Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Seniors

『Felix Karl Grimm』

"-And then the frogs tongue wrapped around me, it was so gross. I really hate frogs. I wish Megumi could have saved me using literally anything else."

"Mhm. That sounds rough. Same thing for insects for me. I'd rather get punched through by Sukuna again rather than let a cockroach crawl on me."

Hearing my nonchalant and lighthearted comment, Nobara shot me a concerned look.

"...Are you sure you are okay?"

I shrugged my shoulders which were currently weighed down by a few dozen shopping bags.

"When am I ever? But yeah, I'm doing better than I probably should."

She placed a hand on my shoulder and squeezed while still licking her ice cream. Conspicuously, her arm did not hold any shopping bags.

"Don't push yourself too hard, okay? I'd rather not see you dead."

Hearing the hypocrisy in her words, I couldn't help but give her a flat stare and flick at one of her buns, making her hiss at me.

"You can't say don't push yourself too hard and then give me 40kg of shopping bags, how are you going to wear all of this anyway? We wear uniforms most of the time."

I deftly avoided her poking my ribs as Nobara crossed her arms and pouted slightly.

"A lady has to look her best you know? You think fashion is easy? You get to see me in these clothes, so you should understand how important this all is. Besides, since Gojo-sensei is sponsoring our date, I have to squeeze him dry while I can."

Well, hearing her reasoning I was inclined to agree actually. She was currently dressed in a very stylish cyan shirt with long arms and short white overalls that worked together unexpectedly well. Helped along by her twin buns hairstyle. She even forced me to buy some clothes, which was why I was currently wearing black pants, a yellow shirt and a lavender windbreaker. She had an excellent sense of fashion.

And the reason we were able to afford all of this was because Nobara had successfully managed to guilt-trip Gojo into paying for this date since we nearly died while he wasn't there.

As for the date itself, it was unexpectedly... standard? At least from what I had expected from Nobara. She seemed to have planned everything out, we went for bowling, shopping, shopping, shopping, shopping, shopping, shopping and shopping with some shopping in between and a meal at a trendy dessert place.

Which was a breath of fresh air for me in terms of dates, quite different from going to a dirty nightclub/brother/bar for your first bar and getting a thighjob before your date pukes and passes out.

I had no idea what she was trying to do though, nor why she wanted to date me. Nobara was an enigma. She was clearly interested in me, but her way of going about things was a mix of headstrong and traditional at the same time. She clearly wanted the 'City Girl Date' but on her own terms.

"This was fun, we have to do it again sometime, right?"

Nobara looked at me with expectant eyes and I could not, and would not muster up the will to say no. After all, I had fun too, even if shopping for that long was mentally exhausting.

"Yeah sure, but we should really return now."

"Ok! Indeed, you really are good boyfriend material. But don't get ahead of yourself, I'm not a loose girl, you'll need at least a few more dates to become my boyfriend."

"Ok."

"Like, at least two more."

I gave her a long look which made her turn her head away. It was like she couldn't decide between playing hard to get with her pride, and wanting a boyfriend badly at the same time. She was almost like Rebecca if she was insecure.

Which meant she was very cute.

"Sigh... When are classes going to resume anyway? I'm gonna die of boredom at this rate."

Megumi yawned from next to me while Nobara was busying herself with playing with my hair. We were currently sitting on the steps of the school doing the very important Jujutsu Sorcerer task of absolutely nothing at all.

"Both Kusakabe-sensei and Gojo-sensei are on missions, so probably tomorrow or the day after. We usually do self training."

"Groaaaan... I thought I'd actually get to study Jujutsu in this place."

"We do study here. You are just unlucky."

I really wanted to practice Satsui no Hado, but I wasn't stupid enough to do without anyone around who could beat my ass and calm me down just in case. Because if I went berserk I couldn't guarantee that Megumi would not swing his sacred treasure all over me and get us both killed.

"Eh, I really just want summer uniforms sooner than later, the weather is really heating up."

"Seconded."

The heat pissed me off, so I went without the top of my uniform, with just the white shirt underneath. But, since there were no way I could train what I wanted without the teachers around, I had another idea.

"Yo, Megumi, your cursed technique has subjugation rituals and such, right?"

Despite being taken aback by my question, he nodded.

"Yes, I was thinking about tackling Max Elephant soon."

I rubbed my chin with a conniving expression. A truly devious thought had emerged within the confines of my foul mind.

"And, when an outside party interferes and defeats the shikigami, you can still summon them again for a subjugation ritual, right? Meaning you don't lose anything."

Megumi narrowed his eyes.

"Yes. What are you getting at?"

I couldn't help but grin slightly.

"So, hypothetically speaking, you could start a subjugation ritual, and I could beat up your shikigami and expand my technique that way, and you wouldn't lose out. And we could even include Gojo-sensei to make sure that even if I failed, he could bail me out."

Megumi raised a finger in protest, about to speak before he stopped himself and closed his mouth. This continued for several minutes before he made up his mind.

"As much as I want to chastise you for this idea being stupid, you are right, that would most likely work. I don't know whether to call you a genius or reckless for an idea as out there as that."

"Call him a genius, by dating him, it raises my status by proxy."

Megumi let out a suffering groan but was interrupted by a different kind of footstep and a new feminine voice calling out to us.

"You look glummer than usual Megumi, did you miss us that badly?"

"Zennin-senpai."

"Oi, don't use my surname. And I see the new first years are with you?"

I lifted my eyes to see the newcomers, a girl with above average height and a formidable body structure, not as solid as Yuji's, but her body was definitely unusually strong, even if the cursed energy leaking from her body was merely on the level of a civilian. She had long moss green hair, brown eyes, purple glasses, and wore a uniform similar to Nobara's.

Standing behind her was a large panda, and a boy with white hair and his jacket zipped all the way up to his mouth. But I did not spare them more than a glance.

"So.. who are they?"

Completely ignoring their posturing, Nobara asked Megumi, making the green haired girl's brows furrow in annoyance.

"They are the second years I talked about. She is Zennin-senpai, the best student at using Cursed Tools. That's Panda-senpai, he is a panda. And that's Inumaki-senpai, he can only speak in rice ball ingredients. There is also Okkotsu-senpai, the only one who I can openly respect, but he is overseas right now."

Nobara looked at the funny looking panda before turning to Megumi again.

"So are we just going to gloss over the fact that he is a Panda?"

"Why not, Panda's have rights too, I think. Do Panda's have rights?"

Hearing my question, Panda scratched his head dumbly while both of the girls gave me incredulous looks.

"Hmm, I don't think Panda's can legally enroll in school, but we Jujutsu Sorcerer's operate mostly outside of the law, so it's okay!"

He gave me a thumbs up, and I turned to Nobara.

"See? Apparently they can."

Nobara grumbled something about me being lucky that I am handsome or something before Zennin, or as I knew her, Maki rubbed the bridge of her nose and growled.

"Oi! Juniors, introduce yourselves."

"Maki, don't be so hostile to our juniors, what if you scare them off?"

"Seaweed."

Her strict senior act was falling apart by the second, and I found it quite hilarious. Still, Nobara seemed to want to humor her as she stood up and put her hands on her hips and grinned.

"I am Nobara Kugisaki, the prettiest best girl in the first years. My cursed technique is resonance. Pleasure to meet you!"

Maki raised her eyebrow and did not comment on the fact that she was the only girl among the 4 first years. Following after her, I stood up too and gave her a thumbs up.

"The names' Felix Karl Grimm, you can just call me any variation of Grimm. My cursed technique is too convoluted to explain but the gist of it is that I have a lot of it. There is also Itadori, but he overslept, and he sleeps like a dead person so we left him behind."

She nodded at my words and lifted her chin up to emulate someone looking down on others, but she did not have her heart in it so it just fell flat.

"We can fill him in later. Listen up, First years, we have an opportunity for you-"

Panda cut in abruptly.

"What she means to say is that we'd like you all to participate in the Kyoto Sister School Exchange event."

Nobara exchanged confused looks with Megumi who began to explain as was his duty as our exposition machine.

"It's a get-together event with the other Jujutsu School, typically, both Principals come, and multiple events happen in order to foster goodwill between the schools, but it's rarely anything but. Though I remember it being mostly for second and third years."

Maki nodded her head after she was done glaring death at Panda.

"It is, but unfortunately, those stupid third years are suspended at the moment. So we need you all to fill in. Are you up for it?"

I tilted my head. Let's see if the butterflies have changed anything so far.

"Depends, what would we do?"

She responded with a ferocious grin.

"They say they pick between proposed events, but it's always Team Battles and Individual Battles. A battle between sorcerers where anything but killing goes. You scared?"

"Of course, we'd help train you all up so that you won't die." "Salmon roe."

Panda and Inumaki sneakily cut in, but I was already convinced. The event sounded roughly like how it was in the anime which was what I was looking for, Hanami was my best bet for getting to the next world on the wheel. And beating up people was my ticket to getting more tickets.

"Then I'm in, I'd like to fight someone that I can actually beat for once instead of Jujutsu Satan."

Maki put her hands on her hips and half scoffed and half laughed.

"Hah! The cocky ones at least have spirit to them. They are the best ones to train. Let's see how long that attitude lasts for."

Her words stoked a flame inside me. I felt my Kure genes and my Satsui being equally rankled and equally excited at the prospect of a good challenge.

"Well, if my not-yet-boyfriend is participating, I will as well. I want to get stronger too after all. We don't need to ask Itadori or Megumi."

"Listen here, don't disregard the feelings of your teammates so callously, but yes. I will participate, and I doubt there is anyone that can convince Itadori not to participate."

Hearing the voices of agreement, Maki looked satisfied as she grinned.

"Well then, we start tomorrow! Everyone, be ready by then, we won't go easy on you."

Oh they better not.

A/N: Nobara is cute, not much more than I can say. And Felix is recovering from Post Sukuna Stress Disorder quite well. Although he is struggling a bit with Satsui no Hado, which is a given considering even Ryu of all people was struggling with it, and you know how great that guy is.

Maki is here, one of the best girls of JJK! I'd like to hear from you guys, which one do you prefer? Maki or Nobara? Also, the exchange event is going to come near, and if you guys know anything, it's just how well things can go for Felix, knowing his track record.
