Chapter 10 - Squash a Bug

Silva placed his hand on the tower and a holographic screen appeared. 'Offer a sacrifice to the safe zone in order to access it.' Silva pulled one of the Gu corpses from his inventory and pressed it against the tower. The corpse was sucked into the tower and it issued a slight glow. The dark color brightened for a moment then went back to normal. A familiar holographic screen appeared before Silva.

This was Silva's current status. The display wasn't different from the game. The only thing that irked him was the low BP. 'I was already at 500 million BP in the game. At that point I could fight a continental threat on my own. The only advantage is that there's no login rewards. I need to make sure of a few things before I proceed with anything.'

Silva let go of the tower and turned to face the two players behind him. The other guy was still kneeling and Falcon had moved closer. "Hey you." Silva called the kneeling guy. "There's three things I need to know. Your username, how long you played the game and how much BP you had by the time it collapsed."

"My username was in_ur_face and I've only played the game for a little over a month. I think I had 700 k BP."

"So you're a noob. That's good. You can follow me since your ability seemed useful when I saw it. You can use the tower." With that, Silva moved aside and let the man use the tower. He walked towards Falcon and placed his hand on his shoulder. Falcon was about to talk when he noticed the man get beheaded by the donut shaped blade.

"WHY DID YOU KILL HIM!!!? He had surrendered. You didn't have to do that." Falcon yelled at Silva as he grabbed him by the scruff of his hoodie.

"You're a nice guy Falcon but you're neither smart nor strong enough to afford to be that nice. The reason why I killed him is because he lied. He said he started playing the game a month ago yet he only had 700k BP. That's not possible."

"What do you mean that's not possible. He's been playing for a month, it makes sense that he has little BP. Plus, even if he lied, you shouldn't kill people over things like that."

"Falcon, how long have you been playing the game and how much BP did you have?"

"You gonna kill me if I lie?"

"No, I won't. Just answer the question."

"I think I played for seven months and I had like 370 million BP."

"When you first started the game, there were rewards given to help you catch up to the rest. The rewards were a weapon draw, a skill selection and 3 million BP. At least that's what I got. If he had truly started playing a month ago then he would have at least 10 million BP."

"So you decided to kill another human just because he lied about the amount of BP he had? "

"No, I killed him because he was about to use his ability to kill us when I let him touch the tower."

"Wait, what do you mean he was about to attack us?"

"When he used his ability yesterday I observed him with my domain allowing me to know the signs of his ability activating. When I approached you, I sensed his ability trigger so I struck first."

"Then why didn't you say that first?"

"Because I want you to understand that with the way the world is right now, people will kill without reason. Don't be naive. Also, don't be too trusting, you let your guard down and you'll pay for it with your life." Silva started to walk back to the tower after saying that. The corpses had all disappeared into Silva's inventory when he was talking to Falcon.

When Silva reached the tower, hundreds of corpses were sacrificed to it. The carcasses of the clean crabs along with everything Silva had killed on his way here were absorbed by the tower. The absorption continued till a message appeared.

"Sufficient sacrifice offered. You can now own or select an owner for this tower."

Silva didn't hesitate to become the tower's owner. He ignored most of the messages congratulating him for the achievement and only focused on one. 'You can now move the tower to a location of your choosing once per year.' This was what Silva was waiting for. He activated the effect and the tower glowed white then turned into a tiny wooden version that fit perfectly in his hand.

"Hey Falcon, you said you'd follow my orders if I let you tag along. Is the offer still on the table?" Silva asked as he walked towards him. Falcon hesitated for a while before agreeing. "Good. Now turn into your bird form and fly both of us back to the city. The Gu nearby have noticed that the tower is gone and they'll hunt us down."

The two players were soon high in the sky. Silva noticed a few things, Falcon's bird form had grown larger and he could fly higher and faster than before. Right now, Silva was sitting on his back which he couldn't do previously because of Falcon's small size. The two stopped once every hour for Falcon to rest. By the time they reached the city, dusk was approaching.

The city itself was completely transformed. The previously broken buildings were being held together by thick strands of web. Most of the city had become a white hell scape. The maker of the citywide web was standing on the edge of the crab lake. One of its long rapier like legs was dipped in the lake water. It lifted leg up and shoved it into its mouth, devouring the clean crabs that were clinging to it.

Silva and Falcon watched the process repeat itself multiple times before the spider became full. The two players circled high in the sky as they waited for nightfall. "Falcon, on my signal you'll dive toward the spider and shoot a continuous laser at its face. I'm not expecting you to kill it, I just need you to distract it. I'll handle it and tell you to pull up."

"Dive now!" Silva yelled as he put the tiny wooden tower in his inventory. Falcon dove down as a powerful laser beam struck the unprepared spider. The laser struck the spider square on the head dealing absolutely no damage. The spider only twitched for a moment then completely ignored the laser. Falcon was stunned by how ineffective his attack was. His dive slowed drastically but Silva was there to push him.

"You need to dive faster. If you slow down the spider will attack us. Don't worry about hurting it, your laser was only meant to blind it. I'll take care of the rest." Silva said as he waited for the gigantic arachnid to enter his domain. The spider suddenly thrusted one of its rapier like legs at the diving duo. The attack was too fast for Silva to react to but Falcon dodged it easily. A wide, net shaped web was shot at them and Falcon couldn't evade it in time.

The two players were caught in the web and the giant spider was approaching them casually. Falcon was struggling to break free but his efforts only resulted in Silva getting webbing stuck on his face. Silva tried to tell Falcon to calm down but he ended up with a mouthful of webs.

'I don't have time for this.' Silva thought to himself as he sensed the spider enter his domain. The tiny wooden tower left his domain and fell on the spider's head. Silva willed for the safe zone to be established and the wooden tower instantly transformed into its original size. The pitch black tower crushed the spider beneath it's weight.

With the spider dead, Silva could finally store the web trapping them in his inventory. Falcon changed to his human form and looked at the crushed spider in front of him.

"That was awesome!!!" Falcon said with joy. "I did think that we were going to die for a second there but this makes it worth it. I can brag about killing a spider that's bigger than a house. Look at that! We did that! High five bro. Don't leave me hanging dude."

Silva returned the high five and then walked toward the tower. He stored away everything that blocked his path till he finally reached it. After reaching the tower, Silva immediately chose to sacrifice the spider to the tower. "I knew that this was the only way to do it but its quite a loss."

"What do you mean by a loss? We just took down a monster spider." Falcon said to Silva who kept sighing to himself.

"We didn't get any BP from killing the spider since kills done by the tower are used to strengthen it. Sigh, just forget it. We'll deal with it tomorrow. The safe zone will be active for about a month if we don't get attacked so it won't shut down tonight. Get some rest Falcon, we earned it."
