Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

To commemorate this momentous occasion, Orion reaches behind the counter, pulling out a pristine, white and red Poké Ball.

"Allow me to present you with this Premier Ball, a memento of this momentous occasion," he says, handing the special Poké Ball to Valeria. "It's a limited edition Poké Ball, given out as part of the grand opening event of Pokémon Home."

Orion proceeds to explain the use of the Poké Ball, demonstrating how to activate it by pressing the button on its surface. He explains how to aim it at the Pokémon and the capture sequence that follows.

Valeria takes the Premier Ball, examining it with a critical eye. She presses the button, and the Poké Ball enlarges to the size of her palm.

Following Orion's instructions, she pushes the Premier Ball towards Beldum. With a flash of red light, Beldum is enveloped in energy and drawn into the Poké Ball. The device shakes three times, each shake accompanied by a soft click. Then, silence. The Poké Ball stops shaking, indicating a successful capture.

Valeria stares at the Poké Ball in her hand, her mind reeling. Incredible! Pocket-sized dimension technology! I have to dissect this when I get back to the lab, she thinks, her scientific curiosity piqued.

Valeria, eager to test the device, presses the button on the Poké Ball again. With a flash of white light, Beldum reappears, floating silently beside her.

"This thing is amazing!" she exclaims, her voice filled with genuine awe and wonder.

Orion, sensing an opportunity for an upsell, leans in conspiratorially. "Now that you have Beldum, you'll need to provide it with the proper nourishment to help it grow strong and healthy."

He gestures towards a shelf stocked with colorful packages and bottles. "I highly recommend our specially formulated Poké Blocks and Moomoo Milk. They're packed with all the essential nutrients Beldum needs to thrive."

Valeria, eager to do right by Beldum, nods eagerly. "I'll take them," she says, grabbing a bag of Poké Blocks and a carton of Moomoo Milk.

Orion's eyes twinkle with delight. "And while you're at it, may I suggest a Pokédex? It's an essential tool for any aspiring Pokémon Trainer."

He pulls out a sleek, red tablet from behind the counter. The device is a sleek, red tablet with a large touchscreen display. It has a high-resolution camera lens on the back and a comfortable grip.

"The Pokédex is a digital encyclopedia that records information about Pokémon you encounter," Orion explains. "It's filled with valuable data about their habitats, abilities, and evolutionary patterns."

Valeria considers the Pokédex, her mind already calculating its potential research value. "I'll take that too," she says, her voice decisive.

Orion completes the transaction, handing Valeria the Pokédex with a flourish. Eager to put it to use, Valeria aims the device at Beldum, activating its scanning function.

The Pokédex whirs to life, its screen displaying a wealth of information about Beldum.

[Species: Beldum — The Iron Ball Pokémon

Type: Steel / Psychic

Height: 0.6 meters

Weight: 95.2 kilograms

Sex: Male

Moves:Tackle.

Ability: Clear Body.

Description: Beldum's body is composed entirely of magnetized metal alloys. It moves through the air by generating controlled electromagnetic pulses, allowing it to levitate silently. Instead of a brain or heart, it possesses a single core that functions as both—an energy reactor powered by psychic force and magnetism.

Despite appearing mechanical, Beldum is a living organism. It communicates using magnetic signals rather than sound. When several Beldum gather, their magnetic waves synchronize, causing them to move and act as a single mind.

The red eye on its head continuously scans its surroundings using electromagnetic fields, capable of detecting both living and metallic objects.

If you encounter a Beldum in the wild, avoid standing directly between it and metallic surfaces—it can accidentally pull small metal objects toward itself with surprising strength.

It is theorized that Beldum originated from meteorites, suggesting it may have extraterrestrial roots.]

Valeria is impressed. The Pokédex provides a comprehensive overview of Beldum, confirming its unique characteristics and potential.

Her gaze drifts back to the Pokédex, specifically to the line that reads, Type: Steel / Psychic.

"What are these types, exactly?" Valeria inquires, her brow furrowed in thought. "Is it like...a classification system?"

Orion beams, sensing another opportunity to educate his newest customer. "Ah, types determine a Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses, like the elements in the periodic table. Steel types, for example, are strong against physical attacks and resistant to many elements. On the other hand, Psychic types are known for their mental abilities and are effective against Fighting-types, but they can be weak against Dark-types."

He continues enthusiastically, his hands animated as he speaks. "There are eighteen types in total: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Steel, Dark, and Fairy. Each type has its own unique strengths and weaknesses, creating a complex web of interactions."

"So, it's like a rock-paper-scissors game, but with eighteen different options?" Valeria asks, her eyes widening in understanding.

"Precisely!" Orion exclaims, snapping his fingers. "And mastering these type matchups is the key to success in—"

"Success in what?" Valeria asks, interrupting Orion's train of thought. "The description also mentioned the word 'moves'."

Orion gasps, a dramatic flourish to his voice. "Why, Pokémon battles, of course!"

"Pokémon battles? What are Pokémon battles?

He clasps his hands together, his eyes shining with excitement. "Pokémon battles are the heart and soul of the Pokémon world! It's where Trainers command their Pokémon to test their skills, strategy, and teamwork."

He pauses, taking a deep breath. "It's a thrilling dance of strategy and skill, where Trainers pit their Pokémon against one another in spectacular displays of power and grace. It's a chance to forge unbreakable bonds with their Pokémon, teaching them new skills, pushing them to their limits, and celebrating their victories together."

"And it's not just about raw power, Valeria," Orion continues, his voice filled with passion. "It's about strategy, tactics, and understanding your Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses. It's about predicting your opponent's moves, exploiting their vulnerabilities, and unleashing devastating combos that leave the crowds roaring!"

Orion pauses to catch his breath, his cheeks flushed with excitement. "Trainers battle to bring glory and fame to themselves and to help their Pokémon grow stronger," he continues, his voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. "With each victory, their Pokémon gains experience, unlocking new abilities and evolving into even more powerful forms."

Valeria ponders the concept of Pokémon battles. It sounds… intense. But also strangely compelling. Could this be a way to train Beldum to protect itself?

"So, how do I participate in these… battles?" she asks, her curiosity piqued.

Orion's face falls slightly, a shadow passing over his features. "Well, that's the tricky part, my dear. As of right now, you and I are the only Pokémon Trainers in this world. And with Pikachu being… well, being too experienced, it wouldn't be a fair fight for your newly acquired Beldum."

He pats Pikachu affectionately, the Electric-type Pokémon chirping in response. "Pika!"

"Perhaps in time, when Beldum has grown stronger and more experienced, they can face off in a friendly match," Orion says, his voice filled with hope. "But for now, it's best to focus on training and bonding with your new partner."

Valeria felt a light ignite inside her. A spark of challenge, of discovery, and most importantly, of purpose. She has a companion, a project, and something to master. "I'll train Beldum to be the strongest it can be!" Valeria says, her voice ringing with a newfound resolve.

"How many Pokémon are there?" Valeria asks, her curiosity now fully piqued.

"Over 1000 distinct species," Orion replies, his eyes twinkling.

Valeria gasps, her mind reeling. A thousand species? I have so much to learn!

She pauses, then pulls out her smartphone. "Can I get your cell number? I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions about Beldum, and I want to be able to reach you if I need help."

Orion smiles, readily agreeing. They exchange numbers, cementing their connection.

Valeria nods, a determined glint in her eyes. "I'll be back," she says, clutching Beldum's Premier Ball tightly in her hand. She turns and strides towards the exit with Beldum by her side, eager to begin her journey as a Pokémon Trainer.

"Goodbye, Miss Richards!"

"Please call me Val."

"Then goodbye, Val. Come again soon!" Orion calls after her, his voice cheerful and knowing.

He watches as Valeria disappears into the bustling city, confident that she will return, ready for her next Pokémon adventure.
