Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Rebirth !

2004. This was not an ordinary year—because someone ended up traveling through time. As for the reason... ahem... let's get to that later.

First, a quick introduction. My name's Orion Cross, a graduate of "Staying-at-Home University" with a major in... being a shut-in.

Before everything that happened, happened. I was watching One Piece. That show drags on forever, seriously—an 18-minute episode stretched to over 22 minutes. Only about 14 minutes were actually watchable. Furious, I, Orion Cross, lost it—and then before I knew it BOOM! A deafening lightning strike hit me, and I lost consciousness.

After that night, my body had vanished, newspapers everywhere reported the incident, warning teenagers: not to stay obsessed with anime or stay at home, especially on rainy days—otherwise, like someone who we shall not name, you could get hit by a lightning bolt from the sky and... poof. You'll be gone.

I, Orion Cross, instantly became a sort of myth for children everywhere: "Be warned, kids, if you stay home and watch anime, beware the lightning !" I was famous—well, in a fleeting, slightly morbid way.

Of course, I had no idea any of this was happening.

I didn't know how long I was out—maybe it was a day, a year. But eventually, I regained consciousness.

"What... happened? Where am I? I'm not dead... right?" I murmured, staring into pitch-black darkness.

"Ugh..."

In the next moment, I sat up, eyes wide open.

"What the hell? I just flipped someone off—how did I get struck by lightning?" I thought, my brain racing. "Wait... where am I? Am I... dead?" While my thoughts scrambled, I started examining my surroundings.

"Could it be... I've traveled through time? Joining the likes of great time travelers, like Doctor Who?" I touched my face, muttering to myself. Luckily, my body was still mine, which gave me some small comfort.

Being a hardcore shut-in, my adaptability was... well, not ordinary. I quickly adjusted and began exploring.

I realized I was on a small island, full of trees and hills—but tragically, I seemed to be the only living thing there.

After hours of searching, I gave up and returned to my original spot, sad and frustrated.

"Am I going to be the most tragic time traveler in history? Just arrived, and... i'll die alone and forgotten already? ...Goddamnit then send me back!!!!" I rubbed my growling stomach, gloomily pondering the future.

"Hmm? What's this?" My hand had brushed something buried in the dirt—a strange fruit-shaped object. Curiously, I pulled it out.

It was gray, mango-shaped, and honestly... I wasn't sure what it was.

"Whatever. I've already died once, so what's the worst that can happen?" I muttered. I didn't know if it was poisonous, but I didn't care. Might as well go for it.

Chomp. Chomp...

I devoured it in no time.

"Ugh... disgusting," I groaned, collapsing to the ground, vomiting.

But then—my body stiffened.

"The Rine Rine no Mi... shouldn't exist in this world... but it's emerged alongside you Orion Cross?"

I froze as mysterious information flashed in my mind. My excitement was short-lived.

"It doesn't belong to this world; the cycle of life forbids it. Misfortune will follow you, the world will stand against you!!"

Great. Just great. One moment I'm feeling awesome, the next... cursed, hated by the world. Misfortune clings to me like some unlucky protagonist. This is worse than being a pirate—at least pirates only have to deal with the navy. Me? I'm doomed.

Tears streaming, I sulked for a while, then reluctantly accepted my fate. At least I wasn't dead. The information suggested that as long as I didn't use the Rine Rine no Mi's power recklessly, then the forces out to get me would have a harder time finding me, and misfortune wouldn't strike immediately. A tiny silver lining.

Soon, I discovered the fruit's incredible powers. No wonder the heavens rejected it—this thing was ridiculous:

Devour: Absorb any energy and use it as your own. Completely broken.

Control: Manipulate special forces like repulsion and gravity—basically god-tier.

Reincarnation Power: Boost physical abilities with no upper limit.

Six Paths of Reincarnation: Trap enemies in the Six Realms. Basically kills gods and glorious fighting Buddha-level beings.

Reincarnation Birth: Revive the dead. I mean... seriously.

I didn't know if there were more abilities yet, but discovering even these five blew my mind.

...Except there was a catch. I couldn't use any of them yet. It's like staring at a gold pile behind a glass door with no key—utterly frustrating.

The next morning, the sun lazily rose in the east. After a night of familiarization, I could finally tap into some of my Rine Rine no Mi power. I was ready to leave this godforsaken island.

"Let's go!" I launched myself into the sky using a little of my gravity control, ignoring the misfortune. Staying put was a death sentence.

But not long after, a giant bird came hurtling from the distance—straight into me.

"No way... really?" The sky betrayed me as I was knocked off course.

Bam!

And to make matters worse, a naval ship was approaching. I collided with it.

"Damn it, where did this brat come from?!" yelled a sailor, pointing a musket at me. I had been reverted to a ten-year-old kid thanks to the fruit, or I wouldn't have been knocked around like that.

"Looks like he got blown here by a whirlwind," another sailor said smugly.

"Well, lucky us. Navy's short-handed anyway. This kid will do," grumbled the musket-wielding man, deciding my fate.

Of course, I had no idea. Starving, exhausted from the flight, and repeatedly slapped around, I passed out—luckily not raising suspicion. Otherwise, I might've been shot on the spot.
