As the morning sun ascended through the clouds of heaven. Another day arrived for the most overworked angels, the guardian angels. They're the ones running around Earth all day answering to prayers of the humans they're assigned to. They are the most dedicated as they hope to get a raise and reach the highest ranks among angels. The lowest rank is the guardian angels, obviously, while the highest is to serve right next to the creator which is the Seraphim. Among all these devoted, excited angels there's one that dreads the arrival of the weekdays. He also despises how guardian angels can be sent for jobs through the use of a website in the human world. They're service is not free either by the way. Heaven had become a business.
It was the crack of dawn, Monday arrived and it was time for work.
"Get up." a calm yet slightly irritated voice came through.
A groan emitted from a bed made out of clouds.
"I was doing that." a deep voice complained in a quiet manner.
A black haired man sat up from the comfy bed. He was half asleep with a purple robe-like pajama. The room still looked dark almost like it was absorbed by the shadows. Only one dim light was visible, it was by the entrance door. This skinny man stood up and grabbed a small comb. It wasn't for his hair but rather for his wings behind his ears. For angels wings are like their teeth, they're extremely important to them.
After combing his feathers to defluff them this angel began looking around his small heavenly apartment for something. Clothes were being thrown to the ground as he was getting desperate to find his most priced possession.
"Not again." he moaned.
This wasn't the first time this happened.
"Where could it be?" he said as he was rummaging through a drawing.
In a corner on the other side of the room a piece of clothing began moving. It slowly began to levitate as if something was underneath it.
"Hm?" said the angel as he noticed something was behind him.
"THERE YOU ARE!" he exclaimed angrily.
The piece of clothing fell and a necklace with wooden beads and a rather giant gold cross was revealed. It slowly began to float towards its owner. The angel put the necklace on and went toward the door where his roommate and work buddy was waiting.
"Okay I'm ready Samuel, let's go." said the angel as he got to the door.
His roommate, Samuel, turned to see him and was flabbergasted. His four eyes went wide as he looked up and down at the mess of an angel. His hair was messy and he didn't even change into appropriate work attire. The only thing he'd done to get ready was brushing his wings. Samuel on the other hand had brushed his long, luscious orange hair and wore a more traditional look for angels rather than the newer more modern outfits most angels wear nowadays.
"Haku, you're joking right?" Samuel said rhetorically.
As Samuel began to lecture Haku, he began to tune him out.
"Blah blah blah…you can't even wear proper work attire… blah blah blah… what were you thinking?!"
The same old melody that had happened every day for the past millennia.
When will he stop this pointless nagging? Haku thought as he dozed off.
That made him prone to four arms grabbing him by the arm and violently pulling him towards Samuel.
Samuel gave him new clothes that resembled a cassock, combed his short, spiky hair, and even recombed his small wings.
"Phew, now we're ready." Samuel sighed in relief.
It's amazing what the coordination of four eyes and four arms can do in so little time. A now handsome looking angel was dragged out of his apartment by his roommate for the same monotony of working for the Creator.
All the guardian angels are located near the bottom of the heavenly realm. This is because it makes it easier to travel to the human world since the portal to Earth can only be found at the bottom of the realm. This ring of heaven is quite depressing. It's empty the majority of the time, it's almost like a ghost town. Not even the residents can appreciate the angelical architecture of their home. All the buildings are huge, and they have a beautiful light pink tint. Most of the housing for these divine entities are small apartments where two or more angels were crammed into out of necessity.
Heaven implemented a currency system in which guardian angels get paid almost nothing compared to the other ranks. Heaven's currency can be described as small, star shaped, golden coins that are called "deeds". Deeds can be used to buy goods but most angels trade deeds to gain status points. With status points angels can leave the bottom of the realm and ascend to better jobs. An average guardian angel needs hundreds of thousands of status points to ascend to an archangel. Aside from status points a direct raise from the Creator works just fine as well. That's why most of the lower ranks try to over achieve to catch the eye of their deity.
While walking to the entry way to the human world, Samuel seemed more cheery than usual.
"What's up with you?" Haku questioned.
"Well…it's nothing really." Samuel responded with a cheeky grin.
He definitely had something he was hiding but Haku couldn't care less about it, he was more worried about the situation ahead. He dreaded interacting with humans. He knew they were the children of God but when was the last time the Creator had to deal with them since the Old Testament.
The center of the guardian angel ring is where the gateway to Earth is. It's usually surrounded by guards, but oddly enough there were none today.
Something must of happened up above, Samuel thought while looking up at the endless sky. He so wished to be up there, celebrating and enjoying his life with the others. Someday he will get out of here. He hopes Haku will too.
Samuel usually walks yanking Haku by the shirt but today he seemed less bitchy about going to work. He was oddly quiet too. Maybe it had to do with the fact another angel combed his wings.
Using the gateway is always a challenge. It's either a giant line to use it or the deeds machine to use it isn't working so it gets overcrowded. Today it was empty because the angels left home a couple hours late.
It didn't matter though, one tardy in a millennium is nothing.
Samuel went to the deeds machine and clicked its cute, angel shaped buttons.
He put his hand out towards Haku.
Haku was perplexed by this, he looked at Samuel's face, then his hand, and back at Samuel.
"What?" he said.
"What do you mean, what?" Samuel stared him down."It's your turn to pay, I've been paying for the last few weeks."
"Oh, yea…" Haku chuckled.
He grabbed his deeds and threw them in the coin slot.
There goes all I've had.
They both passed through the turnstile and stepped in the gateway circle. The portal began to open and as Samuel jumped in Haku turned and planned on walking away. Unfortunately for him, his roommate knew him too well and snatched him by the neck of the his collar, and so they went to work.
