Chapter 52 - Chapter 45 Savage Tribe

Toren and the other Guards nervously surrounded Lynn, at a loss.

They watched as Lynn's skin turned crimson, his veins bulging like earthworms beneath his skin, and his entire body radiated a terrifying heat.

"Sir! Are you alright? Should we get Maester Aemon?"

Toren was sweating profusely with worry.

"I'm fine."

Lynn slowly opened his eyes, a terrifying glint flashing within them.

"Sir, you..."

Toren looked at the now normal Lynn, his face filled with surprise and doubt.

Lynn did not answer.

He simply stood up and walked over to a dead pine tree nearby that required two people to embrace.

Then, Lynn took a deep breath, clenched his fist, and punched it!

"Bang!"

A dull, teeth-grating thud.

Lynn retracted his fist.

On the tree trunk, a shallow fist print was clearly visible, surrounded by fine cracks.

"It seems that this attribute point still provides a very significant boost to strength."

Lynn thought to himself.

Toren and the surrounding Guards' eyes nearly popped out.

What... what was going on?

They were all elite soldiers of the North, and they considered themselves quite strong.

But even with all their might, they could at most leave a small scratch on a tree.

Yet, Lord Lynn's punch clearly surpassed theirs!

Moreover, Lord Lynn hadn't been this formidable in the training grounds a few days ago.

Could he have been holding back?

Their awe deepened.

Lynn stretched his body, feeling the unprecedented surge of power, and his mood was ecstatic.

"Strength: 6 (28%)"

Just one herb had allowed his Strength attribute to directly break through its bottleneck.

It even came with nearly a third of the progress bar filled.

This Haunted Forest was simply a treasure trove!

It was a pity, however, that Maester Aemon said that after consuming frostheart grass, its effectiveness would be greatly reduced upon subsequent consumption.

However, using it to enhance the strength of loyal subordinates also seemed like a good option.

After all, the stronger they were, the greater their ability to gain experience.

This indirectly amounted to improving himself.

"Clean this place up, we're moving on."

Lynn's voice carried an irrepressible excitement.

"Sir, still... still moving on?"

Toren hesitated slightly.

"We've already gone nearly thirty miles deep into the Haunted Forest. Further ahead, we might encounter a Wildling Tribe."

"Isn't that perfect?" Lynn grinned.

That smile, in Toren's eyes, was more dangerous than any beast in the Haunted Forest.

"Sir, but..."

"No buts, Toren."

Lynn clapped him heavily on the shoulder as usual, the force making Toren stumble and almost lose his balance.

Lynn quickly grabbed him.

Feeling embarrassed, Lynn also quickly said,

"What are we here for? We're here to hunt."

"Since it's hunting, of course, we have to find big prey."

Lynn's gaze swept towards the depths of the forest.

His eyes were like a hungry wolf that had caught the scent of blood.

"These small ones aren't enough to fill our bellies."

Toren swallowed, looking at the mad battle intent in Lynn's eyes.

He didn't know what his Lord had just experienced.

But he knew that the Lord now was stronger than ever before.

"Yes, Sir!"

Toren stopped trying to persuade him and responded loudly.

He turned and yelled at the other Guards:

"What the hell are you all staring at! Pack up, prepare to move out!"

The Guards were startled awake by Toren's shout and quickly began to move.

The team set off again.

Lynn rode on his horse, feeling the power surging within his body.

He felt that the effect of the frostheart grass was even better than he had imagined.

This filled him with anticipation for this unknown forest.

Since there was the first frostheart grass here, there must be a second, and a third!

He wanted to become strong, stronger than anyone else!

He also wanted to make his subordinates stronger!

Only then could he truly control his own destiny on this chaotic continent.

And not be like a pawn, at the mercy of those so-called nobles and kings.

The team advanced another ten miles or so.

Dusk gradually fell.

The light in the forest grew dim, and the surrounding tree shadows began to stretch out like monsters.

The scout responsible for reconnoitering ahead galloped back.

"Sir!"

The scout's face held a hint of tension and excitement.

"Ahead... there's a big discovery ahead!"

Lynn raised an eyebrow.

"Speak."

"Five miles ahead, there's a valley."

"In the valley... it seems there's a Wildling Tribe!"

The scout swallowed.

"It's a large scale, I took a quick look, at least a hundred tents!"

A hundred tents!

This number made everyone's breath catch.

Beyond the Wall, a hundred tents meant roughly three hundred to five hundred Wildlings.

Among them, men capable of wielding weapons and fighting should number at least over two hundred.

And Lynn's group only had a hundred men.

Although they were well-equipped, well-trained Northern elites.

But facing an enemy twice their size, and on their home ground, this was undoubtedly an extremely dangerous gamble.

"Sir?"

Toren's face showed caution.

"Should we... retreat first?"

"Take the news back to Castle Black and let Lord Commander Mormont send a large force?"

This was no longer a scale that their hundred-man squad could handle.

Charging in would be no different from suicide.

The other Guards also turned their gaze to Lynn.

They weren't afraid of fighting, but they didn't want to die in vain.

"Retreat?" Lynn smiled.

His gaze swept across the face of every Guard.

"Why retreat?"

"Toren, tell me, what are we?"

Toren paused, then subconsciously replied,

"We are Lord Stark's Guards, soldiers of the North."

"No."

Lynn shook his head.

"We are hunters now."

"And those Wildlings in the valley ahead are our prey."

"Are you scared?"

No one answered.

But their tightly gripped weapons and tensed bodies said it all.

"It's right to be scared."

Lynn's voice suddenly softened.

"Facing an enemy twice your size, if you weren't scared, that would be foolish."

"However, you must remember."

Lynn's gaze sharpened.

"We are not like them."

"They are just a bunch of savages with stones and bones."

"And we!"

Lynn pointed to himself, then to their iron armor and steel swords.

"We are warriors from the civilized world!"

"We have sharp weapons, sturdy armor, strict discipline, and... a brain smarter than all of theirs combined."

Lynn pointed to his temple.

That powerful confidence, as if by magic, dispelled much of the fear in the Guards' hearts.

"Sir, you mean..."

Toren asked tentatively.

"We're not going to fight them head-on."

"We're going to use our brains to defeat them."

"Now, everyone dismount and follow me."

Lynn handed his horse to a few Guards to watch, then led Toren and the other squad leaders to stealthily approach the valley.

They climbed the ridge on one side of the valley, hiding behind a dense grove of black pines, and looked down.

The sight before them made everyone gasp.

In the valley, hundreds of crude tents made of animal hides and dry bones were densely pitched.

Numerous bonfires burned between the tents, sending up thick smoke.

Groups of Wildlings, men, women, and children, gathered around the bonfires.

Some were butchering game, some were sharpening weapons, and some children were chasing and playing in the snow.

The entire valley was like a chaotic anthill.

Noisy shouts, women's laughter and curses, children's cries, all mingled and echoed through the valley.

"My god..."

A young Guard's voice trembled.

"There... there are at least five hundred people here!"

"More than that."

Lynn's gaze fell on the largest, most ornate tent in the center of the valley.

That tent was sewn from a complete giant bear hide.

At the tent's entrance, the skull of an unknown beast hung.

Several exceptionally burly Wildlings, with blood-red totems painted on their bodies, stood guard at the tent's entrance, holding long spears.

Clearly, that was the dwelling of the tribe's leader.

"This is a medium-sized tribe."

Lynn's tone was calm.

"To be able to support so many people, their leader must not be a simple character."

Lynn, however, was rapidly calculating in his mind.

Five hundred Wildlings.

If he killed them all, how much experience would that be?

As this thought appeared, Lynn's heart began to pound uncontrollably.

This was a huge crisis.

But at the same time, it was an unprecedented opportunity!

He had to take this tribe!

And since both sides were already in a state of hostility, Lynn had no need to be soft-hearted.

Turning them into experience points was the best outcome for this group of Wildlings.

"Sir, what do we do now?"

Toren's voice pulled Lynn's thoughts back.

"Wait."

Lynn uttered a single word.

"Wait?"

"Yes, wait until dark."

Lynn's gaze quickly swept over the entire terrain of the valley.

The valley had only one narrow exit.

On either side were steep mountain walls.

This was a place that was easy to defend and difficult to attack.

But at the same time, it was also a perfect trap.

"Toren, you need to do a few things immediately."

Lynn lowered his voice and began to issue commands.

"First, have the archers prepare all our poisoned arrows."

"The poison on the arrowheads must be doubled in concentration; use up all the remaining paralyzing poison!"

"Second, send a team to the valley's exit to set up traps for me. The more, the better; the more concealed, the better."

"Dig pits, bury spikes, set snares, use every method you can think of."

"Third, have everyone eat a hearty meal and get plenty of rest."

Lynn's eyes glowed astonishingly in the darkness.

"Because tonight, we're going to pull off something big."
