Chapter 4 - Yearly Check-in

Tyler didn't stick there for long. He went back to his mansion, where he met three people.

These three people wore a white t-shirt with blue pants.

"Greetings, Lord!"

Three of them saluted at the same time and their voice were quite high.

Tyler nodded his head and went to his chair. He stared at them and asked.

"What's wrong?"

The man in the middle stepped forward and explained.

"Lord, we have been finding more and more missing cases of women. This has been the ninth one."

"We have been trying to find them, but to no avail. As if their existence has vanished from the city."

Hearing that, Tyler raised his eyebrows and asked.

"Did you find any suspects?"

The man shook his head and said.

"No, sir! There hasn't been any suspect. This has been happening for almost half a year now."

"We originally thought those women left the city for some reason and got possessed by the spirit, unable to return."

"But as it started happening more every month, we advised our people not to leave the city at any cost."

"They are the ones who have survived the Outbreak. They will not leave the city on their own."

His expression turned grim as he continued.

"We believe this is a case of kidnapping."

For a moment, they felt a horrible pressure on them. It was so strong that the men on the sides fell on their knees.

Thud! Thud!

The sound woke Tyler up from his rage. The red light in his eyes disappeared as he took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry. I lost my composure. Woman! Kidnapping! This can only mean one thing."

'Is this the horror of our lord?'

The man gulped heavily as his hands couldn't stop shaking, but he managed to stand on his feet.

'If he attacks me, do I even stand a chance?'

He shook his head and denied such thoughts.

'Why would Lord attack his people? I am just worrying too much.'

On the other hand, Tyler stood up and walked towards the window.

"You know, Khalim! There are two kinds of people I hate. One whose actions lead to the casualties of the weak."

"Second is slavery."

He clenched his fist, but this time, Tyler actively suppressed his emotions.

"Sometimes, even I find myself unable to hold my anger. Just like right now. Sometimes I am afraid I will turn into a person I hate."

"But thanks to my belief, I have managed not to become one. While I can influence the former, I can do nothing about the latter."

"Nothing except wiping them out from the face of the earth."

Tyler growled before turning back.

"Khalim, I will give you a week. You have ten policemen. Since the kidnapper has been working, he will definitely be here in the city."

"Do whatever it takes to find his identity. Find the suspects, check their professions, income, and connections."

"If you don't do it within a week, I will send hunters to find him."

Khalim felt his heartbeat rise. He hurriedly nodded his head. But he remembered something and asked.

"Lord, what about the Chief? He has been avoiding work for quite a while."

"He is busy with something. Don't disturb him!" Tyler shook his hand and spoke.

"Yes, Lord!"

Khalim nodded and left. The other two also followed after him with shaking legs.

Compared to hunters, their situation was worse. Even though he only used his Aura for less than a second.

That's why Hunter's status in society was quite contradictory.

From the perspective of the Nobles, they were just hired workers. If they didn't do their job properly, they should be punished.

From the perspective of a hunter, nobles were just piggy banks. Although not as important as hunting resources, gold coins were necessary for their families.

Sometimes nobles would even treat hunters as servants. Lower-ranking hunters wouldn't try to harm these nobles.

Because this could lead to assassinations from higher-ranking hunters.

But nobles wouldn't even dare to contradict higher-ranking hunters. Because other hunters wouldn't take the assassination job for them.

Tyler knew this. That's why he proposed the idea of turning every human into a hunter.

Only this way could they protect humanity from the growing threats of Spirit and Monsters.

Just like how humans were growing, the monsters and spirits were also getting stronger.

Each passing day would make them stronger.

——————————

Boom!

Just as he was busy thinking, he heard a loud noise coming from Rose's room. At this moment, a powerful pressure rushed out of the room.

Tyler didn't release his Aura; instead ran out of the mansion.

Seeing that Khalim and the other two had left the mansion, he sighed with relief.

Because this was her first awakening of Aura, Tyler didn't dare to use his Aura to suppress hers.

Otherwise, it could cause some detrimental effect on her mental energy.

Aura was the product of physical energy and mental energy produced by a hunter.

Aura was the energy that gave weight and power to the skills of a hunter. It was also the energy that would improve the strength of a hunter immensely.

But to produce Aura, one must possess enough strength in both body and mind.

Normally, Rank One Hunters couldn't achieve such a state. Thus, they weren't able to awaken this energy.

'Now that Rose has reached Second Rank, she has registered her six skills to her ability crystal.'

'Come to think of it, the method of registering skills to the ability crystal is quite similar to the rune.'

'No wonder it took humanity only a few decades to create the rune system and introduce Formations to the world.'

'Monsters are born to absorb the natural energy. Souls die to absorb the natural energy and turn into a spirit.'

'But we have been ignoring Spirit Trees. They can produce Natural Fruit, so why can't they produce consciousness?'

'Even souls that have died will have ambition and greed. How can a conscious tree not have one?'

'If it does, why doesn't it produce those fruits? Is it a natural phenomenon that it can't stop? Or, is there some deeper reason?'

These questions spontaneously appeared in his mind, almost restarting his brain.

He was so deep in thought that he didn't even realize the passing time.

As the clock hit twelve, a notification emerged in front of him.

[Ding! Yearly Check-in has been activated.]

[You received Ten Natural Fruits]

When he saw this notification, Tyler gulped heavily. His mind instantly forgot everything he was thinking about.

Now, he was just focused on the screen. Because the second reward was about to appear.

[You received Level Three Artificial Intelligence]

Gulp!

'An AI? Seriously? This….. can be considered a good reward. With AI, there are many things that I can do now that I wasn't able to do before.'

'But, why are AIs divided into levels? Well, I guess I can check that later. For now, I wonder what my third reward will be.'

If Daily Check-in gave him one reward, Monthly Check-in gave him two rewards.

That's why he was able to give Natural Fruits to others despite improving his rank at such a rapid pace.

Since this was a Yearly Check-in, he firmly believed that it would give him at least three rewards.

He already got the second one. Now, he could only wait for the third one.

After a moment of silence, a message appeared in front of him.

[You received a Character Summoning Scroll]

Except for the first reward, the other two were quite unexpected.

He never expected to receive an AI, not to mention a summoning scroll.

But after thinking for a moment, he realized it made sense.

Monthly and Yearly rewards were rare.

But all check-ins were random.

That meant his rewards could be anything. If those rewards weren't rare, he could've received an ordinary item in a large quantity.

Just when he thought of checking these rewards, he received another message from the system.

[First Yearly Check-in has been activated!]

[The system has received new updates]

[Downloading new updates]

[1%....]

Looking at the screen, Tyler was dumbfounded.

This was unexpected, truly unexpected.

He thought that his Check-in System was full. There was no sign of upgrades or anything.

But now, out of nowhere, it suddenly showed him new updates. This truly confused him.

Confusion lasted a few seconds before being replaced by joy.

Sheer joy of having his system upgraded!

It almost overwhelmed his desire to check those rewards.

Then, he realized something.

The rewards were always stored inside the inventory. Right now, his system was downloading new data.

If it had started upgrading, he wouldn't even get a chance to retrieve his rewards.

He hurriedly thought.

'Open Inventory!'

Just as he expected, the system still reacted to his words, and a new panel appeared.

This was a huge box with multiple small boxes. Some of them were filled with gold coins, while others had books and pencils.

But a few boxes looked different, thanks to the items inside them.

Two boxes were golden!
