurd happened...

The man, perhaps too tense, forgot to let go in time while throwing the fragment. The massive force carried him forward in a stumble, causing him to fall from the collapsed ruins!

Facing zombies, even tripping on flat ground is dangerous, let alone falling from a height. However, his fall knocked the zombies off the two companions, allowing them to catch a breath and climb up using their hands and feet!

"Hiss!!"

Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan gasped as they saw the man fell along with the zombies.

"This is hopeless..."

Zhang Su whispered, with a hint of sadness. Based on the scene, unless they united to fight together, only firearms could rescue the man.

Firearms were almost impossible to come by, and fighting zombies together...

If organized and prepared, maybe, but caught off guard, no way to react!

As he expected, the reaction of those on the ruins was slower than the zombies' instincts. The zombies at the bottom of the ruins, thrilled by the presence of fresh blood, lunged forward instantly, while those on the ruins just stared helplessly.

Facing a single zombie attack, an average adult male, unless injured immediately by a sneak attack, still had a chance to fight and win. But facing three or four zombies at once, while being disoriented from the fall...

The outcome was predictably tragic.

Zombies gathered around, and the man's terrified cries for help could be faintly heard by Zhang Su and others from nearly a hundred meters away. His arms swung desperately in the air, like a drowning man trying to grasp for a saving straw. Yet no one could rescue him...

A zombie ducked its head and bit into the man's exposed neck, blood splattering three feet!

Outside, a woman's hysterical cries echoed; a woman on the ruins, wearing a raincoat, furiously threw stones at the zombie biting the man, but it was futile, failing to slow the biting in the slightest.

The commotion attracted zombies from other areas. Soon, some zombies noticed them, separating from the group chasing the speaker and heading toward the wall's ruins.

A man in the group covered the woman's mouth, while another dragged her across the street, leaving one behind clumsily fending off zombies climbing the ruins, then catching up to the others.

Soon, their figures vanished behind obstacles, leaving the man who threw rocks at the zombies eternally beneath the ruins.

Just scaling the collapsed community wall, albeit with some planning and preparation, still resulted in death—how tragic.

"Those two people, they just ran off like that..."

Zheng Xinyu stared in disbelief at the spot where those people vanished, dazed.

Even if others ignored the fallen man, it was unimaginable that the rescued two didn't extend help, revealing to her the horror of human nature.

Zhong Xiaoshan found it hard to accept as well, speaking softly: "There are only six zombies, two already tumbled aside. Killing all those zombies might not be easy, but if those four had fought back together, they had a chance to save the deceased!"

"Exactly." Zhang Su's voice was heavy: "Yet ordinary people have little chance of making the most advantageous decision and executing it during a crisis. Fear and selfishness are bound to dominate—it's human nature; there's no need to feel guilty..."

"Unless one is trained as a soldier, it's rare for anyone to be born willing to sacrifice for the team and whole, don't be misled by a God-like perspective. If one day we face the same peril, we might not fare better than those who ran away!"

Zhang Su spoke earnestly, seeing Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan look at him skeptically, he continued: "As spectators, we can imagine countless possibilities after the event and choose the best one, believing we've made the best judgment, but if we become the witnesses..."

"Can you guarantee a reaction within just one second?"

Before his words dropped, Zhang Su swiftly swung his arm, the ax wooshing to a stop in front of the two.

"Ah..."

"Don't..."

No surprise, their actions coincided perfectly, both closing their eyes and shielding themselves with their hands.

"See, when true danger occurs, there's no chance for you to analyze slowly with a godly perspective, only subconscious reactions, and this subconscious reaction isn't necessarily the optimal solution!"

Zhang Su halted his arm's movement, speaking slowly: "If it was us three just now... I could certainly get away alone. With your current state, there's an eighty percent chance you'll perish, and if I try to escape along with you, there's a fifty percent chance we all might die!"

Zheng Xinyu and Zhong Xiaoshan exchanged a glance, their hearts mixed with emotions after witnessing a survivor being devoured by zombies, feeling powerless as if they were there themselves.

"Is there no way out then? I refuse to be a burden!"

Zheng Xinyu defiantly asked, a touch of stubbornness in her eyes.

"Practice."

Zhang Su's response was just one word.

Practice not only skills but also courage, boldness, and reaction!
