Mephisto's crimson eyes darted in desperation, his once-grand aura collapsing beneath the crushing weight of Soren's power.
"Soren wait!" He shouted, his voice trembling despite his effort to keep it regal. "I will leave this world! I swear upon the abyss itself, I'll never return!"
"Just… let me go!"
Soren's expression didn't waver.
"Mephisto… I told you, if you dared set foot in this world again, I would follow you into the abyss itself and burn your true body where it hides. Did you think I was joking?"
Mephisto's lips twisted into a crooked, hollow grin. "Heh… Jie jie jie…"
"You can destroy this fragment of me, but my true form will remember. The pain you inflict on this body~" his voice dropped into a hiss "Will return to you tenfold."
"Do you really think I don't know what you've left behind here?" Soren said, his tone turning sharp.
"The Contract of San Venganza isn't your only tether to this world. You left something else… something far more personal."
Mephisto froze.
"A child," Soren continued. "Born from the union of a demon and a human. Your last connection to this plane."
For the first time in eons, true fear flickered in the abyssal lord's eyes. The confident sneer was gone…
In the endless wars of the abyss, Mephisto had faced horrors that would have shattered lesser beings. He had clawed his way from nothingness, devoured rivals, and ascended to rule his plane.
Soren's words pressed down like the weight of eternity itself.
"Don't worry," Soren said softly, each word deliberate. "I won't harm your son."
"But I will find him. And when I do, I'll sever your last tie to this world. You will never touch the mortal realm again."
He raised the Contract of San Venganza, the infernal parchment glowing faintly in his hand. "Once I've cleansed everything you've left here, I'll come to the abyss myself."
"Then we'll have our final conversation."
The faint smirk on Mephisto's face died completely.
His red eyes widened as he felt Soren channeling power, through the contract, through the Space Gem, through the very fabric of creation. The connection between realms trembled as Soren locked onto Mephisto's essence… his true essence across the planes.
"Wait!"
Soren waved a hand.
Mephisto's body disintegrated into nothingness, his avatar erased utterly. No scream escaped him, even sound refused to exist in that instant.
It was the second time Soren had destroyed his manifestation and this time, Mephisto knew recovery would come at a terrible cost.
With both Blackheart and Mephisto gone, silence returned to San Venganza. The horizon brightened as the first light of dawn spilled over the scorched earth. Sunlight crept across the ruins, washing away the lingering shadows of sin.
The heavy aura of corruption faded, replaced by warmth and color. Ghost Rider's hellfire flickered and died, revealing Johnny Blaze once more, exhausted and human beneath the rising sun.
In his arms, Roxanne remained unconscious, her breath shallow. The demonic corruption left by Blackheart still clung to her soul like poison.
Johnny's voice broke with worry. "Roxanne… come on, wake up…"
But her body was cold, and Soren could see the dark miasma twisting beneath her skin. The corruption of a high demon wasn't something a mortal body could withstand for long.
If they didn't act soon, she wouldn't survive the hour.
"Please, save her!"
Johnny cradled Roxanne in his arms, her body cold.
He looked up at the man who had just slain both Blackheart and Mephisto as though swatting shadows. The name alone stirred something in Johnny's memory. Soren... the Savior.
There was no time to think. Only hope.
Soren stepped closer, his gaze softening as he looked upon Roxanne. Johnny's pleading eyes said everything words could not.
"Take her," Soren said simply. "Follow me. I can help her."
Relief washed over Johnny like rain after fire. He lifted Roxanne into his arms, holding her close. Before he could even take a breath, Soren raised a hand, space itself shimmered and folded around them like rippling glass.
In the blink of an eye, the ruins of San Venganza vanished.
They reappeared within a vast, white expanse bathed in light, the Hall of Healing, the legendary sanctuary that answered only to Soren's will.
Johnny staggered, his eyes wide. His motorcycle, impossibly, stood beside him, teleported effortlessly through reality itself.
"What in the…" he started, but the words faltered on his lips. The air itself thrummed with life. Every breath carried warmth, every heartbeat steadied.
Soren stood at the center of the room, his eyes glowing faintly with golden light. "Just watch."
A luminous current rose from the marble floor, flowing around Roxanne's body like ribbons of starlight. The infernal corruption within her flared, screaming in resistance.
The demonic taint twisted, black and violent… but it was no match for the divine energy pouring from Soren's touch.
Within seconds, the darkness melted away like frost under the morning sun.
Roxanne's color returned, her breathing steadied. The grey pallor of death faded from her skin.
She stirred.
Her lashes fluttered open, her voice weak but clear. "...Johnny?"
Johnny froze, tears springing unbidden to his eyes. "Roxanne, oh, thank God!"
He caught her in his arms, holding her as though she might vanish again. "You're safe now. It's over. You're safe."
Roxanne blinked, dazed. "Where… where am I? The demon…"
"It's gone," Johnny said softly, brushing her hair from her face.
"All of it. Thanks to him." He turned toward Soren, his voice trembling with awe. "It was Soren who saved you."
Roxanne followed Johnny's gaze.
Soren stood silently in the glow of his healing aura, the light still fading from his hands.
For a long moment, Roxanne could only look at him, her heart full of gratitude too deep for words.
"Thank you, Soren!"
Roxanne's voice trembled. Even as a hardened foreign correspondent for The New York Times, she could not hide her excitement.
She had chased stories across war zones and underworlds, but standing before the man of miracles, was beyond anything she'd witnessed.
Soren merely waved a hand dismissively. "There's no need for thanks." His calm eyes turned to Johnny. "I've healed your girlfriend. Now, it's time to heal you."
Johnny blinked, taken aback. "Me? But I'm not~"
Soren interrupted softly, "You are. Not in body, but in soul."
His voice deepened, echoing faintly with a power that made the air itself hum. "I can break the bond Mephisto forged with you, free you from his control, while allowing you to keep your power."
"But…" He paused. "There will be a price. A task you must complete for me. Consider it your consultation fee."
For a heartbeat, Johnny said nothing. Then the meaning of Soren's words sank in.
Freedom.
Ever since he signed that cursed contract to save his father, Mephisto's shadow had followed him everywhere. His father still died.
His soul was shackled. His love, nearly lost. To be free of that devil's leash, it was all he'd ever wanted.
"I'm willing," Johnny said instantly, without hesitation. His eyes burned with raw determination. "Name it."
"Good." Soren's lips curved faintly into a smile.
He raised a hand, and a faint golden light gathered at his fingertips. When it touched Johnny's chest, the Ghost Rider flinched… not from pain, but from the sudden rush of warmth spreading through him.
It was as though years of darkness were being pulled out of his bones and replaced by light. The infernal mark that bound him to Mephisto shimmered, then broke apart like dust in the wind.
Johnny gasped. The invisible chains that had haunted him for years were gone.
When he looked down, even the scars that once marred his skin had vanished. He flexed his hands in disbelief. "You… you really did it."
Soren's smile deepened. "For now, I've only silenced the demon's influence. You'll retain the fire, but you'll control it, not the other way around."
"As for your task…" His tone grew grave.
Johnny listened intently.
"You heard my exchange with Mephisto," Soren continued.
"He has a son, a half-human vessel born from his union with a mortal woman. That boy carries the blood of the abyss. If Mephisto reaches him, he can use the child as a bridge to descend fully into this world."
"When that happens, every infernal gate will open."
Johnny's expression hardened. "So that's his plan, to use his own son as a doorway to hell."
Soren nodded. "He needs a ritual. A time of convergence."
"I don't know how long we have, but not long enough to be careless. Your task is to find the boy before Mephisto does. Protect him."
"Bring him to my hospital. My magic can seal his demonic bloodline before it's too late."
Johnny clenched his fists, the familiar fire of purpose returning to his chest. "Understood. I'll find him and keep him safe. You have my word."
Soren regarded him for a moment, then nodded. "If you encounter something you can't handle, call out my name. The void will carry your voice to me."
Johnny didn't fully understand what that meant, but he didn't need to. He'd seen enough to believe.
He turned to Roxanne, who stood watching quietly.
"I'll be back soon," he said, brushing her hair aside. "There's one last thing I need to finish."
Soren watched them go, silent and thoughtful. The faintest trace of a smile touched his lips.
After Johnny and Roxanne left the hospital, Soren extended his hand briefly, feeling the lingering echo of Ghost Rider's power. Curious, he thought.
Even partially freed, the fire of Hell obeys him. Once he completes his task, I'll be able to safely extract his full ability.
Outside, night fell once more.
Across the wide plains, a streak of fire cut through the darkness, the Ghost Rider reborn, riding like a comet.
Johnny's engine roared, flames trailing behind him as he followed the pulse only he could feel, the heartbeat of a frightened boy carrying the blood of a devil.
He gritted his teeth. Mephisto's already making his move.
