Ruby's POV
The sound of approaching footsteps echoed through the corridor, each step sending my heart racing faster.
"Hurry up and check what that is!" I whispered frantically to Jimmy, my voice barely audible.
"I'm trying my best! But there's no label on this vial. I might need to take it to a lab to analyze what's actually inside."
"Are you kidding me right now, Jimmy? We don't have time for that!"
The footsteps stopped right outside the door. My blood turned to ice. Without thinking, I grabbed the vial and stuffed it deep into Jimmy's jacket pocket, then shoved him toward the open window.
"Get out of here! Now!"
"What about you? I can't just leave you here!"
"They won't hurt me, but if they catch you here, we're both dead. Just go!"
I put every ounce of strength I had into pushing him through the window frame.
