"Naruto: Ice God"Chapter 95: The New Captain of Team 7
Inspired by Feng Bai's words, Nonoyu didn't waste a moment and went straight to find Hiruzen Sarutobi.
You couldn't blame her for being so anxious—after all, the one targeting her was Danzo, and who knew what schemes that ruthless man might be plotting against her at this very moment.
With his conversation partner gone, Feng Bai walked directly over to Yakushi Kabuto.
Faced with Feng Bai—who even the staff found intimidating—Kabuto looked up, showing no sign of fear, simply meeting his gaze with calm composure.
"What's your name?"
Feng Bai asked, though he already knew the answer.
"Kabuto. Yakushi Kabuto."
Adjusting his glasses, Kabuto replied in a steady voice.
"Good kid."
Feng Bai reached out and ruffled Kabuto's hair, crouching down to meet his eyes: "You must work hard to become stronger, and help Sister Nonoyu, understand?"
"Become stronger?"
Kabuto rolled the words around in his mouth thoughtfully.
"That's right. In this cannibalistic ninja world, only strength is the foundation for survival."
Taking Kabuto's hand, Feng Bai placed a senbon in his palm: "Plundering and being plundered—every disadvantage in this world stems from insufficient ability. Do you understand?"
"I'll recommend two instructors for you when I get the chance. Well, they should be instructors, I suppose. With their guidance, becoming strong will be just around the corner."
Thinking of Yamanaka Zen and Shimura Ikku, Feng Bai—who believed in sharing good things—flashed a sinister smile that made Kabuto somewhat uneasy.
"Ahem, let's go, Yamato."
Controlling his expression, Feng Bai returned to his caring big brother persona, smiled as he bid farewell to everyone at the orphanage, and left with Yamato.
Kabuto held the senbon, watching Feng Bai's departing figure, lost in contemplation.
...
Both Danzo and Feng Bai tacitly avoided mentioning Nonoyu's situation. After hearing Nonoyu's proposal, Hiruzen Sarutobi readily agreed to support the orphanage, on the condition that it would take in a group of orphans designated by the village leadership.
The once small orphanage instantly became bustling with activity. With the increased number of children, Nonoyu led everyone in expanding the building, and the production of handmade crafts began in earnest.
While Feng Bai enjoyed a rare holiday with Yamato, ANBU under Hiruzen's command delivered a summons.
Arriving at the Hokage Building, he pushed open the office door and immediately saw Hiruzen sitting behind his desk, with Danzo standing beside him, back turned to the entrance.
"Teacher Sarutobi, Father."
Feng Bai bowed respectfully to both men, glancing around and noticing he was the only one summoned—which left him somewhat puzzled.
"Haha, have you been resting well, Feng Bai?"
Hiruzen cheerfully looked over his student, offering his usual caring inquiries.
"Thanks to your kindness, quite well."
After the customary pleasantries, Hiruzen shifted to the main topic.
"Iwagakure has already made their move against us. The situation is urgent, and our border patrol forces are insufficient. I've already dispatched Minato ahead to defend against the enemy."
His expression growing serious, Hiruzen crossed his hands on the desk and informed Feng Bai of the situation.
"What's more troublesome is that Kusagakure, which previously maintained friendly relations with Konoha, has suddenly sided with Iwagakure, giving them a relatively stable supply route."
"Given that you once cooperated with Orochimaru in raiding Kumogakure's supply base, I hope you can go to Kusagakure, eliminate the enemy forces while seeking opportunities to destroy their supply line—the Kannabi Bridge."
Placing a scroll on the desk, Hiruzen added: "Of course, you may refuse."
Kannabi Bridge...
The battle where Kakashi obtains the Sharingan? I never expected this to fall to me.
Well, I'll just treat it as taking a hit for my dear son Obito.
If I go instead of Obito this time, when Madara comes looking for someone named 'Obito' or 'Obiko,' it really won't concern me.
Thinking of Obito's goofy face after all these years together, Feng Bai truly didn't want to see him degenerate into that bizarre appearance—half wrinkled face, half smooth egg-face.
"I understand. I accept this mission."
Feng Bai resolutely picked up the scroll from the desk.
"Worthy of being my student."
Seeing Feng Bai accept the mission, Hiruzen's stern expression faded, replaced by approval.
Hearing Hiruzen's words, Danzo—who had been gazing out at the Hokage Rock—furrowed his brow deeply, his head instinctively turning toward Hiruzen.
What do you mean 'your student'? That's my son!
If Feng Bai weren't present, Danzo would have roared to correct him.
Noticing Danzo's subtle movement, Hiruzen thought of something and began elaborating on the mission details: "To obtain this intelligence, Root suffered considerable losses. Therefore, your teammates for this battle will be assigned by me, and your classification will also be transferred from Root to regular ninja ranks."
Hearing Hiruzen's words, Feng Bai was momentarily stunned. Did this mean he finally wouldn't have to team up with those two "farmers"?
This was good news indeed.
"Because Minato left in haste, his Team 7 is still in the village. I heard you served as acting captain during the Kumogakure campaign, so coordination shouldn't be an issue."
Just as Feng Bai thought Hiruzen would assign him some normal teammates, the next words left him completely dumbfounded.
Team 7—doesn't that mean...
Although not at the same time, it's the same battlefield. Will our great comrade Obito still perform his legendary 'falling rock' act for everyone?
"That's right. From today on, you are the captain of Team 7."
...
The next morning.
"Sorry, sorry, I'm late..."
Obito arrived as usual, hands pressed together in apology before even reaching the destination. But halfway through his apology, sensing something amiss, he looked up to observe carefully.
Rin stood with hands behind her back, smiling sweetly at him.
Kakashi, as always, wore his smug expression while leaning against a training post.
Where's the captain?
"Congratulations, Obito. After nearly a year as teammates, this is the first time you haven't been the last to arrive."
Kakashi glanced at Obito, speaking with his characteristic sarcasm.
"Of course, Kakashi! I've been improving too—wait, are you still making fun of me?"
Obito naturally picked up the conversation at first, but realized something was wrong halfway through.
"Drop the 'still'—I am making fun of you."
Looking at his foolish teammate, Kakashi sighed, genuinely worried about Obito's intelligence. 🔥 Want to read the next 50+ chapters RIGHT NOW?
