Chapter 50 - The Beginning of the End

Inside the Head Representative's office of the Polar Town Cornerstone Corporation business complex, the visibly distraught man sat uncomfortably in his chair behind his wooden desk.

He tried to take his mind off of his worries by scrimming through the lengthy amounts of paperwork before him, but it did not seem like it was helping as he sighed in frustration and held his head in his hands.

What the fuck is happening? he questioned, baffled by the recent events that occurred.

Last night, his secretary had called him about having a lead in the classified Magical Beast Girl search. On hearing the minute details about a close associate spotting an unusual sight while she was saved in the alleyway, he rejoiced, and excitement couldn't get any higher.

Then only several minutes later, the man had called again, only to be cut off instantly as he yelled for help.

After sensing danger, the Head Representative tried to call him back, but on seeing that it was to no avail, he quickly notified the police. An urgent search party was quickly set in motion due to a bribe, and the streets of Polar town were occasionally patrolled by officers with their vehicles.

Still, with the large size of the city and limited officers on duty, the search was paused within a few hours and it was scheduled to resume early in the morning.

Now, with investigations still ongoing today, the man at the table named Paul Liam groaned, fidgeting as he hoped that his partner was safe.

Still…

Something ain't right.

Several minutes after he had mentioned about having a lead to the Magical Beast Girl's whereabouts, he had been attacked.

Could it have been a weird coincidental occurrence of foul play, or…

Could he have been attacked by…? Fuck, this is why I always told him not to get into troublesome situations by himself! I should have been with him!

He clicked his tongue and slammed his right clenched fist onto the table with a bang!

Suddenly, the phone at the desk rang, and he reluctantly picked it up, switching to his gentle, formal tone as if nothing happened.

"Hello, MBCC here. How can I help you toda-"

"Paul Liam."

"-hk."

A chilling sensation overwhelmed him, and his hairs stood up as he froze, unable to comprehend the dark, masculine voice that spoke.

At a time like this…he had answered, and now Paul had to answer every question diligently, without mistaking anything that could arouse suspicion.

"S-Sir…yes. Um, good day."

"Good day to you too. I believe that the Polar Town branch is doing well with its improved security measure? You know, which had to be implemented due to the last break-in?"

The man's rough, interrogating voice kept Paul uneasy, but he did his best to force a fake persona of being confident as he answered.

"To be honest, sir, the break-in was very minimal, and nothing truly valuable was taken. But yes, we have improved our security, and we are now one hundred percent sure that nobody will be able to get in uninvited."

"Hmph. Very well."

This response caused Paul to loosen his guard, but he immediately reclaimed it when the man spoke again with a harsher tone."

"Status report on The Heavenly Project."

"U-Uh, yes sir…."

His heart began to race, and he quickly held his breath as his voice showed a tinge of doubt. He gulped, and continued, bracing for the worst as he had to lie in this instance.

"The Heavenly-Tier Magical Beast has successfully been transported through the Warehouse Scanning Facility and has been checked for stable vitals. We can deem it as almost ready for forcible hatching."

If he had mentioned that the special project was ready to go, then there was a high chance that this dreaded man would want to meet in person to see it himself. He had to stall the report of the successful final results to him so that they could recapture what was stolen in Polar Town.

"Almost?"

"Yes, sir. The Beast still needs more time, but it has been successfully transported back to our secret underground research facility. I believe that by the time we need to file our October monthly report to you at the main base, it should be ready."

"The end of October? Isn't that a month away?"

"With all due respect, sir, I-I understand that what you desire needs to be done quickly, but…if we are too hasty, we will fail like last time."

He could hear a disappointed exhale from him and expected the worst, but…

"Fine. You guys have until the end of October, or the main base will take this into our own hands."

"Yes, sir. I understand, sir, and thank you."

With a huge burden lifted from his shoulders, Paul slowly slumped back as the Polar Town branch now had one extra month to retrieve the Magical Beast Girl in time.

"Also, Paul."

"Sir?"

"How is the…other side of that project coming along?"

"Oh, it's going fantastic. If everything goes well with the Shinigami Soldiers' mission to the Paradisus Legion, we should have a much faster completion time than the previous Magical Beast."

"Kukuku. That's what I like to hear. With the criminal organization known as the Shinigami Soldiers at our side instead of the usual police force or the Magical Beast Raiders, we don't have to worry much about ethics and collateral. They can die for our cause when the first of November comes along."

"I agree, sir."

"Alright, then. Take care of yourself, Paul, and don't disappoint me further in one month's time. Remember…this will change the Magical Beast society as we know it, and it's about time we melt this entire snowflake generation."

Before Paul Liam could respond, the man had hung up.

The Magical Beast Society as we know it, huh?

***

The tall, bulky, masculine figure remained shrouded in darkness. No light shone on his face, hiding his facial features.

After placing the phone down on the dimly lit desk in front of him, he chuckled silently.

The legendary Magical Beast egg that lay dormant in the heart of the Paradisus Legion within the Dungeon State….

…would soon awaken.

"Please look forward to your birth, Kinen..."

....And may God plead for the lives of those who will dare to stand against you.
