Chapter 88 - CHAPTER 88:ROAD TO STONEDRAGON

They didn't announce it like a quest.

They just left.

ART led first, because he was the one with the destination in his chest. NEO walked beside him, quiet and focused, not asking questions. KODA followed half a step behind, watching roads, watching shadows, already treating the journey like a system with variables.

Leaving Frostvale's beginner routes didn't feel like a simple walk.

The farther north they traveled, the less the world felt like a tutorial map.

The snow got denser.

The monsters got smarter.

The players got meaner.

And the guild tags started showing up more often.

They passed a road checkpoint where a group of ten players stood with matching crests, pretending it was "for safety."

ART didn't stop.

NEO didn't slow down.

KODA drew a small concealment rune on the side of a broken stone and they slid around the checkpoint without a fight.

None of them spoke until the banner line disappeared behind trees.

ART exhaled. "So this is what higher zones are like."

NEO's voice was calm. "It's what Phase Two made them like."

KODA nodded once. "Pressure creates structure."

ART glanced at him. "You're going to be annoying forever, aren't you?"

KODA didn't deny it.

By nightfall, they found a small roadside inn hub—one of the mid-route outposts connecting regions. Players came and went in small groups. Some looked tired, some looked hungry, some looked like predators.

ART opened the world map and stared at the distance.

Stone Dragon City felt impossibly far for Level 11 players.

Then he remembered something Nyx had said in the message tone.

North.

You'll hear the name soon.

So he stopped thinking like a beginner.

He started thinking like someone chasing a banner.

They rented a room—cheap, shared, barely warm.

And before sleeping, NEO did something that surprised ART.

She sat on the floor and cultivated.

Not as a joke.

As routine.

KODA followed immediately.

ART stared at them like they were insane.

Then he sighed and sat too.

Because if he wanted to meet Nyx, he couldn't show up weak.

Morning came with a system ping.

Daily Cultivation Bonus Applied.

Synth Control +1

ART blinked at the notice like the game had just rewarded him for being responsible.

NEO didn't react.

KODA looked mildly satisfied.

They left the outpost at sunrise.

And by midday, the road opened into a wider region path where the terrain shifted—less beginner snow, more jagged stone, and distant mountains that looked like dragon spines.

Stone Dragon territory.

ART's heart kicked.

Then the system notified them of what they'd just stepped into.

Entering Region: Stone Dragon Empire Borderlands

Recommended Level: 18+

NEO stared at the warning.

ART swallowed. "We're underleveled."

KODA said quietly, "Then we move carefully."

They didn't get far before they heard fighting ahead.

Not monsters.

Players.

A squad of guild-tagged fighters was surrounding two independents near a broken bridge.

"Pay the toll."

"We're not paying you."

"Then crawl back south."

ART's jaw tightened.

NEO's eyes narrowed.

KODA's chalk was already in his hand.

Then ART remembered Nyx's warning.

People hunt talent.

And the three of them standing together already looked like talent.

If they jumped in, they'd win the fight…

and paint targets on their backs.

NEO looked at ART. "We can't save everyone."

ART hated that she was right.

So they did the smarter thing.

KODA drew a small rune line on a stone and whispered, "Blind spot."

A faint shimmer distorted the air.

They slipped past the conflict like shadows and kept moving.

ART didn't feel proud.

But he felt alive.

Because now he understood:

The road north wasn't just distance.

It was politics.

And if Nyx was living in that world already…

then Aurora wasn't going to be a normal guild.

Not with Phase Two tightening everything.

By the time Stone Dragon City's outer walls finally appeared in the distance—massive stone, banners flying, traffic like a river—ART's throat tightened.

He sent one more message.

ART:

Nyx. I'm coming.

Her reply came quickly this time, like she'd been waiting.

Nyx:

Don't die on the road.

ART grinned.

NEO looked at him. "She cares."

ART didn't deny it.

KODA stared at the city walls. "That place is big."

ART's grin sharpened.

"Yeah," he said. "And it's where Aurora is."
