Chapter 173 - On the Seas - 1

The morning sun cast a bright, golden glow over the grassy main deck of the Thousand Sunny. The ocean breeze was cool and refreshing, carrying the scent of salt and the faint, sweet aroma of Nami's tangerine grove. The ship coasted peacefully over the gentle waves of the Grand Line, the crew enjoying a quiet start to the day.

The tranquility of the morning was suddenly punctuated by a sharp, echoing CRACK of displaced air.

Materializing near the main mast were two figures. Bartholomew Kuma stood tall, his massive frame clad in a simple, comfortable linen shirt, his signature Bible tucked under his arm. Clinging to his side was Jewelry Bonney, her pink hair slightly messy from the tropical wind of the vacation island they had just departed.

Ben, who had been sitting at the patio table drinking his morning coffee, stood up and walked over.

"Welcome back," Ben greeted them with a polite nod.

Kuma looked down at Bonney. The towering, usually stoic former Warlord knelt down on one knee, placing his massive, paw-padded hands gently on his daughter's shoulders.

"Listen to me carefully, Bonney," Kuma rumbled, his voice thick with parental anxiety. "We discussed the rules. No eating food off the floor, even if you think the five-second rule applies. Brush your teeth every night, especially after the Magician gives you candy. Do not punch any Marines unless they shoot at you first."

Bonney sniffled, wiping a stray tear from her cheek. She looked sad, but she nodded dutifully. "I know, Dad. I'll be good."

"And please," Kuma added, glancing toward the crew, "listen to the Navigator. She seems to be the only one with common sense on this vessel."

"Hey!" Usopp protested weakly from the background, though no one paid him any attention.

"And remember," Kuma pulled her into a tight, crushing hug, burying his face in her pink hair. "I will call you every single day using the Kimoyo Beads Ben provided. If you need anything, or if you are ever in danger, you press the emergency button. I will come to visit you twice a month. I swear it."

"Okay," Bonney hugged his massive neck back, her voice muffled against his shirt.

The rest of the Straw Hat crew had gathered on the deck, watching the scene unfold. A collective, warm smile spread across their faces. Seeing the terrifying 'Tyrant' acting like an overbearing, worried father was both heartwarming and deeply humanizing.

Kuma finally stood up, gently releasing his daughter. He turned to face the Straw Hat Pirates. He bowed his head deeply, a gesture of profound, genuine respect.

"Please," Kuma said, his voice earnest. "Look after her. She is my entire world."

Nami stepped forward, resting a hand on her hip with a confident, reassuring smile. "No worries, Kuma-san. We already have four kids on this ship. Adding another one doesn't matter at all. She'll be perfectly safe with us."

Kuma offered a rare, small smile. He looked at Bonney one last time. "Goodbye, Bonney. I love you."

"Bye, Dad," Bonney waved, trying to put on a brave face. "Love you too."

Ben stepped beside the massive revolutionary. He placed a hand on Kuma's broad shoulder. He focused his magic on the coordinates of Baltigo, the hidden base of the Revolutionary Army where Dragon was currently waiting for his top commander to return.

CRACK.

With a sudden burst of displaced air, Kuma and Ben vanished.

A heavy silence fell over the deck. Bonney stood there, staring at the empty space where her father had just been. Her lower lip trembled slightly as the reality of his departure set in. She crossed her arms, trying to look tough, but a single tear escaped down her cheek.

A few seconds later, Ben reappeared on the deck with another CRACK, having successfully dropped Kuma off with Dragon.

Ben looked at Bonney, sensing the quiet sadness radiating from the pink-haired pirate. He caught Sanji's eye across the deck and gave the cook a subtle, pointed look.

Sanji didn't need any further instruction. He gave Ben a sharp nod.

"Hey, Bonney-chan!" Sanji called out, his voice smooth and cheerful as he slid out of the kitchen holding a steaming, perfectly baked pizza on a silver tray. "I was experimenting in the kitchen this morning! I tried to make a completely new flavor profile just for you. A wood-fired Margherita with a garlic-butter stuffed crust, topped with spicy ground sea-sausage and caramelized onions. Care to be my official taste-tester?"

Bonney looked at the pizza. The rich, savory aroma hit her nose, entirely overriding her melancholy. Her stomach gave a loud, appreciative rumble.

She looked up at Sanji and gave a small, sad, but genuine smile. She nodded. "Yeah. I'd like that. Thanks, curly."

As Bonney followed Sanji into the dining table to eat, Luffy bounded over to Ben, bouncing on the balls of his feet.

"Hey, Ben!" Luffy grinned, adjusting his straw hat. "We're done waiting! Where are we going next? Is there a meat island?"

Ben pulled his wrist up, activating the holographic projector built into his Kimoyo Beads. A glowing blue 3D map of the Grand Line materialized in the air, showing their current trajectory.

"Our next destination on this route is an island known as the Momoiro Kingdom."

Luffy tilted his head. "Momoiro? Does it have good food?"

"It has... very unique residents," Ben replied, a faint, highly amused smirk touching his lips. He knew exactly what kind of island Momoiro Kingdom was. An entire island populated exclusively by cross-dressing Okama masters. A literal pink nightmare for a certain blonde cook.

Fortunately, Sanji was currently inside the kitchen, loudly explaining the optimal cheese-pull technique to Bonney. The heavy oak doors were shut, completely blocking the sound of Ben's announcement.

If Sanji had heard the words 'Momoiro Kingdom', he would have immediately sprinted to the helm, violently hijacked Sunny's controls, and sailed the ship directly into the nearest hurricane to avoid that specific island. But, completely oblivious to his impending doom, the cook continued to happily bake pizzas.

Meanwhile, near the railing, Usopp was sweating profusely. He nervously shuffled over to where Nami was sitting on a lounge chair.

"Hey, Nami," Usopp whispered, glancing around with slight paranoia. "Uh... earlier, when you were talking to Kuma... what exactly did you mean by 'four kids'?"

Nami didn't look up from the fashion magazine she was reading. She simply raised her hand and casually counted them off on her fingers.

"Merry, Sunny, Chopper, and Luffy," Nami listed flatly.

Usopp let out a massive, shuddering breath of profound relief. He leaned against the railing, wiping a waterfall of nervous sweat from his forehead. "Oh, thank God. I thought you were talking about me for a second. The great God Usopp is a mature, fearless warrior of the sea! I am a pillar of adulthood!"

Nami just rolled her eyes and turned the page of her magazine.

Ten minutes later, the entire crew had migrated into the massive, magically expanded dining hall. The smell of Sanji's new pizza recipe filled the room. Everyone grabbed a slice, sitting around the long oak table.

"Mmm! This is amazing, Sanji!" Bonney mumbled around a mouthful of gooey cheese, her sadness entirely cured by the culinary masterpiece.

"Super tasty, bro!" Franky agreed, downing a slice in one bite.

"Yohoho! The crust is so crunchy, it rattles my bones!" Brook laughed, wiping his jawbone with a napkin. "Even though I have no stomach to digest it!"

As the crew ate, Ben stood up from his chair. He tapped a button on a small remote in his pocket.

"Merry," Ben called out. "Pull the screen down, please."

"You got it, Papa!" Mini Merry chirped from her high chair.

With a soft mechanical whir, a massive, high-definition white projector screen descended from the ceiling at the far end of the dining hall. The lights in the room automatically dimmed.

"What's this?" Robin asked, tilting her head as she took a sip of her coffee.

"Since we have quite a few new faces on the ship," Ben explained, gesturing to Brook, Franky, and Bonney, who had joined their journey late, "I thought it would be a good idea to show everyone exactly what we did and what we went through to get here. Merry and I captured a few pics and videos of our journey."

"A video? About us?!" Luffy cheered, his eyes shining. "Awesome!"

"Oh, this should be incredibly embarrassing," Zoro grunted, taking a swig of ale.

"Hit the playback, Merry," Ben instructed. "And add some background music. Something fitting for a long journey."

"Loading the nostalgia playlist now!" Merry announced.

The projector clicked on. A crisp, upbeat, acoustic guitar riff began to play through the dining hall's surround sound system, immediately setting a warm, energetic, and emotional tone.

"Hope when you take that jump, you don't fear the fall..."

"Hope when the water rises, you built a wall..."

The screen flickered to life. The first video clip was chaotic and bright. It was Arlong Park. The footage showed the towering gates of the Fishman base being blown completely off their hinges.

"Hope when the crowd screams out, it's screaming your name..."

"Hope if everybody runs, you choose to stay..."

The screen rapidly cut between the intense, high-stakes fights.

There was Luffy, screaming in fury, grabbing Arlong by the face and pile-driving the massive Fish-Man directly through three floors of solid concrete.

There was Zoro, bleeding heavily but grinning like a demon, his swords crossing in a lethal blur as he effortlessly sliced through the six-armed Hatchan.

Next was Sanji, underwater, delivering a devastating, high-speed kick directly into Kuroobi's gills, sending the martial artist flying out of the pool.

Then Usopp, trembling in fear, before turning around, pulling back his slingshot, and delivering a perfectly placed, explosive hammer-blow to Chew's face.

Finally, it showed Ben, standing completely unbothered in the center of the courtyard. Dozens of Arlong's mob rushed him. With a lazy flick of his wand, a telekinetic force sent the entire mob flying backward into the stone walls simultaneously.

"Whoa!" Bonney gasped, lowering her pizza.

"Such youthful vigor!" Brook praised, clapping his bony hands. "The passion of a true warrior shines through the screen!"

"SUUUUPER cool!" Franky struck a pose at the table.

"Hope that you fall in love, and it hurts so bad..."

"The only way you can know is give it all you have..."

"And I hope that you don't suffer but take the pain..."

"Hope when the moment comes, you'll say..."

The heavy fighting faded out, replaced by the warm, flickering light of a massive bonfire.

It was the banquet in Cocoyashi Village. The music swelled into an upbeat, triumphant chorus.

"I, I did it all!"

"I, I did it all!"

The screen showed Luffy running around with a pair of chopsticks stuck up his nose and a basket on his head, doing his ridiculous party dance. Usopp was howling with laughter.

"I owned every second that this world could give..."

"I saw so many places, the things that I did..."

The video panned up to the night sky. Ben was standing on a rooftop, waving his Elder Wand. Massive, impossibly intricate, and colorful magical fireworks exploded in the sky, taking the shapes of roaring lions, soaring dragons, and blooming lotuses. The villagers' faces were illuminated by the glowing sparks, their expressions filled with absolute, pure awe.

In one of the shots, a beautiful woman with blue hair and a warm smile was clapping her hands, laughing at Luffy's antics.

"Look!" Nami pointed excitedly at the screen, a huge smile on her face. "That's Nojiko! She's my older sister! And that's Genzo, the mayor! They're the ones who raised me."

"She's very beautiful, Nami-swan!" Sanji swooned. "The genes in your family are truly divine!"

"Yeah, with every broken bone, I swear I lived..."

The music shifted, the beat driving forward as the video cut to a dark, stormy sky.

It was Loguetown. The rain was pouring down in sheets.

The camera angle zoomed in on the towering execution platform in the center of the town square. Luffy was trapped in the wooden stocks, completely immobilized. Standing directly above him, holding a massive, jagged sword executioner-style, was Buggy the Clown.

"I'M DEAD!" Luffy's voice echoed from the video, accompanied by his massive, carefree grin.

"You smiled while getting executed?!" Bonney asked, her jaw dropping in disbelief. "Are you insane?!"

Just as Buggy swung the sword down to decapitate the future Pirate King, a blinding, jagged bolt of natural lightning tore through the dark clouds. It struck the metal sword perfectly, blowing the entire wooden execution platform into a million burning splinters.

Through the smoke and falling debris, the video showed Ben materializing out of thin air. He grabbed Luffy's collar and Zoro's arm, and with a sharp CRACK of displacement magic, he teleported the entire core crew out of the heavily surrounded Marine plaza.

"Hope that you spend your days, but they all add up..."

"And when that sun goes down, hope you raise your cup..."

The video transitioned again. The stormy weather vanished, replaced by the sheer, towering red wall of the Red Line.

The ship sailed down the Reverse Mountain rapids, crashing into the Grand Line. And there, blocking the entire ocean, was the colossal, scarred face of a gigantic whale.

The video showed Crocus, the grumpy lighthouse keeper, sitting inside his lawn chair. It showed Luffy painting the massive, crude Straw Hat Jolly Roger directly onto the whale's forehead. Laboon roared, the sound echoing through the dining hall.

At the dining table, Brook stared at the screen. He saw the whale. He saw the scars.

"Laboon..." Brook whispered.

He didn't have tear ducts. He had no eyes. But the skeletal musician buried his face in his bony hands, his shoulders shaking with profound, silent sobs.

"He grew so big," Brook wept openly. "Tears are flowing from my eyes! Even though I have no eyes! Yohohoho... sniff."

"Oh, I wish that I could witness all your joy..."

"And all your pain..."

"But until my moment comes, I'll say..."

The screen cut to the dark, cactus-shaped islands of Whiskey Peak.

It showed the massive banquet. The crew eating and drinking until they passed out. And then, it showed the ambush.

Zoro was a blur of motion in the moonlight. The video captured him running across the rooftops, effortlessly slicing through the Baroque Works bounty hunters. He took down a hundred armed assassins with terrifying, casual precision.

"Gebababa!" Dory laughed, clinking his mug with Brogy. "The swordsman possesses excellent stamina! To fight a hundred men alone at that time is a true warrior's feat!"

Then, the video cut to Zoro, who was standing in an alleyway. Facing him was Miss Wednesday—Vivi. She was wearing a bizarre, swirling, hypnotic dress.

In the video, Vivi began to sway back and forth, performing her "Peacock Slasher: Hypnosis Dance." She spun her weapons, shaking her hips in a slow, mesmerizing, and utterly ridiculous attempt to put the swordsman to sleep.

Zoro, in the video, just stared at her with a blank, unimpressed dead-fish expression.

In the dining room, absolute chaos erupted.

"BWAHAHAHAHA!" The crew roared with laughter, slapping the table.

"THE PEACOCK HYPNOSIS!" Usopp howled, pointing at the screen.

Vivi turned the color of a ripe tomato. Her entire face burned with unadulterated embarrassment.

"BEN!" Vivi shrieked, her royal dignity completely shattered. She spun around and began aggressively hitting Ben repeatedly on the shoulder with her fists. "WHERE DID YOU GET THAT FOOTAGE?! DELETE IT! DELETE IT RIGHT NOW!"

"The cameras are always rolling, Princess," Ben laughed innocently, easily absorbing her flurry of punches with a single hand.

Meanwhile, Luffy, who was sitting at the head of the table, was staring intently at the screen.

As the video-Vivi continued her swirling, hypnotic dance, Luffy's eyes began to glaze over. He swayed slightly in his chair. His eyelids drooped.

"I'm... getting... sleepy..." Luffy mumbled, his head lolling to the side, literally being hypnotized by a video recording from months ago.

WHACK!

Usopp slammed his hand onto the top of Luffy's head. "DON'T GET HYPNOTIZED BY A SCREEN, YOU MORON!"

"I, I did it all!"

"I, I did it all!"

The video cut again. The ship was sailing away from Whiskey Peak.

Sitting casually on the railing of the ship, bathed in the moonlight, was a mysterious, dark-haired woman in a cowboy hat. Miss All Sunday. Nico Robin.

She looked edgy. She looked incredibly dangerous. She delivered her ominous warning to the crew with a cool, sophisticated smile.

And then, right in the middle of her cool villain monologue, a flurry of glowing, magical ropes shot out from the floorboards.

Zip! Zap!

Before Robin could even react, the ropes bound her wrists, her ankles, and completely hogtied her. She fell backward onto the deck with an undignified thud, her cool, mysterious aura utterly ruined as she squirmed helplessly like a captured caterpillar.

The dining hall erupted into fresh laughter.

Robin's calm, serene smile froze. A bright, intense blush dusted her cheeks. She slowly turned her head, fixing Ben with a dark, terrifying glare that promised slow, agonizing retribution.

Ben took a slow sip of his coffee, maintaining a perfectly innocent, guiltless smile as if he had absolutely nothing to do with her humiliation.

"I owned every second that this world could give..."

"I saw so many places, the things that I did..."

The music softened, transitioning into a grand, epic instrumental bridge as the screen showed the dense, prehistoric jungles of Little Garden.

It showed the massive, earth-shaking battle between Dory and Brogy, their weapons clashing with the force of thunder. Then, it showed the friendly duel—Ben and Luffy standing back-to-back, facing down the two legendary giants in a test of pure strength and will.

Dory and Brogy watched the screen, smiling warmly. "That was a good day," Brogy rumbled. "A true warrior's duel."

The video showed the massive, terrifying Island Eater goldfish erupting from the ocean to block their path. And it captured the awe-inspiring moment when Dory and Brogy fired the Hakoku (Warrior Nation) shockwave, blasting a massive, perfect hole straight through the beast's giant body to clear the path for the ship to sail safely through.

"Yeah, with every broken bone, I swear I lived..."

The scene changed to blinding white snow. Drum Island.

The video showed Ben's magic carpet soaring high above the freezing blizzards, carrying Luffy and Sanji up the sheer, vertical face of the Drum Rockies toward the castle.

Then, it showed a small, furry reindeer standing in the snow.

The screen filled with brilliant, blooming pink light. The snow turned into falling sakura petals, illuminating the dark winter sky with the promise of a miracle.

Chopper watched himself on the screen, tears welling up in his eyes all over again as he remembered his mentor's dream coming true.

"With every broken bone, I swear I lived..."

The montage sped up, flashing through rapid, high-energy clips.

The golden sands of Alabasta. Crocodile flying through the bedrock.

The Knock Up Stream, launching the ship into the clouds.

The descent into Water 7. The chaotic, flying invasion of Enies Lobby. The destruction of the World Government flag.

"I, I did it all!"

"I, I did it all!"

"I owned every second that this world could give..."

"I saw so many places, the things that I did..."

"Yeah, with every broken bone, I swear I lived..."

The music reached its final, triumphant crescendo. The acoustic guitar strummed its last chord, fading out softly as the screen faded to black.

The dining hall was quiet for a long moment. The new crew members looked at the screen, and then at the small, core group of pirates who had lived through all of it. They had compressed a lifetime of legendary adventures into a few short months.

Luffy was grinning so widely his face looked like it might split. He looked around his table. He saw his swordsman, his navigator, his sniper, his cook, his doctor, his archaeologist, his shipwright, his musician, his princess, and his magician.

"We did some pretty cool stuff, huh?" Luffy laughed.

"We did," Ben agreed, shutting the projector off. He raised his coffee cup. "And we're just getting started. To the future."

"TO THE FUTURE!" The crew roared, clinking their glasses and mugs together.

They were bonded. They were strong. And they were completely, blissfully unaware that the Log Pose on Nami's wrist was currently pointing them directly toward an island of cross-dressing warriors that would test Sanji's sanity far more than any Marine Admiral ever could.
