Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: First Mission

And so, Yamabuki spent the entire night agonizing over whether he was a Shinigami or a Quincy, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Finally, just as he was about to drift off, the door to his room was suddenly kicked open with great force. Yamabuki instinctively turned and drew his sword, only to find that it was Yamamoto who had kicked the door.

"Hmm! Good vigilance. You haven't relaxed because of the comfortable environment," Yamamoto nodded, saying with satisfaction. Then, his gaze towards Yamabuki was a bit strange. How had this kid's spiritual pressure increased overnight?

One must know that increasing a Shinigami's spiritual pressure is not a simple matter; otherwise, Captain-level Shinigami would be everywhere in the Soul Society.

There are many ways to increase spiritual pressure: get more rest, eat more, fight more, and communicate more with your Zanpakuto. Over time, spiritual pressure will naturally increase slowly.

But Shinigami have limits. No matter how high a Shinigami's talent, once they reach this limit, they will not continue to improve. To break through this limit, they must break the inherent boundaries of a Shinigami. The most representative example is Aizen.

However, Yamamoto had never seen anyone whose spiritual pressure could increase just by sleeping. Yamabuki noticed Head Captain Yamamoto staring intently at him and felt a surge of panic. Had the Old Man discovered his Quincy identity?

"What time is it and you're still sleeping in? Get up and train with me!" Although Yamamoto was surprised, he didn't show it on his face. After all, there are many geniuses in this world, and many are defeated by their own arrogance.

Yamabuki's speculation about his identity was just a guess. If he really was a Quincy, why would the system give him a Zanpakuto?

Little did he know, the reishi density in the Soul Society far exceeded that of the Human World. Ordinary Shinigami, as long as they stayed in the Soul Society, even if they did nothing, their spiritual pressure would slowly increase over time until it reached their personal limit.

And Yamabuki's growth potential was "infinite," so his spiritual pressure increased much faster than ordinary Shinigami, which led to the constant absorption of reishi.

Yamabuki, gripping his sword and yawning, followed Yamamoto to the training grounds in the backyard. It was still early, and there were only the two of them on the training ground.

What would Head Captain Yamamoto teach him? Swordsmanship? Shunpo? Kido? Hakuda? Ways to increase spiritual pressure?

Yamabuki was still imagining things when he saw Yamamoto walk over with a sinister smile: "It looks like you didn't sleep too well last night! It's alright, if you can't endure the training later, you'll sleep very soundly, and you'll never wake up!"

Hearing Yamamoto's words, Yamabuki suddenly sobered up. What was this Old Man going to do? Why was he saying such dangerous things?

Yamamoto drew his Zanpakuto, and a terrifying spiritual pressure instantly surged forth.

"Today, I will teach you the first lesson: how to survive under a strong person's sword! All things in the universe turn to ashes, Ryūjin Jakka!"

Only then did Yamabuki realize what this troublesome Old Man was going to do: "Wait a minute, wait a minute, Captain! Give me some preparation..."

"Take this!!!"

"Yamete!!!"

"Boom!!!!!"

...

At breakfast, Shihōin Chika couldn't help but let out a "Pffft" of laughter as he watched Yamabuki, who was charred black and walked like a zombie.

"You're still... you're still laughing... I almost died!" Yamabuki opened his mouth and exhaled a puff of black smoke.

I'm still a child! A Ryūjin Jakka that big coming down on my head, do you know how much psychological trauma that causes a teenager?

However, Yamamoto didn't actually go for the kill; otherwise, one strike would have left nothing but ashes of Yamabuki.

Yamamoto sat calmly nearby, eating: "Hurry and eat. We have something to do after breakfast. Someone reported a Hollow discovery in Rukongai. Go investigate."

"Me alone?" Yamabuki asked.

"Of course, you alone. We don't have enough manpower right now," Yamamoto said.

Yamabuki sighed helplessly. Was joining the Gotei 13 really the right choice?

After eating, Yamabuki grabbed his sword and headed for Rukongai.

Rukongai is divided into four large districts: East, South, West, and North. Each large district is further subdivided into eighty districts, and the main Shinigami story takes place in the eastern part of Rukongai.

This time, the Hollow appeared in Mount Li Fu, in the northern section of West District 3, which is relatively close to the Seireitei. Of course, with only four people in the Gotei 13 currently, they couldn't manage places too far away.

Yamabuki wasn't too nervous. With his Vice-Captain-level strength, dealing with an ordinary Hollow was more than enough. After eating, he immediately rushed to Mount Li Fu.

The higher the number in Rukongai, the more chaotic the public order; the lower the number, the more stable life is and the more abundant the resources. As West District 3, Mount Li Fu's ordinary residents lived quite well. However, when Yamabuki arrived at Mount Li Fu, he found that every household had their doors and windows shut, and no one dared to go out.

The atmosphere on the streets was desolate. Yamabuki gently knocked on the door of a house. After a long while, an old woman cautiously opened the door a crack, looking at Yamabuki with slightly frightened eyes.

"Excuse me, is there something you need?" The old woman looked at Yamabuki's decent clothes and the Zanpakuto he carried, very nervous, perhaps mistaking Yamabuki for a noble.

Yamabuki said, "I am from the Gotei 13. I came to Mount Li Fu specifically to slay Hollows."

The old woman looked at Yamabuki in confusion: "Gotei 13? Never heard of it! I don't know anything, don't come looking for me."

With that, the old woman quickly closed the door. Yamabuki, having been given the cold shoulder, did not give up and continued to the next house.

The result was the same response from several houses in a row. These people seemed to be terrified by the Hollows, or perhaps they were usually oppressed by the nobles of the Seireitei. Most people didn't dare to speak to Yamabuki, and some didn't even dare to open their doors, only daring to watch Yamabuki leave through the door crack.

Yamabuki fell into deep thought. This wouldn't do! Having grown up under the red flag, he understood how powerful the strength of the masses was.

The Hollow didn't show up, and Mount Li Fu was so big, where could he find it?

Just as Yamabuki was at a loss, a barefoot child timidly walked over and asked, "Excuse me, are you a noble?"

Yamabuki said gently, "I am not a noble. I am a Shinigami of the Gotei 13, specially here to slay Hollows!"

Although the child didn't know what the "Gotei 13" was, he was excited when he heard Yamabuki say he was here specifically to slay Hollows. He said, "Then can you help me get Hanako back? She was taken by a Hollow. If you are willing to help me get Hanako back, I will give you all the money I have!"
