"SCREEEAAAH——!!"

Deep beneath the Bermuda Triangle, inside the undersea temple where Godzilla had been resting, his eyes snapped open. A roar tore out of him and sent the surrounding seawater shuddering.

"Godzilla's awake!"

"Why?"

"No Titan activity detected at any outpost. What's it doing?"

At the Monarch headquarters outpost above the Bermuda Triangle, technicians stared at the instruments as readings spiked without warning. Panic moved through the room in a wave.

What the hell woke this thing up?

In the dim glow of the seabed, Godzilla lowered his head and looked at the temple floor beneath him. His dorsal fins began to light up, one by one. Something was drawing on Hollow Earth energy down below. He recognized the feeling immediately. It was the same as when those apes used to charge their battle-axe.

The hatred of war flooded back in an instant. Right now, every instinct told him to fire an Atomic Breath straight down into the Hollow Earth and find out exactly what was going on.

The Atomic Breath was already building at his throat.

Then he remembered. That giant was down there. And when he left, he took that ape with him. This was probably that guy's doing.

Fine. He doesn't want me involved, so let him sort it out himself. Hmph.

"SCREEEAAAH,, " Godzilla pulled back the Atomic Breath, returned to his altar, curled up, and went back to sleep.

Up above, the technicians watched the readings steady out and exhaled as one.

Good. Nothing went wrong. They'd have had no idea how to explain it to Dr. Serizawa otherwise.

Though... the pressure coming from the military wasn't getting any lighter.

...

Hollow Earth. The Temple of the Titan Giant Apes.

"Huh?" Kong stared at the fully charged battle-axe, turning it over with something close to wonder. So that was how it worked.

The whole thing reminded him of something humans did. They had a word for it, he thought. Charging?

Either way, he finally had a weapon that felt right in his hands. He could feel the difference immediately.

"ROAAAAR,, !"

"ROAAR ROAAR—, !!"

The altar's energy surged. Above, every Hellhawk snapped awake at once. They folded their wings and dove, shrieking, vicious and fast.

Hellhawk.

In the chaos that followed.

"This is it!"

"We found it!" Maia Simmons watched the readings on her instrument shoot upward and felt certainty lock into place. The energy that had charged the battle-axe. This was exactly the precise Hollow Earth energy signature they had been searching for.

She set the instrument down and let it auto-navigate toward the glowing blue pattern on the floor, extracting a sample and transmitting it back to APEX Cybernetics headquarters.

They needed to finish the collection before those Hellhawks finished them.

"I'd suggest you stop." A pistol pressed against the back of her skull. Jared's voice, flat and close.

He had no idea what she was collecting this energy for. But nothing good.

"Well..." Maia Simmons listened to the shriek of diving Hellhawks and didn't turn around. "I'd suggest you worry about yourself first."

"Shit!"

A Hellhawk hit Jared like a freight train. That massive, rot-reeking beak was wide open, close enough to swallow his head whole. He threw himself sideways, hit the ground rolling, and tore a grenade off his jacket. Tossed it straight into the Hellhawk's open mouth.

BOOM!

"SCREEEAAAH,, !"

The Hellhawk's skull cracked open in a burst of blood and bone. It toppled sideways, twitching.

Maia Simmons used the distraction to shout orders at her soldiers and sprint for the aircraft.

"Move! Get out of here!" Old De swept his rifle in a wide arc, driving the nearest Hellhawks back, yelling at Jared on the ground.

Hellhawks closed in from every side. One of them spotted Jared still down and locked on, lunging with its beak snapping.

"SCREEEAAAH,, !"

SHING!

Kong's hand came down. The charged battle-axe split the Hellhawk clean in two. Innards and dark green blood sprayed across the stone floor.

"ROOOAAAARR, , !!" Kong glared at the flock still circling low and let the sound rip out of him. A warning. Back off.

The Hellhawks didn't care. They had claimed this temple. A dozen of them peeled out of the flock and came straight at him.

"Tenacious little things." Maia Simmons reached the aircraft's edge and looked back. Several of her soldiers were already gone, swallowed whole. She weighed her options with a frown.

She wasn't sure yet whether she was going to make it out.

"ROOOAAAARR, , !!"

"ROAR ROAR! ROAR ROAR! ROAAR!!!"

The roars came from the temple entrance. Deep, layered, massive.

Skar King appeared in the archway, riding a giant beast, surrounded by a wall of Titan Giant Apes.

The beast he rode was pure white. It looked like an enormous white lizard, walking on all fours, blue crystals jutting from its spine like dorsal fins. Its snow-white scales caught the light and threw faint prismatic color across the stone walls. And it carried an aura that simply dominated everything around it.

Shimo. Ancient Titan. Crawling height: 162 meters. Weight: 150,000 tons.

Skar King's gaze swept the temple, vicious and slow. It landed on the Hellhawks. He raised one arm and pointed.

The Titan Giant Apes didn't need a second signal. They surged forward as one, weapons raised, crashing into the Hellhawks like a breaking wave.

Every human in the temple went still.

"Those are Kong's kind?"

"Lord... they're something else."

"We're saved!" Jared watched dozens of Titan Giant Apes flood through the entrance. The Hellhawks had been a genuine threat minutes ago, harassing Kong with sheer numbers. Now they were just prey. The Titan Giant Apes leaped and snatched two at a time out of the air, gripped them with both hands, and tore them apart. Then they opened their mouths wide and ate. Blood, flesh, innards. A long-overdue meal, by the looks of it.

"Wait. Nobody moves." Maia Simmons kept her eyes on Skar King, still blocking the exit, and held up a fist. Her soldiers froze.

She wasn't about to risk her people getting caught in the crossfire with a temple full of Titan Giant Apes.

"ROAR...!" Kong watched them fight. Fierce, fast, fearless. Something lit up behind his eyes.

This was it. These were the ones he'd been looking for.

They came for him.

He had finally... finally found his family.

"ROAAR ROAAR!" The blood roared through him. He tightened his grip on the battle-axe. Then he launched himself forward and threw himself into the hunt alongside his kin.
