Lin Chen quickly carried Lin Xiaoqian inside. The crowd outside was too noisy and chaotic for her liking.
Elder Yang also brought his granddaughter inside. She was nearly five years old, considerably older than Lin Xiaoqian.
"Xiao Lin, this is my son's youngest daughter, Yang Kexin. Kexin, this is Xixi. You don't have anyone to play with, so why not join her?" Elder Yang said with a smile.
Yang Kexin eyed Lin Xiaoqian. "Grandpa, she's too little. She doesn't understand anything. She wouldn't be any fun."
Lin Xiaoqian retorted indignantly, "I'm not little! I'll be three soon. I'm a big kid already."
"Then Xixi, what can you do?" Yang Kexin asked. "I can speak a foreign language, you know."
With that, Yang Kexin rattled off a passage in fluent English, a testament to her elite education.
"I can do that too," Lin Xiaoqian replied, switching to English. Her fluency far surpassed Yang Kexin's.
"This—"
The bigwigs stared in astonishment.
Yang Kexin was fine, after all, she was over four years old. It was normal for her to be so fluent after being raised bilingually from a young age. Lin Xiaoqian, on the other hand, wasn't even three years old yet.
Many native English-speaking children of that age struggled to speak, far from Lin Xiaoqian's fluency.
"Xixi, you're so amazing," Yang Kexin said, looking at Lin Xiaoqian with admiration. "What else can you do?"
Yang Kexin didn't want to play with some clueless little kid, but Lin Xiaoqian's abilities had earned her approval.
"I can draw, sing, and do math too!" Lin Xiaoqian replied.
Yang Kexin's interest was piqued. "Math? Let me test you. What's three plus two?"
Lin Xiaoqian paused.
She hadn't expected Yang Kexin's question to be so simple.
"Five, Kexin-jie! That's too easy!" Lin Xiaoqian said in her childish voice.
"Then what's sixteen plus twenty-seven?" Yang Kexin asked.
"Ahem," Old Yang cleared his throat. "Kexin, Xixi is so young. How could she possibly answer such a difficult question?"
"Forty-three," Lin Xiaoqian stated directly.
The elders were immediately intrigued.
Lin Xiaoqian wasn't even three years old yet. For a child of that age, being able to count to ten would have been quite impressive.
"Xiao Lin, is Xixi really this good at math?" Old Zhang asked.
Lin Chen replied, "Xixi is almost at junior high level. She has a remarkable talent for mathematics." He didn't conceal the truth; letting these influential figures know about Lin Xiaoqian's abilities would benefit her.
"Hiss!" The elders were all astonished.
*Less than three years old, yet she's already at junior high level in math? This is a top-tier mathematical prodigy!*
"Xixi, let me give you a problem. Try to solve it and see if you can. What do you say?" Elder Li asked, his eyes twinkling with interest. He was a math whiz who had scored a perfect score on his college entrance exam in the subject.
"Mhm!" Lin Xiaoqian nodded.
Elder Li quickly posed the question: "Spiders have 8 legs, dragonflies have 6 legs and 2 pairs of wings, and cicadas have 6 legs and 1 pair of wings. There are a total of 18 insects of these three types, with 118 legs and 20 pairs of wings. How many of each type of insect are there?"
The elders: "..."
Old Zhang said irritably, "Li, are you crazy? Xixi is just a child! You're giving her an Olympiad-level problem!"
"Even a normal sixth-grader wouldn't find this easy."
As soon as Old Zhang finished speaking, Lin Xiaoqian piped up in her childish voice, "Five spiders, seven dragonflies, and six cicadas."
"Daddy, was I right?" she asked.
Lin Chen kissed her cheek. "That's right, Xixi. You're amazing."
Yang Kexin gazed at Lin Xiaoqian in astonishment. "Xixi, you're so clever! I couldn't even follow the question."
Elder Li stared at Lin Xiaoqian in disbelief. The problem wasn't easy; many sixth-graders would struggle to answer it, let alone so quickly. Yet Lin Xiaoqian had provided the correct answer with such speed and accuracy. She hadn't even started kindergarten! By the time she graduated from elementary school, she'd probably have finished college-level calculus.
"Kexin sister, it was all Daddy's teaching," Lin Xiaoqian said, a hint of pride in her voice. "My daddy is the best!"
Elder Li smiled. "Xixi, you mentioned you can draw. Would you like to paint us a picture?"
"Okay!" Lin Xiaoqian nodded without hesitation.
"I can draw too," Yang Kexin added, as she had also taken art lessons.
Elder Li had someone fetch watercolor paints from outside. Lin Xiaoqian and Yang Kexin went to the next room to begin their artwork.
"Xiao Lin, Xixi has an exceptional talent for mathematics. If we nurture it properly, she could become a top-tier mathematician. How about I help you find her a brilliant math tutor?" Elder Li suggested to Lin Chen.
Lin Chen replied, "Thank you for your kind offer, Elder Li, but I'd prefer not to."
Old Yang interjected, "Xiao Lin, Elder Li is a math whiz. He knows the field well and could find Xixi an excellent teacher. Xixi's talent is remarkable, but she still needs guidance from a skilled instructor."
Lin Chen chuckled lightly. "Old Yang, what I mean is, I can teach Xixi myself. She doesn't need anyone else to teach her."
"Hmm?" Old Yang was taken aback.
Elder Li quickly pressed, "Don't tell me your math skills are also exceptionally brilliant?"
Lin Chen replied, "My math skills aren't as high as my calligraphy or painting, but I should be able to reach the global top five."
"Hiss!"
Elder Li and the others were stunned once more.
This was mathematics—a subject many considered akin to theology!
"Global top five... I shouldn't have spoken out of turn," Elder Li said with a sigh of admiration. "No wonder Lin Xiaoqian is so good at math."
It was clear that Lin Xiaoqian had inherited her father's talent, and with Lin Chen's personal tutelage, it would be difficult for her not to excel.
Old Zhang calculated: "Xiao Lin, you're remarkable at fairy tales, calligraphy, painting, basketball, cooking, medicine, and math."
"Are there any other areas where you excel?"
The others were astonished when Old Zhang listed these.
They already knew about these, of course.
If he hadn't listed them, it would have been fine. But this list was truly astonishing.
Lin Chen smiled lightly. "Old Zhang, I don't know many other things I'm good at. You should let me keep some secrets."
"Alright, that's enough to be intimidating as it is," Old Zhang nodded.
Old Yang asked, "Xiao Lin, with so many skills, what do you plan to focus on for your career?"
"My main job is being a stay-at-home dad," Lin Chen replied. "These are just my side hustles. I haven't really considered career development yet."
"Xixi will be starting kindergarten soon, won't she?" Old Yang pressed. "When she goes, won't you think about your career?"
Lin Chen shook his head.
"I plan to hold off on kindergarten for her until next year. I'll teach her myself—she'll learn more from me than in a classroom."
Elder Li nodded. "You're right, your teaching would be better. Xixi is likely to become a top mathematician in the future. It's important to lay a solid foundation for her now."
The group continued chatting, their enthusiasm for Lin Chen and his daughter palpable.
Lin Chen's strength was truly extraordinary.
And Lin Xiaoqian was already so capable; she would likely become a pillar of the nation in the future.
The Lin family's rise was unstoppable!
Even those in high positions wanted to befriend Lin Chen.
