Chapter 473 - Chapter 473: The Battle Begins

Approaching the barrier, Xuan Kongzi's withered right hand reached out from beneath his black robe. With a single pull and tear, a narrow crack split open within the space barrier.

"Move swiftly. Strike decisively. If we're delayed inside, there will truly be no way out!"

"Yes!"

As his words fell, the figures wrapped tightly in black robes shot forward in silence, slipping through the rift and entering the distorted space beyond.

When the last of them had passed through, a faint, ghostly shadow followed in their wake — Liu Xi's soul projection — vanishing into the barrier without a sound.

Inside the distorted space stretched an endless expanse of blackened land. The soil shimmered faintly with an eerie pallor — countless shards of broken bones littering its surface, exuding a sinister chill.

At the center of that dark world loomed a colossal black palace, crouched like some ancient beast upon the earth. Waves of dread spread outward, filling the sealed realm with suffocating oppression.

From within the palace extended countless chains as thick as tree trunks, their ends buried deep in the earth. Black mist coiled around each chain, faintly shaping into humanoid forms, and from time to time, strange glows pulsed along the links before sinking into the mist, making it ever denser.

The silence was almost absolute. A dreadful, oppressive stillness blanketed the entire region.

Suddenly—

Whoosh!

The silence shattered as a dozen figures cloaked in black mist rose from the chains. The fog receded, revealing cold-faced men whose presence spread across the hall like death itself.

"Who dares trespass into the Hall of Souls? Do you all have a death wish?! Show yourselves!"

A hoarse voice bellowed from among them.

"Kill them all. Leave no survivors."

The response was only six calm words — then an explosion of violent Dou Qi erupted. It surged like a tidal wave — scorching, razor-sharp, and crushingly heavy — filling the space with lethal force.

"Not good! Too many enemies! Hurry and summon the Tianzun!"

Before they could react, the leader shouted in alarm, but the space around them was already sealed by the incoming energy. The impact slammed down like a meteor storm — dozens of black shadows screamed as they were obliterated, their bodies shattered by overwhelming power.

As their cries faded, several new figures emerged from the rolling mist — Xiao Yan's group stepping into the dark domain.

Wuuuh!

The moment they appeared, a shrill wail echoed from the giant hall. The mist upon the chains quivered, and countless pairs of ghostly eyes snapped open, all locking onto the intruders.

"How dare you trespass into our Hall of Souls and injure our Elders and Protectors — you're seeking death!"

Cold, soul-laden roars shook the air, and one after another, the black figures launched themselves skyward, streaking like dark comets toward Xiao Yan and his allies.

"Everyone, go all out! No mercy — finish them quickly!"

Xiao Yan's face hardened. The flame sigil on his forehead flared, and an immense white inferno burst forth — the Bone Chilling Flame. Any shadow that approached within ten meters was instantly scorched, screaming as their bodies froze and shattered into ash.

Though Xiao Yan's own strength as a 2-Star Dou Zun was limited, the 11th-ranked Bone Chilling Flame of the Heavenly Flame Ranking was terrifying. Under his control, it unleashed its full destructive might.

The firestorm raged, forcing the enemy to halt. Only now did they realize — this intruding group was no mere suicide squad. They were here fully prepared for war.

"Damn you! How dare you rampage in the Hall of Souls! Elders, seize them — let them taste the Soul-Corroding Punishment!"

The leading black-robed figure shrieked, his voice laced with Spiritual Power that made the intruders' minds reel.

But the rescuers did not flinch. Their cloaks fluttered in the heat, exposing only pairs of cold, determined eyes. Towering Dou Qi erupted skyward, distorting the very space around them.

The battlefield was a nightmare of shadow and flame. The Hall of Souls' forces included not only Dou Zuns but an endless number of Dou Zongs — their hound-like hunters, the ones who prowled the continent capturing souls.

Yet against more than a dozen powerful Dou Zuns, with four among them at the 9-Turn Dou Zun level, the defenders faltered. The black shadows were torn apart one after another, their forms dissolving into mist.

The Hall of Souls' men hesitated. These cloaked attackers fought like executioners — swift, ruthless, silent. There was no posturing, no drawn-out duels — only clean, decisive kills.

One of the black-cloaked leaders cursed under his breath, horrified by their ferocity. 'They knew this was the Hall of Souls — and still dared to slaughter so brazenly?'

"Damn you all! Elders, activate the Ten Thousand Soul Devouring Formation! Bind their spirits here — we'll atone with their souls!"

"Yes!" came the unanimous reply, cold and sharp.

In an instant, the black shadows stopped attacking and converged, their Dou Qi intertwining. A vast formation began to take shape — layers of black mist expanding outward like a dark sky curtain, swallowing the entire battlefield.

Wuuu—!

The air filled with wailing cries — the sound of a thousand tortured souls shrieking from within the fog. It clawed at the mind, gnawing at sanity.

Clang-clang!

Enormous chains, each as thick as a mountain serpent, lashed through the mist. Wherever they passed, space itself quivered and cracked apart.

Bang!

One chain struck a cloaked rescuer who failed to dodge in time. His body went rigid as an icy force surged through him, freezing both flesh and soul.

Bang!

A second strike followed. The air echoed with the sound of bones breaking — the man's Spiritual Power shattered, his life snuffed out in an instant.

The others froze in horror. Even a Dou Zun could die so quickly here. Their eyes turned to Xuan Kongzi, waiting.

He no longer held back. Against a formation woven by so many Elders and Protectors, half-measures would mean certain death. If the Tianzun arrived before they rescued Yao Chen, none of them would leave alive.

Hands flashing through seals, Xuan Kongzi muttered under his breath—

"Heaven Flame Burns the World!"

A torrent of golden flame erupted from his body, spiraling into a massive vortex that roared skyward like a volcanic eruption. The inferno tore through the heavy black mist above, punching a blazing hole through the sky curtain.
