I had an unusual dream.
Well, not unusual. It was a memory from my past life.
"Samantha! You failure!"
"F-Father, please… tell Mother I didn't mean it."
A sharp crack echoed through the air as a slap landed across my cheek.
"I don't want to hear anything from you! I hate you! You're not acting like the daughter of Marcus Harvey!"
I jolted awake, my breath ragged, my body drenched in cold sweat. My heart pounded violently against my ribs, as if trying to claw its way out. It had been a long time since I last recalled anything from my past life. Not because the memories were blurry, but because I had buried them deep where they couldn't reach me.
Slowly, my fingers brushed against my right cheek. The sting was long gone, yet a dull ache throbbed in my chest, heavy and suffocating. Before I realized it, a single tear slid down my face.
'What's this? Ha! This won't do at all.'
