Maya's POV
"Hope is gone!" I scream into the phone. "Marcus took her! He came through the window!"
The 911 operator's voice stays calm. "Officers are on the way. Stay where you are."
But I can't stay. Can't wait. My baby is gone.
Ethan runs back into the nursery. "Her blanket is missing. Her favorite stuffed rabbit. He planned this."
"How long ago?" My voice sounds strange. Distant. Like someone else is speaking.
"I checked on her twenty minutes ago. She was asleep."
Twenty minutes. Marcus has a twenty-minute head start with my baby.
Police arrive in five minutes that feel like five hours. Detective Morrison leads the team.
"We're issuing an Amber Alert," he says. "Every officer in the city is looking for Marcus and Hope."
"He sent me photos." I show him my phone. "He's been watching our house. Stalking us."
"We'll trace the photos. Find out where he sent them from."
"He's insane," I say. "His psychiatrist told me. He's dangerous. He could hurt her."
