"What? Where are the knights guarding the cages?"
Nathan's expression immediately darkened.
The words had barely left his mouth when he was already moving.
While asking the question, Nathan ran to the back of the inn, towards their stable, where his horse was.
His boots struck the ground with hurried steps as several nearby knights instinctively moved aside to clear a path for him. The urgency in his voice alone was enough to tell them that something had gone wrong.
The assistant captain followed him, explaining the situation while he too also saddled his horse.
"Most of the knights are there, but they seem to be overwhelmed by the people."
Nathan's eyes narrowed.
Overwhelmed?
That was not a word he expected to hear when describing imperial knights.
The elite division under his command was composed of some of the strongest fighters in the Empire. Ordinary people shouldn't have been capable of overwhelming them.
