Chapter 69 - CH69:DAYS END

Chapter 69 — Day's End

The festival lights dimmed as the night drew to a close. Blade and Liora walked through quieter streets now, the silver lanterns reflecting off snow-dusted rooftops.

"So… same time tomorrow?" Liora asked, adjusting her scarf.

Blade hesitated. "…Yeah. I think I'd like that."

She smiled, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. "Good. Don't be late."

They reached a small square near the river, where performers were packing up. Blade noticed the way she looked—carefree, laughing at something the acrobat said—but he also noticed the small moments: the subtle way she glanced at him, the tilt of her head, the quiet warmth in her eyes.

He finally spoke, quieter than usual. "I… had a good time."

"I did too," she replied. A soft pause, then, "You're… different than I imagined."

Blade smirked faintly. "Is that good or bad?"

"Good," she said immediately. "Really good."

They parted near her hotel. Blade watched her disappear inside, the lanterns flickering above him, the cold air sharp on his cheeks.

He walked back to his apartment in Snowstar, feeling something he hadn't in years: hope. Not just survival, not just calculation—but joy. Something light and real.

A quick shower, a simple dinner, and he sat by his window, looking out at the city lights. Thoughts of the festival, of Liora, of the laughter they shared, replayed over and over.

Sleep eventually claimed him, but even in dreams, the warmth of her presence lingered.
