Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: USJ (2)

Students filled the seats, chatting loudly.

Conversations overlapped—quirks, training… the usual chaos.

Momo sat beside Ren, still holding his hand under the shared seat armrest, her fingers curled lightly around his.

She was smiling, talking with Jiro about the upcoming rescue exercise—

—but Ren wasn't listening.

His eyes were fixed on the scenery outside the window.

His reflection stared back at him—gray irises dulled with exhaustion, the faint pressure of his muscles grinding against bone still pulsing beneath the skin.

His thoughts drifted.

'Mom…'

'Please endure. I'm going to find you—'

A voice snapped him out of it.

"Hey, Momo," Kaminari leaned over the seat in front of them. "You and Ren are a couple?"

Momo instantly froze.

Then—bright red.

Ren turned slowly, and this was it—

The perfect opportunity to reclaim his pride.

Momo had kissed him first.

He had chickened out this morning.

Enough was enough.

So Ren said, deadpan and confident:

"Yeah, she's my girlfriend."

Momo collapsed onto his shoulder on the spot.

Smoke might as well have been pouring from her ears.

"W–W–Wha—!"

"You two look good together!" Mina chimed from across the bus.

"Thanks, Mina," Ren replied casually.

Then he turned back toward the window.

...

The bus slowed to a stop beside a huge dome-like structure.

Everyone piled out eagerly.

Waiting for them at the entrance stood a figure wearing a bulky, space-themed suit—

white uniform, thick gloves, a tinted helmet with two vent-like tubes extending from the sides.

The space hero Thirteen.

"I've been waiting for you," the figure said with a friendly wave.

The class erupted with excitement.

"Thirteen—the Space Hero!" Midoriya gasped, vibrating.

"The gentleman who saves lives during disasters!" he continued.

Uraraka practically glowed.

"Thirteen-san, I love you!!"

"Please, come inside," Thirteen said warmly.

Ren followed the class in, studying the hero carefully.

Black Hole.

A terrifying Quirk with enormous potential—

and equally enormous risk.

'It's a waste to limit it to rescue,' Ren thought.

'But… it's probably safer that way. Lose control and the user gets pulled in too.'

Black Hole had once been one of his dream Quirks to copy—

right next to Erasure.

He'd spent years fantasizing about perfect mastery.

But without absolute control?

It meant instant death.

'Maybe… once Multitasking evolves enough, I could handle it.'

He was deep in thought when—

"Ren?"

Momo touched his shoulder gently.

"You spaced out."

Ren blinked and snapped back to reality.

"Ah—sorry."

Everyone else was already far ahead, so they caught up together.

...

A massive facility opened around them—

shipwreck zones, collapsed buildings, hurricane simulators, wildfire sections…

Iida stared.

"Are we at… Universal Studios Japan?"

"Shipwreck, hurricanes, fires…" Thirteen explained. "This facility was built to simulate every possible disaster scenario."

The hero spread his arms proudly.

"This is the Unforeseen Simulation Joint Facility—USJ!"

The class stared.

Wasn't this just a copy of Universal Studios Japan?

Aizawa walked forward, unbothered.

"Where's All Might? He was supposed to meet us here."

At that, Ren exhaled sharply.

Old man…

Thirteen leaned in and whispered something to Aizawa.

Ren didn't even need to hear it.

Of course.

All Might had spent the entire four-hour use of One For All saving every single cat and granny he found on the way.

Aizawa pinched the bridge of his nose, clearly irritated but not surprised.

"…Let's start," Aizawa said.

But Thirteen stepped forward.

"Before we begin, I must say one thing. Actually—two."

A pause.

"No, maybe three… four… five—"

Everyone just stared.

Finally, Thirteen began properly.

"You all know my Quirk—Black Hole. It sucks in and disintegrates everything."

Midoriya chimed in:

"With that Quirk, you can save people from any disaster!"

"Yes," Thirteen replied. "But it can also kill someone extremely easily."

Silence fell.

Thirteen's voice deepened.

"Some of you have dangerous Quirks too. In hero society, Quirk use is strictly regulated—"

Ren scoffed internally.

'Not if you're rich and famous.'

A top lawyer had erased his transgressions just with fines. And the incident at the hospital?

Kenji had buried it all to not ruin Ren's career. Using his quirk to move quickly through the city was one thing, but using it at a hospital, potentially killing a lot of people was entirely different.

Only the presents that day and All Might knew the truth, the rest of the world thought Ren had simply discovered what happened after coming from school.

Thirteen continued:

"One mistake can cost a life. With Aizawa's test, you measured potential. With All Might's, you learned the danger of using your Quirks on others."

Thirteen placed a hand over the chest of the suit.

"My lesson is different. Today, you'll learn how to use your Quirks to save people."

Ren listened quietly.

He already knew everything Thirteen was saying—

but the words still hit him in the chest.

He tightened his fist—

and felt the bones crack under his own strength.

Seraph repaired them instantly.

'If only I had focused control quirk…

I could have saved Mom.'

Thirteen bowed.

"Thank you for listening."

The class applauded.

Aizawa nodded. "Alright, let's—"

Zzzt—!

Lights flickered.

Then—

Darkness.

"What—?!"

A crackling sound echoed. The air in the center of the dome warped violently.

Students backed away.

Ren's eyes lost all gray—

turning pure white.

Electricity danced over his irises.

Momo stared at him.

A swirling, black mist expanded into a massive portal.

Ren's breath stopped.

His heart froze.

"…It's them."

His voice trembled with rage.

"The bastards who took my mother."

Aizawa snapped to attention.

"Everyone, stay together! Don't mo—"

His command was cut short.

A streak of white lightning shot past him—

Ren.

"You bastards!" Ren roared, arm crackling with kinetic energy. "Give my mother back!"

"REN! STOP!"

But just as Ren reached the portal—

a massive deformed hand shot out.

BAM!

A punch to the gut launched Ren backwards like a ragdoll—

—straight into the wall behind Class 1-A.

"REN!!" the class screamed.

To be continued...

How was this chapter? Liked it?

Also, originally, All Might's use of One For All was just three hours at this point of the series, but thanks to Ren's continous healing, it's four hours.
