In the interrogation record, the police asked Ye Jiadong's children why he abandoned teaching and went into business three years before the incident.
Ye Jiadong's son gave a simple answer: teaching was too dull, he wanted a change.
But Ye Jiadong's daughter said in the record: "My father has always been reticent and honest, not good at social interactions. So even after many years of teaching, he remained stagnant."
"My mother has a strong personality. At first, she valued my father's teaching job, thinking it was a stable livelihood. But later, after my father introduced her to circles she didn't belong to, she saw many people climbing up in the world. She became disgusted with my father, thinking he was just a clean-cut college teacher on the outside but actually a coward unwilling to leave his comfort zone."
