Chapter 37 - On the way to Wrath

Max teleported directly into IMP headquarters, the sound of engines, arguing, and shuffling bags greeting him instantly.

Everyone was already packed.

Suitcases stacked by the door. Weapon cases leaning against the wall. Coolers, food bags, and a suspiciously vibrating crate Blitz claimed was "totally not illegal."

Loona stood near the van, phone in hand, tail flicking lazily.

"Finally!" Blitz barked the moment he spotted Max. "About damn time you dragged your ass here. Help load the bags—and you're riding in the back."

Max rolled his eyes.

"Of course I am."

He ignored Blitz entirely and walked straight toward Loona.

She didn't look up.

"Loona," Max said gently. "You mad I couldn't get you breakfast in bed like the others?"

Her tail gave a tiny, involuntary wag.

"No," she muttered. "Not mad about that at all."

"Hm," Max replied, unconvinced.

He sank into his shadow—and a second later popped back up beside her holding a full plate piled high with crispy bacon, sausages, fried eggs, and hash browns, steam still rising.

Loona's phone vanished instantly as she snatched the plate and started eating like she'd been waiting all morning.

Max smiled.

"Don't choke," he said calmly, summoning a large cup of juice and placing it in her free hand.

She drank between bites without saying a word.

Moxxie stared.

"That… that power must be incredibly useful for traveling. Think you could do that with the bags?"

Max lifted several suitcases effortlessly with his single arm.

"Sorry," he said. "Hard to keep things separate in my shadow space. I already struggle keeping cooked food away from raw stuff."

"JUST HURRY UP," Blitz yelled from the driver's seat.

Max loaded the bags, ignoring Blitz's glare.

Blitz reached out to grab a strip of bacon off Loona's plate—

and immediately got shoved away by her elbow.

"Touch my food and I break your fingers."

Everyone piled into the van.

Max was shoved unceremoniously into the back trunk area, wedged between luggage and a box labeled DO NOT OPEN.

"This is a hate crime," Max muttered.

The van roared to life and pulled out.

---

Wrath wasn't close.

Which meant time to kill.

"Soooo," Millie said cheerfully, turning around in her seat. "Any stories, Max?"

Max smirked.

"Let's see… want my first week in Hell? How I accidentally ran into Loona before we were together? Or the time Loona ran out of heat-suppression pills when I visited?"

"YOU SON OF A—!" Loona yelped.

The van swerved violently.

"BLITZ," Moxxie shouted, gripping his seat. "Focus on the road!"

"Relax," Max chuckled. "Nothing happened. I got her the pills before it became extreme."

Loona twisted around and smacked him.

Max laughed, dodging as best he could while strapped in.

He told stories—carefully avoiding anything that might make Blitz deliberately crash the van out of spite.

Eventually, Moxxie spoke up.

"Hey, um… have you ever died?" he asked. "I mean—Sinners can't permanently die in Hell, right? Ever gotten close?"

Max leaned back.

"Only a couple times. Mostly trying to stop people from hitting on Loona or Charlie. Got shot a few times—missed vitals by inches. Hurt like hell though."

Millie blinked.

"…You did that on purpose?"

"Worked," Max shrugged. "Got their attention on me instead."

---

They reached the Wrath checkpoint, demon guards already approaching.

One guard leaned in, eyeing Max.

"Ahh! Tryin' to smuggle a sinner, aye?"

"Yeah," Blitz said loudly. "Can you get rid of him for us?"

Max sighed but held up a fancy sealed envelope.

"He's joking. I have written approval from Lord Satan himself to attend the Harvest Festival."

The guards inspected the letter, muttered among themselves, then handed it back and waved them through.

As the gates opened, Max finally asked what had been eating at him.

"Blitz… why do you hate me so much?"

Blitz stared forward, jaw tight.

"It's not that simple. You took my Loony away."

Loona's face shifted through confusion, frustration, and something softer.

"I never took her away," Max said quietly. "I don't plan on keeping her from you. She'll spend most holidays with you. All my girls spend holidays with their families."

Blitz finally looked at him.

"Why?" he asked. "Aren't they your family now?"

The van went silent.

Max stared out the window at the changing landscape.

"Of course they are," he said. "But without you, Blitz… Loona would've been put down. And that's a fucked-up system."

Loona froze.

"I never would've met her. Never fallen in love. Nothing," Max continued. "The least I can do is make sure families stay together."

No one spoke after that.

The van drove on in silence until the ranch gates came into view.

Millie smiled softly.

"Welcome to my folks' place."

The Harvest Festival awaited.

[Author Note: So, Emily will join later (slightly more mature looks wise at least but kept innocent). If you have any suggestions or Ocs you might want to add to the harem feel free to comment. However ill add at most 2 more. Anyways enjoy]
