Chapter 170: Wing's Thoughts
Hisoka had already tasted the sweetness of the Nen of the Beyond.
Whether he or Illumi lived or died, both could evolve… And what motivated Hisoka?
To further elevate his Nen, to reach a level even closer to Haze's.
Illumi was merely a stepping stone.
As for Illumi, he was also ambitious for power.
If he awakened the Nen of Death and broke the chains of his potential, his future achievements would far surpass those of ordinary people.
Illumi should have realized Killua's monstrous talent. Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't take long to surpass him…
Illumi had a strong sense of responsibility as the older brother; he felt he could protect his family and the Zoldyck family's reputation… Killua would always be, and could only be, the younger brother.
Thus, he too must seek a way to become stronger.
At his level, and at Hisoka's, each step forward was extremely difficult… Significant improvement was no easy task.
Awakening the Nen of Death was no simple feat… It required both sides in a battle to gradually increase their willpower as the fight progressed, until reaching a peak, and then activating it at the moment of death! Timing and opponent were crucial; it wasn't as simple as fighting just anyone.
It had to be someone of interest, and both sides had to possess incredible ability.
If it was an opponent you didn't care about, even the fiercest battle wouldn't significantly increase your willpower; you'd only get bored.
That's why Hisoka was able to awaken the Nen of Death fighting Chrollo… because he enjoyed it, loved it, was completely immersed in it!
Certain emotions and psychological activities nourished Nen… without them, Nen could not manifest.
They enhanced each other.
At the cost of life… it was extreme, but effective.
Both understood the essence of Nen and mastered its application…
Then, Haze got up and went to find Wing.
…
Upon finding the room where Wing and the others were, Haze knocked on the door.
Soon, the door opened.
Before Haze stood a boy in a small white training uniform, looking very polite and obedient. His eyebrows were thick, with a touch of youthful charm.
Unlike Killua and Gon, who possessed a pure and gentle aura, and Killua, a mischievous little devil…
"Hello, who are you looking for?" Zhixi asked politely, looking at the man in the black suit outside the door.
"You must be Zhixi, Wing's apprentice…"
Haze smiled.
"Oh!"
Seeing that this person seemed to be a friend of her master, Zhixi immediately lowered her fist and bowed respectfully.
Being a friend of her master, she assumed he must be a superior.
" Haze?"
At that moment, Wing also arrived in the hallway, having heard the voice. Seeing Haze, he was surprised.
Although he had been talking about him and mentioning Gon and Killua, he knew Haze was busy with his affairs… He did not expect him to come in person to the Heaven's Arena.
" Haze?" Zhixi's eyes widened, her face full of respect.
She had heard her master and Gon mention this man's name so many times that her ears were hardened… All she understood was that Haze was incredibly, unimaginably powerful.
"Ah! It's Mr. Haze!"
Then, Haze heard Gon's familiar voice of surprise.
Killua, sweating profusely, peeked his head out, his expression darkening upon seeing Haze.
"You've been working hard!"
Haze patted Chihiro's head, entered, and congratulated the sweating Gon as he ran up to him.
"Did I disturb you?"
"No." Gon shook his head.
"The last time at the hotel, I said I would visit again. Did you think I said it lightly…?" Haze entered the room and patted Wing on the shoulder.
Wing smiled faintly.
"How's it going? How much have you two advanced in your training?" Haze sat on the sofa and looked at Gon and Killua.
"Master Wing is teaching us the Nen technique 'Hatsu'," Gon said enthusiastically.
Killua, observing his friend, didn't complain. He clearly noticed that Gon's mood improved significantly upon seeing Haze, emotions shifting differently than with others.
"Show-off," Killua thought.
"Oh, really? What level have you reached? Mind if I check?" Haze asked with a chuckle.
"Yes!" Gon nodded energetically, eager to show Haze his progress.
He called Killua and Chihiro, who were hesitant, and the three lined up. They exchanged glances and began releasing their Nen…
Despite Killua's silence, the white-haired boy seemed to want to show off a bit, impressing others with his rapid progress… After all, even Wing had said his understanding and growth rate were remarkable.
Haze, without his sunglasses, examined the Nen emanating from the three boys.
Indeed… slightly unsettling.
The difference became clear in this comparison… Chihiro's Nen was relatively scattered; though he tried his best to control it, faint traces of his essence still escaped. In contrast, Gon and Killua's Nen showed signs of becoming "viscous," precisely the "density" Nen users referred to during basic training.
Talented Nen users control their Nen more easily, mainly due to their mental strength… Better control reduces leakage, resulting in a fluid state, firmly contained within the body. Simultaneously, the body's biological mechanisms relate to Nen quantity; the more abundant the Nen, the denser it seems… Possessing both qualities results in high Nen density.
This was a very positive phenomenon.
Fundamentally, how long had Gon and Killua been exposed to Nen with Wing?
For an average person, reaching this level would take at least a year… even for someone with natural talent.
After observing for a while, Haze couldn't help but clap, feigning astonishment.
"Truly amazing!"
In reality, he wasn't surprised at all. He knew those two little monsters too well.
"Right?" Wing intervened.
"If they receive proper training and grow, compared to your age when you arrived at the Heaven's Arena, their strength by then will probably be…"
"Hmph! Scared? I told you I have everything planned, and someday we'll manage it!" Killua calmed down, rubbing his nose with his fingers, smiling with pride and satisfaction at Haze's expression.
"Gon and I are very strong, don't underestimate us!"
"Killua…"
Gon let out an awkward giggle.
"What are you talking about?"
Haze looked at the white-haired boy mockingly.
"I was praising Chihiro… Not you. As a member of the Zoldyck family, reaching this level is normal, right? They even consider you the most talented in the family…"
"Impossible! Does that mean you're already satisfied with this level?" Haze's words made Killua blush instantly, and he replied angrily, "I don't think so!"
"I'm glad," Haze nodded.
"You and Gon are special… It's normal to have reached this level of Nen in such a short time. I don't know what Wing told you, but in my opinion, it's far from enough, very far… On the contrary, for someone like Chihiro, the fact that he hasn't fallen behind shows that, at least in terms of effort, he has surpassed you. I admire that mindset more."
Chihiro's face froze. He hadn't expected Haze-senpai to praise him, which made him a bit nervous.
He could only softly utter "Phew!" and bow to Haze in gratitude.
Gon, on the other hand, looked serious and reflected on Haze's words.
After speaking, Haze stood and said to Wing,
"Come on, it's been a while, let's take a walk."
Wing looked at the three little ones in the room, smiled, and waved:
"Don't mind him, keep training."
Then he followed Haze outside.
Upon leaving, Wing hesitated briefly as he closed the door… He looked at Haze.
His eyes, behind the glasses, narrowed.
Although he and Haze had a good relationship… one thing was certain: he did not want Gon and Killua to become someone like Haze.
Therefore… he hoped Haze's thoughts and actions would not influence Gon and Killua.
Otherwise… given the potential these two had shown so far, they could become two more Hazes in the future, which would be… terrible!
He wanted to keep Gon and Killua as far away from his friend as possible.
Relationships are relationships, and feelings are feelings, and Wing felt Biscuit's judgment of Haze was… quite accurate.
Haze… in himself symbolized danger and instability.
