Ava felt a sense of belonging wash over her as she met the pack members and began to feel more at ease. Lena showed her around the den, introducing her to the others and explaining the pack's dynamics. Ava was surprised by how welcoming and kind they were, and she found herself laughing and smiling in their presence.
But as the evening wore on, Ava's thoughts turned to her mother. She missed her and worried about how she must be feeling. "Ryker, I need to tell my mom I'm okay," Ava said, her voice tinged with concern.
Ryker's expression turned serious. "I've taken care of that," he said. "I've cast a spell to let them know you're safe and...married."
Ava's eyes widened. "Married?" she repeated.
Ryker nodded. "It's the only way to keep them from searching for you. They'll believe you're with your husband now, and they won't bother you again."
Ava's mind reeled. Married? She hadn't agreed to that. But as she looked into Ryker's eyes, she saw the sincerity there. He'd done it to protect her.
"Thank you," she said, her voice soft.
Ryker's gaze locked onto hers, and for a moment, Ava felt like she was drowning in the depths of his eyes. "You're my mate, Ava," he said. "I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."
Ava's heart skipped a beat. Mate. Marriage. It was all happening so fast. But as she looked at Ryker, she felt a sense of belonging she couldn't ignore.
