Chapter 95: Sengoku Owes Me 80 Million
A dazzling golden light flared, and Sengoku's body swelled. In the next instant, he transformed into a massive golden Buddha, fists clenched, eyes blazing as he glared at Roy.
"With a head full of bumps, you really do look the part. Why not call yourself Sengoku the Buddha from now on?" Roy studied him and immediately realized he had eaten a Devil Fruit.
"Sengoku the Buddha? Not a bad title!" Sengoku grinned, his golden face practically glowing.
Just like that, Roy gave him the "Buddha" nickname years ahead of schedule.
"How about we gamble again?" Sengoku stepped forward, the ground trembling under his weight as he spoke excitedly.
He had lost last time and broken a few promises. This time, he wanted to win them back.
"You're doomed to lose," Roy said with a shake of his head. The next moment, he drew his sword and slashed at Sengoku.
"Hmph. Using a sword?" Sengoku narrowed his eyes, threw a punch, then followed with a palm thrust, aiming to grab Roy.
A shockwave burst from his palm and crashed toward Roy.
Clang, clang!
Roy's longsword rang nonstop. The shockwave hit him a heartbeat later, rippling through his body and leaving him a little uncomfortable.
It was like a masseur losing focus and jabbing too hard.
Sengoku had only just gotten his fruit and started developing it. Compared to his future self, the shockwave was still weak. It could not break Roy's defense, only rattle him a bit.
The shockwave tore across the lawn. Flowers and grass were shredded in an instant, dirt blasting upward as dust filled the air. The ground looked like it had been plowed clean through.
Sengoku stared into the dust, fists tight, scanning for Roy.
A light breeze swept by. A short figure exploded out of the haze, swinging his sword. A blue slash streaked toward Sengoku.
Hiss, hiss, hiss!
Sengoku shot out a hand and caught Roy's blade. His other fist tightened, a smug smile spreading across his face as he punched at Roy.
Victory is mine!
But the moment he thought that, the momentum flipped.
The advantage was tipping back to Roy.
Roy only struggled a little, then smiled to himself. He clenched his free hand and punched back, meeting Sengoku head on.
Boom!
A huge golden fist collided with a small, youthful one. Both of them felt a sharp jolt of pain.
Only then did Sengoku realize how vicious the "tiny" power Roy had talked about really was.
Roy also felt just how much Sengoku's strength had jumped after eating the fruit.
Roy pulled his fist back and grabbed his sword with both hands, while Sengoku kept hold of the blade and refused to let go. In Buddha form, Sengoku's strength was overwhelming. Roy could not yank his sword free at all.
But that was not a problem.
Using Sengoku's arm as a pivot, Roy twisted his whole body forward and kicked at his chin.
"Hmph!" Sengoku roared and swung with his free hand, smashing into Roy's foot. Pain shot through his fist immediately.
Bang, bang, bang!
Roy's legs blurred, unleashing a rapid storm of kicks. Sengoku glared, still gripping the sword with one hand while hammering back again and again with the other.
Under the trees in the distance, Toki, Tsuru, and Linlin watched the duel.
"Aren't you worried? If that guy wins, it'll be bad for Roy," Tsuru said, sitting beside Toki.
"I believe he can beat him. Roy is always the most reliable person," Toki replied softly, chin resting on her hand as she gazed at him with gentle confidence.
"Everyone says Linlin is a born queen, but I think they're wrong. Brother is the real born queen," Linlin said with complete seriousness. Inside, though, she was already imagining how she would crush that ugly golden bump head if Roy lost.
Even after Roy's reforms and Tsuru's cleansing, Linlin would always stand on Roy's side. Anyone who threatened her brother was an enemy.
Besides, some of what Roy taught her felt absolutely right.
The winner takes all.
History belongs to the victors. As long as she became strong enough to destroy every enemy one by one, she did not care what anyone said. If only their kingdom survived while every foe fell, then she and her brother would be justice itself.
Linlin blinked, and in that instant the fight shifted.
Roy's legs snapped into motion. Before she could even follow it, Roy kicked Sengoku's free hand away, released the sword hilt, and drove a brutal kick into Sengoku's chin.
"Ah!"
Sengoku groaned. His jaw cracked on the spot, blood spraying as he roared. He flung Roy's sword aside with one hand and struck at Roy with both hands at once.
Roy moved like lightning and slammed a heavy punch into Sengoku's face.
Boom!
The huge golden Buddha toppled in the next moment, crashing down in a cloud of dust.
"You lost. Here's the deal, I want eighty million Berries from you!" Roy said, standing over him.
"I lost, there's nothing I can do about it… wait, what!?"
Sengoku sat up, clutching his head, ready to accept defeat, then felt something deeply wrong. He stared at Roy in horror.
That demand…
"That's a bit much…" Sengoku's body kept shrinking as the golden light faded. His face darkened.
Sengoku had loved calligraphy since he was little. Unlike Garp, Tsuru, or Zephyr, his family was not struggling. He had a home, and they were fairly well off.
But no matter how well off they were, they could not hand Roy eighty million Berries.
And a Marine salary was even more hopeless.
"Can we change the request?" Sengoku coughed, suddenly looking nervous.
"No. I can't think of anything else." Roy shook his head.
"Think harder. Life has plenty of interesting options, right?" Sengoku forced a smile.
It was a disaster. Even if he sold everything he owned, he still could not scrape together that much.
"For example, one hundred million Berries?" Roy suggested.
Sengoku's face went even darker.
"Two hundred million Berries?"
Sengoku wanted to fight again.
"Maybe three hundred million Berries?"
"Stop! Fifty million Berries!" Sengoku shouted, giving up completely.
"Fine. Then we'll calculate interest at twenty percent a year. If you delay a year, you'll owe me…" Roy laughed.
Sengoku's face turned pale.
So if Roy deliberately waited over fifty years before stepping onto the sea, how much would Fleet Admiral Sengoku owe him by then?
Sengoku's future was truly tragic.
