Chapter 4 - Stay back or I'll ruin your dress

Crystal

Everything was fine before the wind blew my scarf away. I was scared, scared of being seen by someone else. The wind was strange; I felt chills in my bones.

But before my face could be seen, my brother pulled his jacket with swift precision and covered my head, protecting me like a shield.

We heard the laugh of many guys, but I couldn't look because I didn't want to be seen. Though I was covered, I was scared, my face is my weakness.

"What was that for?" I heard Luther speak, his voice laced with chill.

"Why do you keep hiding her face, huh? Let us see her face so we will know if she suits our taste for marriage," one of the guys spoke, earning a scoff from my brother.

"My sister is already betrothed, so get your lustful eyes off her," he spat in anger.

"Ah... who would want to marry someone who covers her face like a ghost? Are you sure she doesn't have an ugly scar covering her face, huh?" another one spoke, causing me to clench my fist.

"Don't talk about my sister that way!" Luther spoke. He left my side, and I heard a kick sound followed by a groan.

I raised my head my brother's jacket covering my face properly but I couldn't keep holding it all through.

I began to look around for my veil, but I couldn't find it, and then I heard a voice.

"Looking for this?" It was one of the guys; he held my veil with a smirk.

"Give it back!" I commanded, and he laughed.

"You seem to have a nice voice, but you should be nicer," he said, throwing the veil away. I stared at him in anger. Guys apart from my brothers don't touch my things yet here he was, even tossing it around.

"You animal!" I shouted, running towards him while he watched me like he was watching an ant trying to harm him. I smirked, loving that look on his face. He can't predict my next move, can he?

Of course not!

When I got closer to him, I held Luther's jacket tightly over my face and swept my leg, giving him a solid kick on his ribs, causing him to stumble and fall on the ground in pain. He held his rib area and dared not look up.

"Humph! Serves you right!" I spoke and walked past him. I picked my veil off the ground and dusted it.

Looking back, I saw my brother busy with the other guys. I counted them; there were six of them fighting my brother.

"That's unfair," I muttered under my breath, narrowing my eyes before using the veil to tie Luther's jacket tightly to my face to avoid it falling off.

I began to run toward their direction, ready to kick their asses, but immediately someone stepped in with speed, stopping me. I hit my forehead on a solid chest, making me gasp in pain.

In anger I raised my hand, ready to punch the person, but the person held my hand and I looked at the person.

"It's me," Collin spoke calmly with a smile.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, angry that he had to butt into my affairs.

"I came to help," he said, leaving my hand.

"Stay back I will help Luther," he added, not giving me the chance to reject his offer.

I watched him as he joined my brother, fighting those foolish guys, and within minutes the guys were all knocked down.

I walked toward my brother as I watched him interrogate them. "Who is a mage among you?" he said, and I was shocked a mage in this village?

No one answered. Then it hit me: the wind was not natural; it was targeted to take my veil off. That person must have wished for death before coming!

"Who among you is a mage? Answer the question!" I roared in anger, earning a sidelong look from my brother. I understood that look... He doesn't want me to show my fierce side in the presence of Collin.

I rolled my eyes at the thought. I don't care, anyways.

The guys weren't talking. I scoffed and looked at the weakest, of course he would be the one to succumb to torture and spill the beans.

Raising my leg, I kicked him in the groin area, causing him to shout and writhe in pain. "Answer me, you fool!" I threatened, but he remained quiet. I raised my leg again, ready to kick him, but Luther stopped me.

"Enough, sister! You shouldn't be doing this," he spoke, his tone cold. I raised my eyes and met his displeased stare.

I hated that look itself. Biting my lower lip, I stepped back, giving him space for interrogation.

Looking back at Collin, I could see a both amused and pleased look on his face, but I looked away, rolling my eyes in anger.

Why does he seem pleased?.

I folded my hands on my chest and watched how Luther was torturing and interrogating them, and it was getting boring, so I moved from there and sat on a big stone.

I lowered my gaze, picked a stick from the ground, and began to draw boxes. I was getting bored already. I want to go home now.

Looking to my right, I caught a lady staring at me with a leather bag in her hand. I found it familiar.

Ah... it is mine! and it contained my ball gown, shoe, and mask. What is she doing with it?

"Hey! Bring it here!" I spoke, and she laughed, running off.

"Shit!" I cursed and began to chase her. She was ahead, but in no time I caught her.

"Stay back or I'll ruin your dress," she said, bringing a black substance from her pocket. I recognized it... it was a dye. If she poured it on that dress, it would completely ruin it.

What should I do?

"Give it back!" I spoke in anger, and she smirked.

"Ain't you looking like a monster? Your face wrapped in jacket and veil?" she mocked, and picked my shoe from the leather bag, tossing the bag aside.

"Put it back!" I shot back in anger. I didn't care about her mockery, but what mattered most was the shoe my brother bought for me.

"Why should I?" she replied with an amused laugh. "You see that guy over there?"

She pointed at the same guy I had kicked in the groin area.

"He is my betrothed... If anything serious happens to him... I will make your life miserable," she threatened, making me laugh. Her threat was empty to me.

"Stop being a joker and hand me back my shoe as I am asking nicely," I spoke, not ready for more talk with her.

She moved back and used her teeth to open the bottle faster, her other hand holding my shoes. Immediately the bottle opened, she emptied the black dye on the shoe.

I was shocked. She had just ruined the shoe my brother used his hard earned money to purchase.

The audacity!
