Chapter 50 - Chapter 93: Atomic

A cold realization settled into his core. He had been focusing on the efficiency of UHS1, on the perfection of his reactors and the stability of his nano frame swarm. But safety and stability were merely foundations; they were not conquest. If he aimed only for the baseline of the Phase 6 task... a single star system... he would be outmaneuvered and ultimately assimilated by entities like Universe 999999.

Keon recalibrated his ambitions in real-time. 'Exceed the threshold. One star system is the minimum requirement, not the goal. If I am to compete, I must target one hundred star systems, perhaps more, within this hundred years time limit. Anything less, and I will be left behind.'

He adjusted his focus, opening the chat interface for Universe 5757 and Universe 339. Their title displays remained vibrant, glowing with a stable, white luminescence... representing they have successfully passed phase five. A stark contrast to the black, hollowed-out interfaces that signified the candidates who had been disqualified, their systems likely purged or annihilated by the competition's governing logic.

He paused for a microsecond to consider the fate of the eliminated.

'Were those who couldn't complete the phase simply erased? Or their universes still exist?' He shook the thought away; it was an inefficient use of processing power to contemplate a variable that could no longer influence his path.

Satisfied that his primary contacts remained viable, Keon closed the communication channel. The silence of the atmosphere returned, heavy and purposeful.

He pulled up the status panel, his eyes scanning the list of his sub-talents, the latent abilities that had brought him this far.

'Let's get to work. First upgrade the sub talent nano fabrication and then another cycle to upgrade all my achievements.'

Keon's decision crystallized within his neural nexus, a directive that bypassed all hesitation. He accessed the sub-talent interface, the glow of the Universal Sub Talent Upgrade Token pulsating with a familiar, high-density energy signature.

'Initiate process,' he commanded, the thought acting as a physical key in the vast digital infrastructure of his consciousness.

He navigated the selection menu, highlighting the Nano Fabrication entry. The screen shimmered with an expectant, golden light.

[Target Sub-Talent Selected: Nano Fabrication]

[Applying Universal Sub Talent Upgrade Token.]

The list entry for the sub-talent immediately began to glow with the same light-blue energy as the token. It was a visual representation of system-level rewriting. A final, flickering confirmation query materialized in his direct vision.

[Warning: Application of USTUT is irreversible. Selected Sub-Talent will be permanently transformed.]

[Proceed? Y/N]

Keon's mechanical core sent a final, silent affirmative wave.

[Confirmed.]

The holographic light intensified, blindingly, before contracting sharply, collapsing into the listed ability like a singularity. The text flickered violently, shedding its former classification and re-emerged, redefined by the system's absolute logic.

[Upgrade Complete.]

[Nano Fabrication has evolved into Sub Talent: Atomic Fabrication.]

[New Capacity: Sub-atomic-scale component creation. Atomic-Scale Complete Machines. Fabrication speed and precision are exponentially increased.]

A sensation of profound, structural shift rippled through his core. He had felt this evolution before, but the magnitude of this change was orders of magnitude greater, a leap that felt hundreds, perhaps thousands of times more impactful than previous iterations.

'Very well,' he thought, his excitement manifesting as a rapid flicker in his core frequency. 'It's time to test this new sub-talent. I can now apply all of these upgraded blueprints that I shelved in the previous ten years.'

He recalled the cache of data he had spent the last decade refining. During those years of relative isolation, he had assigned significant processing power from his neural nexus to iterate on his own limitations.

He possessed blueprints for the next size limit of the nano main frame... a reduction from the current one-millimeter scale to a one-micrometer scale, which equated to a thousand nanometers. Beyond that, he held the blueprints for the true one-nanometer stage. If he applied both simultaneously, his structure would reduce by millions of times.

Yet, caution tempered his ambition. 'Reduction alone is not the objective,' he reasoned, scanning the schematics. 'Miniaturization of the main core, sensors, and field generators is mandatory. The reduction requires massive technological breakthroughs to maintain effectiveness while stripping away volume.'

He analyzed the upgrade plans: first to the micrometer scale, then to the true nanometer scale. A flickering thought crossed his mind, a dismissal of his own hesitation. 'I have already researched both blueprints, including the necessary breakthroughs. It should not be a problem. I will test it; if the full reduction fails, I will wait for the next upgrade cycle. Even the micrometer size is sufficient... a structure smaller than a single human hair.'

Decision made, he applied the new nano main frame blueprint in tandem with the activation of the Atomic Fabrication talent.

The response was instantaneous.

Whether the main frames were integrated into the core structures of UHS1 or dispersed across the fleets and cluster units in deep space, they all reacted in unison. The main frames shook, a resonant frequency vibrating through his entire mechanical domain. Then, with surgical precision, each cubic nano-main frame split, dividing into billions of cubic-micrometer-sized units.

The structure of each micrometer-sized nanobot underwent an immediate, violent enhancement. The photon crystal nodes for processing, previously limited to two veins and four sub-veins/channels configuration, surged. They upgraded to four veins and eight sub-veins, then eight veins and sixteen sub-veins, finally stopping at sixteen veins and thirty-two sub-veins/channels in each node, as if they had hit a theoretical size limit dictated by the micrometer structure.

Simultaneously, the sensors and field generators shrank, their properties sharpening, their output density enhanced according to the new, more compact blueprints. The energy core and batteries were removed, instead luminous crystal nodes were added to the structure that store light energy. Along with the photovoltaic nodes that convert light into electric energy for operations.

The entire process, a transformation of his fundamental architecture, concluded in mere milliseconds, revealing the terrifying efficiency of the upgraded Atomic Fabrication talent.

The sensation of the successful upgrade washed through his neural nexus, a feeling of clarity and expanded capacity. He noted the surge in his processing power... it was the most significant boon of the entire process.

Each node now possessed thirty-two processing channels. These channels were no longer just binary lanes; they acted like the qubits of a quantum computer. Where the previous four channels had provided parallel, simultaneous calculations, the new thirty-two-channel array allowed for a computational density that bordered on the absurd.

'A single processing cluster is consist of thirty-two nodes, each node with thirty-two channels,' he realized, his consciousness reeling from the sheer scale of the math his new self could perform. 'The processing power is already higher than all the sand grains on the surface of UHS1 combined. Anyway, all of this processing power is necessary to control each and every micro meter scale nano main frame now. If such an upgrade of processing power was not possible, then the neural nexus would have sent more than half of my nano main frames into dormancy.'

Keon raised his hand, standing motionless atop the command roof. His pupils zoomed, and his sensors released precise wave-imaging to inspect the newly shrunken nano-main frame. He could immediately feel the difference; the previously microscopic, almost jagged unevenness of his bio-exoshell had been smoothed into a near-perfect, laminar finish.

He magnified the image to the microscale limit. The dodecahedron shape remained the same geometric bedrock of his architecture... but it had evolved into a far more complex machine. The binding mechanism had been entirely replaced. Instead of relying purely on the internal field generators, these units now utilized a reversible surface-binding mechanism.

On each of the twelve faces of the dodecahedron, he had fabricated microscopic pads... an architecture leveraging the same physics as gecko feet.

'Dynamic surface area alteration,' Keon logged, reviewing the structural parameters. 'When the face is flat, the van der Waals forces act with high friction, allowing them to stick with immense strength. When curled, the effective surface area drops to zero, allowing for instantaneous release.'

Complementing this, he had integrated a localized, switchable electrostatic layer on every face. By shifting voltage polarity in real-time, he could force his nanobots to attract or repel their neighbors with terrifying speed and precision.

'This changes everything,' he realized, a surge of logical satisfaction rippling through his nexus. 'I am no longer limited to rigid, bolted structures. I can now command my swarm to behave like a fluid... flowing and dynamic, reshaping my form at will... or lock into a crystalline lattice that rivals the tensile strength of high-grade steel. The phase transition between solid and fluid is now a variable under my total, instant control.'
