Chapter 53 - CHAPTER 53

The education at the Uchiha School was progressing in full swing…

Each subject instructor had their own unique and drastic method of teaching, unlike the traditional Ninja Academy.

In the Water Release class, Zabuza known in the bingo book as the Demon of the Hidden Mist began the lesson by enveloping the entire training field in a thick Hidden Mist Jutsu, the same jutsu he once used to overwhelm Kakashi's team on the Great Naruto Bridge.

Dense fog swallowed every corner of the school grounds until visibility dropped to nearly zero.

Then, Zabuza distributed ten wooden tags, each with the students' names carved into them.

Zabuza spoke in his rough, icy tone:

"Next, we're playing hide-and-seek."

"But this hide-and-seek is not the childish version you know."

"In this exercise, you must locate others while preventing yourselves from being found."

He lifted one of the name-tags.

"You each have ten signs. Your goal is simple quietly stick these labels onto other people's backs without letting them notice."

He paused, then continued:

"At the same time, you must be vigilant not to let others stick their signs onto you."

"And listen carefully each tag can only be attached to one person."

"In other words, to place all ten of your tags, you must locate ten different classmates in this fog."

"Understood?"

The students responded excitedly and in perfect unison:

"Understood!"

Since this was their first time playing the game, the children immediately began chattering happily.

"I love games the most!"

"This one sounds super fun!"

"I didn't expect the terrifying Zabuza-sensei the man who decapitated people for breakfast to let us play games! Did the sun rise from the west today?!"

"…Right? Something must be wrong!"

Just as they were celebrating

Zabuza added casually:

"To make things a little more interesting, I've added a punishment rule."

"Whoever ends up with the most tags stuck on their back… will stay after school to train for several extra hours."

"And whoever manages to successfully stick the most tags… will be allowed to sleep a few extra hours tomorrow morning."

"However…"

His tone suddenly grew murderous.

"If anyone dares to secretly remove a tag already stuck to them during the game

don't blame me for being impolite."

The smiles on the students' faces instantly vanished.

Meanwhile, Zabuza of all people smiled viciously.

The law of conservation of smiles:

Smiles never disappear…

They merely transfer from one person's face to another's.

"So then"

"The game… officially begins!!"

Zabuza swung his hand down, signaling the start of the drill.

The students scattered into the fog like startled birds, disappearing into the mist-shrouded training field.

This game was something Zabuza had deliberated over for a long time.

Its purpose:

to test the students' Silent Killing fundamentals.

Silent Killing a technique perfected by the Hidden Mist Swordsmen was the art of erasing one's presence entirely:

no breath, no sound, no killing intent.

Thus, in this fog-filled battlefield

Whoever mastered Silent Killing better

would be able to sneak behind others and attach their tags without being detected.

And at the same time, avoid being tagged themselves.

...

One hour later

The fog dispersed as Zabuza cancelled the jutsu.

Zabuza gave a small glance toward Bai, who stood empty-handed with not a single tag remaining and, naturally, said nothing.

"Damn it!!"

Sasuke stared at the only tag remaining in his hand, his fists trembling in frustration.

He had lost again!!

First in the kunai-throwing match,

and now in this Silent Killing hide-and-seek game

He had lost twice in a row!

This made Sasuke, who had rarely tasted defeat before, grow increasingly unwilling!

"Waaah~~!"

At that moment, one of the younger students suddenly burst into tears.

He touched the thick pile of tags stuck all over his back, and his whole face collapsed.

He didn't just lose a little this time from the number of tags on his back, it looked like he wouldn't be going home for the next few days!

The poor kid stared miserably at Zabuza, hoping desperately to earn even a tiny shred of mercy from him.

However

Zabuza only said coldly:

"Tell your mother to prepare a futon.

You'll be living at the school for the next few days."

Little Ghost: "Waaahhh~~~!!"

...

In the Earth Release class,

Kuyshan stood before the students and spoke passionately:

"I've heard about the Water Release class teaching method.

Inhumane! Brutal! That fog game will only fuel hostility between classmates!"

The students nodded vigorously:

"Uh-huh!! Right!! Absolutely!!"

Kuyshan smiled warmly

"So next, to strengthen the unity between you all, we're going to do something more meaningful."

He pointed to himself.

"You will form a group and fight me use any method you want.

As long as you manage to knock me down, you can leave school early today."

"But if you fail,

you stay behind and train."

The students exchanged looks…

Then charged forward with a collective scream.

"Ahhhh!!"

"Hahaha! That's it!!"

Kuyshan burst into laughter and rushed toward the crowd.

Then proceeded to happily punch one student after another…

...

In the Lightning Release class,

Kakashi was even more outrageous.

On a stormy day, he marched the entire group of students up a mountain peak.

Then he sat cross-legged at the top as lightning ripped across the sky

Thunder roared, splitting clouds open.

Kakashi spoke calmly over the deafening noise:

"Feel the power of lightning…"

"In weather like this, the lightning-nature chakra in your bodies becomes more active—use this moment."

Crackle!

Rumble!!

Bolts of lightning struck nearby cliffs, shaking the mountain.

One terrified student trembled and whispered:

"Kakashi-sensei… isn't it dangerous for us to be standing somewhere so high during a thunderstorm?"

Kakashi frowned.

"To obtain power, one must be willing to pay a price.

Besides, even on a high mountain, the chances of being struck by lightning are very"

CRACK!!!

A massive bolt of lightning struck behind them.

A scream erupted:

"Ma yaaa!! This is bad, Sasuke just got hit by lightning!!"

...

...

In short

Under the various ruthless training methods of their monstrous instructors,

the students were mentally dead, physically drained, spiritually exhausted, and practically begging for mercy...

But at the same time

their improvement was astonishingly rapid.
