Chapter 93: Prologue to the Sky
Grand Line - Marine Warship
The sea sparkled under the bright sun as a small Marine warship cut through the waves.
In the center of the deck, a group of young people were sitting in a circle, engaged in a "spirited debate"—which is to say, they were all shouting at once.
"Who do you think Big Bro Roy is taking us to fight this time?"
Luffy's eyes were sparkling, punching the air. "Is it a pirate with a billion-Beri bounty?! Or maybe we're finally fighting Kaido?!"
Ace slapped him on the back of the head. "Idiot! He's not just going to take us to fight Kaido on a whim!"
"Ouch!" Luffy rubbed his head. "Doesn't mean we can't challenge him!"
Zoro, leaning against the railing and spinning a sword hilt in his hand, yawned. "I don't care who it is. As long as I get to cut something."
Kuina rolled her eyes, arms crossed. "Is 'cut' the only word in your vocabulary? Try using your brain for once."
Zoro scowled. "Tch. Mind your own business."
Law sat quietly nearby, flipping through a thick medical text, a faint smile on his lips as he listened to the bickering.
Just then, the cabin door clicked open. Roy walked out, holding a sea chart, a mysterious smile on his face.
"Hey, Big Bro Roy!"
Luffy was the first to jump up. "Where are we going?! Who are we fighting?!"
Ace leaned in, eyes bright. "Is it the New World? I heard there are tons of strong guys there!"
Zoro and Kuina looked over, and even Law put down his book.
Roy didn't answer directly. Instead, he slowly raised a finger and pointed straight up at the blue sky.
"This time, I'm taking you... to the sky."
"HUH?!"
"WHAT?!"
"Where did you say?!"
Luffy and Ace's jaws dropped.
"How do we go to the sky?!" Luffy scratched his head. "We're not birds!"
"You're not going to throw us up there, are you?" Ace backed away. "No way. I don't want to be seagull food."
"Use your brains, you two," Kuina sighed, rubbing her temples.
Zoro stared up. " The sky?"
Law, thoughtful, suddenly looked up. "The sky... Big Bro Roy, do you mean a Sky Island?"
Everyone looked at him.
"Sky Island?" Kuina asked. "You mean the legends about islands floating on clouds?"
"Mhm," Law nodded. "I read about it in an old book at the library. There are currents called the 'Knock Up Stream' that can shoot islands into the air, creating civilizations in the sky."
"WOOOOAAAAH!!!"
"A SKY ISLAND?!" Luffy and Ace screamed in unison, eyes twinkling. "FOR REAL?! THERE ARE ISLANDS IN THE SKY?!"
Zoro actually looked interested. "An island on the clouds... interesting."
Roy nodded, smiling. "That's right. Our destination is the legendary Sky Island—Skypiea!"
"AWESOME!!!" Luffy and Ace started running in circles. "SKY ISLAND! SKY ISLAND!"
Zoro gripped his sword. "Above the clouds... there must be strong fighters there."
Kuina sighed. "Can you guys calm down?"
Roy laughed. "Alright, quiet down!"
"They say there are islands that float, oceans made of clouds, and weapons technology we've never seen before."
"I CAN'T WAIT TO EAT CLOUD MEAT!!" Luffy roared, fists in the air.
Ace looked at Roy. "But, Big Bro... how do we get up there?"
"Don't worry," Roy waved the map, a sly grin on his face. "I've prepared a 'stairway to heaven.'"
After sailing for a while, the ship came to a stop in a patch of calm sea.
Roy stood at the bow, checking the map against the sky.
"Hmm... should be around here," he muttered, squinting up at the layers of clouds.
Law and Kuina, sensing something was about to happen, exchanged a look and immediately grabbed onto the railing and the mast.
"Hey, why are you two so tense?" Zoro asked, confused.
Ace and Luffy walked over. "Big Bro Roy, why'd we stop?" Luffy asked, tilting his head.
Roy's lips curled into a devilish grin. He took a deep breath and shouted—
"Hold on to your butts, kids! Here we go!"
"Huh?" Before Ace, Luffy, and Zoro could react—
"FWOOSH!!!"
The entire warship vanished from the sea!
"WAAAAAAHHHHH—!!!"
A massive sensation of weightlessness hit them. The deck dropped out from under their feet!
When they opened their eyes, the ship was thousands of meters in the air, currently in freefall!
"BIG BRO ROY!!! WHAT IS HAPPENING?!!" Ace screamed, hugging the mast, his face pale.
"WE'RE GONNA DIEEE!!" Luffy was flailing his limbs, flapping like a flag in the wind.
Zoro was flat on the deck, clawing at the wood, screaming, "GIVE US A WARNING NEXT TIME!!!"
Roy stood in the center of the deck, laughing maniacally, unaffected. Before they could even process the terror, he waved his hand again—
"FWOOSH!!!"
The ship warped again, jumping even higher into the sky!
"Urp—!!" Zoro looked green, trying not to vomit.
"Not... not agaiiiiin!!!" Ace and Luffy clung to each other, tears streaming down their faces.
After a series of violent, teleporting jumps, the warship finally—
"BOOM!!!"
...Smashed down onto a soft, white sea of clouds, sending up a massive spray of mist!
The group, battered and dizzy, lay sprawled on the deck, gasping for air.
As the mist cleared, the view took their breath away.
"This... is..."
A vast, white ocean of clouds stretched to the horizon.
Under the blue sky, massive islands floated in the air like fragments of heaven, covered in lush green forests and strange plants. Waterfalls cascaded from higher clouds, refracting rainbows in the sunlight.
Giant "Sky Fish" swam through the air, leaving trails of mist behind them.
"It's... it's really... a Sky Island?!" Ace stammered.
Zoro pulled himself up, still pale. "Big Bro... next time... warn us..."
"I think I'm gonna be sick..." Luffy held his stomach, looking green.
Ace was flat on his back, eyes spinning. "I... I think my soul is still down there..."
Even Law and Kuina looked a little shaken. "That travel method... is a bit rough," Law managed a weak smile.
"Vice Admiral Roy... you're reckless..." Kuina wiped sweat from her brow.
Roy stood at the bow, laughing into the high-altitude wind. "Bwahahaha! Consider it training, brats!!!"
"THAT'S NOT TRAINING!!!" Ace, Luffy, and Zoro roared in unison.
As they caught their breath, Roy pointed into the distance.
"That is Angel Island," he said seriously. "Where the people of the sky live."
They looked. In the distance, a beautiful island floated like a palace in the sky.
"Real... islands in the sky," Ace whispered, awestruck.
"ALRIGHT! SKY MEAT, HERE I COME!!!" Luffy instantly recovered, ready to jump off the ship.
"I heard they fight differently up here... Wonder if my fire works on clouds!" Ace grinned.
"Hmph. Doesn't matter how they fight. I'll cut them all," Zoro said.
Law shook his head. "Can you guys at least figure out who's an enemy first?"
Kuina sighed. "These guys..."
Roy grinned and waved his hand. "Let's go! The Sky Island Adventure begins!!!"
"YEAH!!!"
The warship sailed toward Angel Island. Their arrival was about to shatter the peace of the sky.
