Chapter 192 - The New Team 7, The Lost

Minato Namikaze had a grand design for his son's future, and the decision regarding Naruto's squad placement was made with surgical precision.

When it came to his son's development, Minato was not one to be swayed by external pressures.

While other high-ranking officials might have fretted over public perception—worrying if placing several children of noble clans into a single team would spark rumors of favoritism—Minato had no such qualms. Every choice he made was calculated to ensure Naruto had the best possible environment to grow.

Whether it was his teammates or his instructor, Minato selected only those who would act as a catalyst for Naruto's potential.

Furthermore, the families of Uchiha Sasuke and Hyuga Hinata were already deeply intertwined with the Hokage's office. Even their instructor, Hatake Kakashi, was Minato's own disciple and a trusted confidant. Minato knew that these teammates would eventually become Naruto's most vital pillars of support.

The Power Ranking of a Generation

Among the Jōnin close to Kakashi's age, Minato saw the silver-haired ninja as the one with the most promising future.

While Might Guy was undeniably powerful, his eccentric personality made him unsuited for a role in the village's core decision-making body. Sarutobi Asuma, despite being the Third Hokage's son, had limited personal talent; Minato viewed the rank of Jōnin as Asuma's ceiling.

Placing him in a position of too much authority would only invite disaster. In Minato's eyes, Asuma's strength was barely enough to maintain his status, and he simply could not be compared to the likes of Kakashi.

Other peers were equally disqualified for various reasons. Uchiha Shisui was perhaps the most competitive candidate, but his Uchiha bloodline meant that the old guard, led by the Third Hokage, would surely block any attempt to elevate him too high.

Until that older generation passed on, it would be difficult for a Uchiha to move freely through the highest echelons of Konoha's power.

As for Hyuga Shinichi, Minato predicted he would be tied down by the administrative burdens of the Hyuga clan. The Hyuga's external industries and internal clan politics—split between the Main and Branch houses—were far more demanding than the Uchiha's.

Thus, Kakashi was the "correct" choice. He had the right lineage, the right experience, and the right temperament. He was the one Minato intended to groom as a successor.

Political Handshakes

With Naruto's team settled, the rest of the assignments were finalized quickly. As per tradition, the children of the Ino-Shika-Cho trio were placed together. Their instructor would be Sarutobi Asuma.

Asuma had recently returned to the village following the disbandment of the "Guardian Shinobi Twelve," an organization formed by the Fire Daimyō that had ultimately collapsed due to internal strife.

As the son of Hiruzen Sarutobi, Asuma was the logical choice for the three clans most loyal to the Sarutobi family. Even if the old Hokage had objections, he could hardly refuse a setup that favored his own son. Minato had read the room perfectly.

The entire process took barely an hour, leaving both Minato and Hiashi enough time to return home for dinner. As they walked out of the Hokage building, Hiashi offered his thanks.

"I must thank you, Fourth Hokage, for placing Hinata under Kakashi's guidance."

Minato smiled warmly. "Don't mention it, Hiashi. Hinata's talent is exceptional. Among our Jōnin, Kakashi is uniquely qualified to lead her. While the Sharingan isn't the Byakugan, the shared nature of their 'insight' means Kakashi can offer her perspectives that others simply can't."

A Match Made in the Academy

Minato's eyes twinkled as they continued their walk. "I suspect Naruto will be thrilled as well. Working with close friends will foster a sense of unity that they couldn't find elsewhere. Kushina is quite fond of Hinata; you should bring her over more often."

Hiashi, a veteran of political subtext, heard the unspoken words loud and clear. Minato had been a "prodigy" since his Academy days, having pursued Kushina from a young age. Now, Naruto and Hinata were growing up together in the same squad. If things went well, their bond would become unbreakable.

A marriage between the Hokage's house and the Hyuga clan would be a powerhouse alliance. For Naruto, it meant the backing of the Hyuga for life. For Hinata, it meant a future as the wife of the Hokage's lineage, supported by the village's highest authority.

"Haha, well said," Hiashi replied with a chuckle. "We shall let the children find their own way. As a father, I only wish for her happiness."

The Butterfly Effect

Back at the Hyuga estate, Hiashi "casually" mentioned the news to Hinata over dinner. The girl's joy was immediate and overflowing. Sasuke's presence was a non-factor to her—all that mattered was being on Naruto's team.

Shinichi, however, sat in stunned silence.

What? he thought, staring at his excited sister. Is the plot diverging this much? Hinata and Naruto on the same team? Then what happened to Sakura? The "New Three Sannin" he expected was being rewritten before his eyes.

He realized he needed to pay close attention to the events unfolding at the school tomorrow.

The Survival Test Begins

The next morning, Hinata was out the door before the sun was fully up. Despite her excitement keeping her awake half the night, she was a bundle of energy.

After breakfast, Shinichi retreated to the clan's tea room. After finishing some paperwork, he turned his focus toward the Academy.

The Tenseigan was the ultimate evolution of the Byakugan. Shinichi's vision now far exceeded the limits of normal Hyuga; he could easily observe the entire village from the comfort of his home.

At the Academy, Iruka finished his final speech and left the classroom, leaving the graduates to wait for their new Jōnin instructors. One by one, the teachers arrived. Asuma entered and introduced himself, drawing gasps when the students learned he was the Third Hokage's son. He quickly led the Ino-Shika-Cho trio away.

One after another, the instructors—including Kurenai Yuhi—claimed their students. Soon, the room was empty save for three: Naruto, Sasuke, and Hinata.

The wait was agonizing. Naruto, who had been raised with discipline under Minato and Kushina, wasn't a prankster like in the original timeline, but the boredom was still crushing. He eventually slumped over his desk to nap.

It wasn't until the sun was high in the sky that Shinichi, watching through his Tenseigan, saw a figure approach.

Kakashi Hatake slid the door open. Naruto, sensing the shift in the air, sat up and squinted at the silver-haired man.

"Sorry, sorry, I'm late," Kakashi said, a lazy smile visible behind his mask. "I ran into an old lady on the way here, and then I accidentally got lost on the path of life."

Kakashi's eyes swept over the trio: the Uchiha prodigy, the Hokage's son, and the Hyuga heiress.

In the tea room, Shinichi let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. It was Kakashi. But then, a new worry surfaced. Kakashi was famous for his high standards and his internal "Bell Test."

With Hinata replacing Sakura, Shinichi wondered: Can this version of Team 7 actually pass?
