Chapter 20 - The War

"Will you need us, Marcus?" Sheriff Gene asked.

He and Marcus were sitting in a daytime bar which was very simply decorated. The bar, Moon's Shadow, was frequented by werewolves and humans alike.

Marcus had known Sheriff Gene for decades.

"It won't come to that." Marcus waved a hand.

"You know you will have the entire police department with you." Sheriff Gene said.

"Yes, but this is a war between werewolves and vampires." Marcus explained. "And it is a fight to the death."

**

Kyle stood atop a rusted carousel platform in the abandoned theme park, moonlight filtering through the skeletal remains of a Ferris wheel behind him. Below, hundreds of Enchanted Ones gathered, their silver eyes glinting like stars against the darkness.

At the edge of the crowd, partially concealed by the shadow of a dilapidated ticket booth, stood their witch, her face obscured by a midnight-blue hood. Her fingers curled into fists at her sides, trembling with barely contained fury as she watched Kyle adjust the ancient medallion at his throat, preparing to address her people.

"Tonight we end this war." Kyle said. "And we will become victorious!"

The crowd cheered like crazy. Even the clan leaders were excited to be a part of something greater than themselves.

**

"They're coming!" The front entrance guard alerted the others.

Marcus walked outside left his tent. He was ready to brawl as he cracked his knuckles.

Helena and Stephen were also ready. Helena was glad she didn't invite Ray that day or else he could have been killed. He was her only human friend left.

Damien awoke to the bell's ringing and saw that Jenna was not on her side of the bed.

Where could she have gone to now? Damien wondered.

He dressed himself and left the room towards the upcoming battle.

That time it was not mere numbers but hundreds of vampires led by Kyle, Nancy, and Dave stampeded inside the camp crushing the two werewolf guards in the process.

Hundreds of werewolves stood with hackles raised, their amber eyes reflecting the half-moon's silvery glow as they faced the pale-skinned vampires across the blood-soaked clearing.

The campfire between the two ancient enemies sputtered and hissed, casting long, dancing shadows that seemed to take on lives of their own. The night air crackled with centuries of hatred, each side's breath visible in the autumn chill as they waited for the inevitable command that would unleash chaos.

"Fight!" Marcus yelled.

"Go!" Kyle declared.

Both sides practically leapt at each other. That time, the vampires had the advantage as the Moonwalker pack's numbers were far less even if a single werewolf was equal to three vampires.

Marcus, Stephen, and Damien stared at Kyle, Nancy, and Dave.

Marcus's fist crashed into Kyle's jaw with a sickening crack, sending blood spattering across the dirt. Kyle snarled, fangs gleaming, and lunged forward with inhuman speed, driving his knuckles into Marcus's ribs with enough force to splinter bone.

Nearby, Stephen clawed desperately at air as Nancy blurred around him, her laughter like broken glass as she slashed open his shoulder.

Damien and Dave were locked in a death grip, muscles straining and veins bulging as they grappled, each trying to snap the other's spine.

Just then, a bird's cry was heard.

It was Jenna in her Phoenix form. She filled with the sky with hope for the werewolves and dread for the vampires.

The sky erupted into a tapestry of crimson and gold as Jenna's magnificent wings unfurled, each feather a living flame that shed embers like falling stars. The heat rippled the air around her, distorting the battlefield below while casting everything in a blood-orange glow that made the vampires' pale skin appear sickly and exposed.

She landed in the middle of the battlefield on her two feet in a badass kneeling position.

Her flames receded like a sunset, revealing her lithe figure draped in a floor-length gown of burnt orange silk that shimmered with golden undertones.

The dress clung to her curves before cascading into a pool around her feet, its fabric rippling like liquid fire with each breath she took. Embroidered phoenix feathers adorned the bodice, catching what little light remained and throwing it back in defiant sparks that matched the dangerous glint in her eyes.

"I am here to end this." She said. "Once and for all."

Everybody stopped fighting. Even though the werewolves had seen this sight before, they were still amazed by her power. The vampires didn't whether to attack or retreat and awaited Kyle's order.

"Father?!" Nina exited the clinic in a gown.

She was trying to get to her feet and Marcus began to run to her but Kyle reached the redheaded girl first.

Kyle proceeded to rip her heart out with one hand when he noticed it wasn't inside Nina's chest but Jenna's!
