POV: Kyo
When I arrived behind the school gym, I saw Miu crouched down, practically sitting on the ground. Her eyes were filled with tears, and she looked terrified. In front of her stood three girls.
One of them was holding a bucket.
A bucket that looked full.
Already knowing what was going on, I spoke up to get their attention. "What do you think you're doing?" All three girls looked at me at the same time. Miu looked at me too.
Her tear-filled eyes lit up.
"Kyo?" The girl with the bucket looked surprised to see me. She lowered the bucket and placed it on the ground. "It's nothing, we were just talking. Right?" She glanced at the other two girls, who seemed to be her friends.
"Yeah, that's right! We were just talking!"
"Yeah, of course!"
All three of them were visibly nervous.
'They've got some nerve… it's starting to annoy me.' I took slow steps toward them and approached Miu. I crouched down in front of her and looked into her eyes. Then I said, "I'm sorry I took so long."
I smiled at Miu.
After hearing my words, Miu finally started crying.
She covered her face with her hands to hide it. I almost reached out to pat her head, but held myself back. Then I said, "You three, what were you doing to Miu?"
"I already told you, didn't I? We were just talking."
"I'm not an idiot. Why are you doing this?"
"..." None of the three girls said anything.
I stood up and looked at them.
They were shorter than me.
"Is it because of the photo?" I asked.
"What are you talking about?"
"The photo of me with Miu. Is it because of that? Do you like me or something?" I was straightforward.
"What are you even saying? Hahaha."
The three girls started playing dumb.
Huff~~ I let out a sigh and said, "Fine. You can leave now."
"Alright… But before we go, what are you and that girl? You're not dating, are you?"
"That's none of your business. But listen…" I took a step forward, staring directly into the eyes of the girl who seemed to be the leader. "I'm someone who doesn't like trouble. I always behave myself and prefer to keep to myself. But understand this… If I find out you ever do something like this to Miu again, I'll make your lives a living hell. Got it?"
The girl took a step back, clearly frightened.
"Got it?" I asked, looking at the other two as well.
"Yes!" all three answered at once.
"Now get out of here. I don't want to see your faces again. And if you know anyone who's thinking about doing something to Miu, tell them this—if they do anything, I'll make their lives a living hell. I don't care about my reputation or anything like that."
The three girls ran off as fast as they could.
'Damn it, I lost my temper.'
The worst thing a famous person can do is act like a bully or aggressive during their school years. That can be used against me in the future. Well, whatever.
I looked at Miu, who was still crouched down, staring at the ground.
Then I sat down beside her.
"Why did you do that?" Miu asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Why did you protect me like that? Why did you say those things? The whole school will turn against you too!"
Miu looked at me, still crying.
"What do you mean the whole school will turn against me? Is the whole school against you?"
"No… not the whole school, but my classmates, they…"
"Those girls are your classmates?"
"Yes…"
"I see. I really don't care if people start hating me because of this." I smiled at her. "I protected a friend. That's all that matters."
"…You shouldn't have done that. You shouldn't have gone that far."
"I already told you, didn't I? I like you. That's why I don't want to see you suffer like this. You're a special friend."
Miu's face turned red, and she hid it.
She's incredibly cute.
"Besides, this was my fault. I should've been more careful. I held your hand that day…"
"No, it wasn't your fault! It's my fault for being so weird… hahaha."
"You're not weird, Miu." I said, and our eyes met again. "You're like me. A beautiful and talented girl with tastes that are different from other people. You're different from them, that's why they treat you badly. They're idiots."
They only treat me well because they don't know my tastes in anime, manga, and series—and also because I'm extremely smart and good-looking.
Miu, on the other hand, comes off as gloomy and doesn't "take care" of her appearance.
On top of that, she makes her tastes very obvious.
She's seen as a "weird, ugly nerd," so people treat her badly.
Now that she's getting closer to me, the hatred toward her—especially from other girls—has increased even more.
"Beautiful…?" Miu focused on that word.
"Yes, beautiful. You just need to take a bit better care of yourself." I raised my hand to her forehead and lifted her bangs. She wasn't wearing her glasses, so I could see her face even more clearly.
She had big, cute eyes. Her skin was smooth and very soft to the touch.
She really is very beautiful… probably the most beautiful among the girls I've seen at this school.
"Ah, sorry for touching you without permission."
"It's okay." Miu placed her hand over the spot on her forehead where I had touched.
I thought I heard a faint laugh as she hid her face.
After talking a bit more, we both stood up.
I found out Miu wasn't wearing her glasses because those girls had broken them and thrown them away. She didn't even know where they were. She wouldn't be able to see the board or read properly, but even so, she decided to go back to class.
I walked her to her classroom.
When we arrived, I saw the same three girls.
I looked at them, making my anger toward them very clear.
None of the other people around seemed to notice.
They didn't tell anyone about what I said to them?
I said goodbye to Miu and then returned to my own classroom.
Fortunately, no one else approached Miu to intimidate her.
I think it's time to ask for her phone number, don't you think? I even have the numbers of those three girls I went out with once. Actually, they text me every day…
As soon as I left school, I headed straight to the CloverWorks studio with my father.
