I took in the sight of everyone else: Olivia in an orange and white gown, Mother and Father matching in gray outfits.
Cardin had been standing behind Father, and I belatedly saw him, clad in gray like the two heads of our family. His throat bobbed at the sight of me, and a faint hint of red colored his cheeks.
Looking at him longer would give him the wrong idea, so I settled my gaze on Paisley, whose appearance tonight was aimed to attract everyone's attention.
Especially that of Nathan's.
Father's voice cut me off from my appraisal of Paisley's pink frilly dress.
"I hope that lowlife lover of yours won't be your partner for tonight." As always, there was dislike in his tone.
"How could he arrive in the capital so fast? As a commoner, I know he can't afford a carriage. Riding on horseback alone is quite dangerous," Olivia mused with obvious dissatisfaction.
