Chapter 99 - New Asgard and New Beginnings?

Here is the Extra chapter!

I rubbed my eyes as I finished the last of my paperwork. There was a lot that went into purchasing such an enormous volume of food and it was filled with international red tape. I digress, it was finished now and that was all that mattered.

"Hestia, could you please create a Stargate for the New York tower and direct the trade-ship's contents through it once it arrives?" I asked aloud, knowing that all of my 'children' could hear me from anywhere in the Chrysler.

"Yes father, I have already been working with Apollo to create a Stargate for every cargo-tower we own. We figured it would be easier to transport some more delicate goods this way in comparison to using the cargo-ships for everything..." She casually said, her holographic form flashing into the seat in front of me.

"Great job Tia... Wait, how did you get past the problem of Stargates only working one at a time on a planet and only being able to lock to a distant gate?" I asked whilst leaning back in my office chair.

"We came up with the concept after analysing the portals Doom used in the final battle on Earth 909. The way that he was bending space allowed for an instant lock on distant or far coordinates, we just took that unique telemetry and fiddled with the Stargate for a little to achieve it. The Ancients who created the Stargates were very close to this capability already, we just had to nudge the tech to work in that way." Hestia excitedly, though casually, answered.

I whistled in awe at how quick my two super AI 'children' had figured out a problem that the Ancients themselves had been trying to solve for ages in Stargate lore. "That's awesome, I'm proud of you both." I complimented before looking at the chat and seeing Loki's latest message. When I looked upwards once more Hestia was blushing in embarrassment whilst Apollo suddenly emerged and hugged his sister whilst humming a tune.

Rolling my eyes at Apollo's antics I stretched my neck and shoulders a little, getting ready to stand up and go to Rakata Prime.

"Father, our Aunt is here." Apollo commented whilst draping himself over the chair next to Hestia.

"Shit..." I cursed. "I did call her back didn't I?" Apollo nodded at my rhetorical question, his mood slowly recovering after the crash out he had.

Walking over to my lab I quickly tapped a DNA scanner on the wall, opening the sliding doors, before walking through towards the far end of the lab. Athena's server core sat next to the first prototype Multiversal Stargate I had ever made, it's black exterior softly shifting backwards and forwards as Artemis knelt next to it and added some internet limitations to her sister's programming. The room was a mess of different tools and materials, the cast majority of them being eclectic mixes between alloys and superconductors.

"I'll get back to your sister soon Arti, I just need to go help the refugees with their buildings and stuff." Artemis simply nodded at my reassurance before continuing her block-out command for when Athena would use the internet. I could tell it would be harmless and simply let her continue.

Striding towards the stargate I simply raised my right hand and waved it to the right, a flash of red energy sparking against exterior superconductors before the event horizon just appeared completely stable. The changes to my biology were unknown to me still but I didn't have much time to dally...

Ignoring the buzzing sound of Emma's voice from the security feeds throughout the lobby I stepped through the Stargate, the wormhole dragging me through space in an instant. It was so instant in fact that I simply strode out the other side without any loss of momentum, my legs taking me a few more steps until I came to a halt and absorbed the scene around me.

The site was chaos. Thousands of people had huddled themselves near to the Ziggurat whilst Asgardian soldiers slowly started clearing the surrounding jungle. Barges full of food, tools, technologies and artefacts laid not but one hundred metres away from the Stargate, all of them pinned to the ground due to the weight they carried. Women, children and the elderly clustered near one another in trepidation as local wildlife, unfamiliar to them, slowly gathered around the refugees in curiosity.

Narrowing my gaze at the animals I shook my head before looking towards the Ziggurat once more. Loki was standing at the base of the monument conversing with several elder Asgardians who looked like stereotypical 'council members'. Somewhat separated from that discussion Hela stood next to Fenrir and several generals, all of them pointing towards the animals and various other landscape features.

After a minute to analyse all of this I decided to simply walk over to Loki, his meeting be damned. The newly minted King saw me walking towards him and quickly raised a hand to stop his companions' words. By the time I reached the little huddle they were all looking towards me, Loki with respect and the closeness only a best friend could show, whilst the councillors all seemed put-off by the fact that a Midgardian so simply walked up to their king.

"Loki, it's good to see you." Our hands gripped each other's forearms before we both released. Each of the councillors wore shock and awe across their faces as they witnessed this.

"You too my friend... You too..." He murmured out softly before blinking away his thoughts and continuing, "What brings you here? We were just beginning to clear some of the Jungle in hopes of making shelters."

A grin slipped onto my face.

"Well, I'm here to help you get some housing set up. I don't know if you want this location to be your city but I can definitely set up enough houses to at least allow for reconnaissance teams to start looking?" I stated in a questioning tone.

The councillors all looked between one another and looked at their king pleadingly, no doubt they wished for as much aid as I could provide.

"Is there any large cliffs or mountainous lands?" Loki asked curiously, his mind whirring away behind his verdant green eyes.

Frowning I tapped my watch and brought forth the scans my Fury had first made on coming into low orbit. A hologram extended upwards before a search bar flickered off to the side and I mentally entered the specifications he had asked for.

There were a few options but all of them were ill-suited for permanent residence without heavy manpower requirements or advanced technology. Narrowing my eyes I looked for the highest point on the planet and saw the image of a wrecked capital ship that had embedded itself into a mountainside, the zenith of the crash site being a thousand meters higher than Everest was on Earth; possible due to the larger size of Rakata compared to Earth.

"There are a few options but the most interesting one would be this worlds largest mountain range that has a peak that scrapes into the stratosphere. You would have to build your city into the wreck and perhaps face some remnant technology but it could serve will as a base for your capital city..." Tapping the watch I shrugged as the Asgardians whispered amongst themselves, Loki included as he was being spoken to a relatively young member of the council, a woman with raven hair, orange eyes and copper skin.

They took a few more moments to converse before Loki looked towards me once again.

"We will create New-Asgard upon that peak and create the city of Iðavöllr around it. Would it be possible to get our citizens there and settled with house before sunset?" Loki inquired whilst looking mildly embarrassed at the amount of effort he was asking me to expend, which was much lesser than he thought it was; especially given Apollo and Hestia's recent technological breakthrough with the Stargates.

"Don't stress it. I'll go set up a gate on the peak and create some large apartments for your people around this one, that way we're not trying to make houses on an unhospitable mountain straight away... Also, it will allow you to send people up to the mountain to get started on making idavollir, or whatever it's called." I chuckled at the intentional mispronunciation I made before simply walking over to my parked Fury, still set in the middle of the glade; where I left it last time.

~~~
Five minutes later I was hovering above New-Asgard's mountaintop, the energy within me burning brightly behind my eyelids as I created a copy of the Stargate from my lab, which Apollo confirmed, was the one they had first meddled with before creating the blueprint for the updated Stargates.
Once the Stargate was placed firmly into a flat, craggy, cliffside I closed the Fury's ramp and set off back towards the temporary settlement. Before leaving to set up this Stargate I had created several hundred apartment buildings with arc-reactors in the basement to power each of them. The structures themselves were bare and lacking sophistication or grandeur but would serve well as shelters for the refugees.
I could make skyscrapers or many other things they could use for a city but I knew that a society could only thrive from the efforts of its own people. The Asgardians needed to feel invested in this new beginning. The Midgardians would feel more comfortable knowing that they could be included in this effort and everyone else would soon find themselves connecting with one another and becoming one people... It would be a long road for that to come true, but eventually the cultures, religions and beliefs of the different peoples would unite.
Sighing I watched lights flicker on inside the distant apartment buildings, all 215 of them. My work had been completed here for now... Now it was time to just relax for a minute and process the sheer chaos of my life. Harry and Sirius's mission hadn't seen any change and they had been relatively silent in chat, alongside Shiroe, so I wasn't in a rush to chase after the next adventure.
A beep drove me from my decompressive thoughts, my watch lighting up.
"Drecarios Frost! You better have a good reason to have dragged me into this lab! AND YOU BETTER EXPLAIN THE MULTITUDE OF AI CHILDREN YOU HAVE MADE!!!" My sister's harsh voice screamed out from my watch before I hung up on her, holding my right hand over my ear as I tried to stop it ringing.
"Fuck my life..." I grumpily whispered as the Fury softly landed in the middle of the glade once more.
~~~

Rogue was nervous as she stepped out of the taxi, her hands lightly shaking as she watched Iron Man, Tony Stark, land on the roof of Drecarios' building. She couldn't decide whether she was excited, nervous or full of dread at the prospect of seeing him again.

The taxi abruptly screeched away from the Chrysler, the smell of burning rubber prolificating as the din of New York buzzed in the background. Gulping she looked around at the entrance, watching as several staff members walked in and out every few minutes, carrying large suitcases presumably full of paperwork or money. All of them were dressed like top of the line business men and women, making her feel a little stifled as she had just chosen her typical 'goth' outfit, with a studded choker and the flat-top high heels.

"I guess I just have to go in now..." She muttered to herself awkwardly, her voice coming out a little strained as she continued to watch the employees of Drecarios transition in and out of the building like worker ants.

Taking a deep breath, her duffle bag hanging limply over her shoulder and held by three fingers, she took one step and then another towards Frostborn Dynamics. Her heels clacked loudly against the pavement as she reached the glass swinging doors, the ant-like staff all ignoring her in favour of continuing their discussions or getting on with their work day.

No one took a second look at her attire or the fact she had a duffle bag slung over her shoulders, or the backpack she wore upon her back... It was, strange, to her. She was used to standing out as an X-man, she was used to her 'Goth' look being eye-catching. Here, it was just simply ignored.

'It must be because they work around the Avengers or something... yeah, that makes sense...' She thought anxiously as she stepped towards the beautiful gold-silver reception desk that was vaguely shaped like a wave in motion.

"Hello, how may I help you today?" A chipper looking brunette asked from behind the desk, her hazel eyes gleaming in happiness.

"A-um... I have an appointment with Drecarios... Ahum, Drecarios Frost? Discordia set it up..." Rogue stuttered out awkwardly, her skin crawling in discomfort as she felt several heads turn in her direction at the mention of her meeting Drecarios.

"Oh! Most definitely! Let me...-" Before the receptionist could continue an elevator opened and a most unnatural looking woman stepped out. She had orange-gold eyes and porcelain skin with a tightly formed bun of stark raven hair that was held together by a small dagger that had many small apples engraved into its handle.

"That will be fine Veronica, I will take care of her from here." The woman's velvety voice soothingly interrupted as she turned and faced Rogue, a small smile lighting up her face. The receptionist went completely silent and looked utterly stunned at what was happening.

"A-um... Are you Discordia?" Rogue asked with the last remnants of her bravery.

"Yes. Now let's go upstairs... I have to inform Drecarios of your presence." Discordia waved her over to the elevator, holding a single hand over the open doorway to prevent the elevator from disappearing.

"O-okay...!" Rogue stammered out before swiftly marching over to the elevator and past Discordia.

The sound of a pin-drop could be heard from somewhere behind them as every single person inside the lobby stared at them incredulously.

'Was it something I said?' Rogue asked herself as Discordia stepped inside the elevator and pressed the penthouse button on the side, the doors closing soon after.
