Chapter 2 - Hero's Heart

Lin Xin was stunned.

She had the template attributes of an NPC from Star Trail.

But that wasn't all—her designation included Glamour Iron Cavalry and Firefly.

Weren't those the characters from the MiHoYo mobile game she'd obsessed over in her previous(x2) life?

She had even spent a small fortune pulling for Firefly's banner back then.

Now, she had literally become her.

So… maybe that gacha money hadn't gone to waste after all.

As her eyes scanned the attribute panel, Lin Xin's heart raced.

A gold-tier template.

This was the kind of panel reserved for Sacred Grade NPCs—the highest echelon in the game. Even during her peak as a player, she had only ever encountered one Legendary Grade NPC, and that was considered a once-in-a-lifetime event.

Yet here she was, with 20 points in all four primary stats—at Level 1.

That was absurd. At Level 1, most players had a combined total of 5 points across all attributes. Lin Xin's stats were equivalent to a Level 12 player who hadn't even undergone a class change.

And then there was her Charisma.

Fixed at birth, Charisma determined how NPCs responded to you—whether they trusted you, offered quests, or even gifted rare items. A score above 80 meant you were considered attractive. Above 90? Practically unattainable for players. Even the most beloved NPCs rarely exceeded 95.

Lin Xin's Charisma was 99.

She was, quite literally, the embodiment of perfection.

Her other stats were equally impressive:

Strength: Dictated physical power and attack damage. Agility: Controlled movement speed, reaction time, and evasion—ideal for nimble classes. Stamina: Determined HP and defense. One point equaled 10 HP. Spirit: Essential for magic-based classes, affecting mana pool and spell potency.

But what truly shocked her were the exclusive skills.

Most players started with zero skills. They had to grind, quest, or apprentice under NPCs to learn even basic abilities.

Lin Xin, however, came preloaded with four skills—and the weakest among them was Legendary Grade.

Mechanical Affinity (Legendary)

Short description, terrifying effect: all mechanical equipment and weapons she used would be 200% more effective.

Even more outrageous—anything she crafted would automatically be two tiers higher in quality.

A junk-tier item would become Common. Common would become Exquisite.

If she crafted an Excellent-grade item… it could become Legendary.

Magma Will (Epic)

Grants 99% resistance to mental attacks and negative status effects.

In Star Trail, early-game enemies—especially the Hellfire Cult—relied heavily on curses, debuffs, and mind-control.

Blindness, petrification, imprisonment—any one of these could instantly wipe a player.

Curing them required rare potions with long cooldowns.

With Magma Will, Lin Xin could simply ignore them.

Heart of Hero (Sacred)

Its description was vague, but its potential was immense.

A one-time fusion skill that adapted based on the item it was merged with.

A wildcard—but a powerful one.

???? (Taboo-Annihilation Grade)

No name. No description.

Just a rainbow-colored icon and a locked status.

It was a tier above Sacred—something Lin Xin had never even seen before.

But without knowing how to activate it, it was just a mystery.

She sighed.

Just then, the four Black-Robed Men from the Hellfire Cult returned. This time, they dragged away two girls from the adjacent cell, their screams echoing down the corridor.

Lin Xin snapped back to reality.

She was still in danger. All the other cells were now empty—only she and the fox-eared girl remained.

And judging by the girl's sobs, she knew what was coming.

"I… I don't want to die… Someone save me…"

Lin Xin didn't want to die either. And unlike players, NPCs didn't respawn.

She had never seen an NPC revive in her previous life.

She took a deep breath and began to strategize.

Regular Hellfire Cultists were around Level 5, with base stats near 10.

She could handle that.

But once the ritual began, a Hellfire Priest would appear.

Level 20.

Stats over 100.

No chance of survival.

Her only hope… lay in Heart of Hero.

She glanced at the broken item in her hand—a diamond-shaped device with a single glowing remnant wing.

Item: Firefly Type-IV Assault Armor Transformation Device

Grade: Legendary (Damaged, Unusable)

Description: Summons the Glamour Iron Cavalry's Firefly Type-IV Strategic Assault Armor, a weapon forged by Republic of Glamoth to combat the swarm.

Currently damaged and unusable.

Evaluation:

"The firefly, after its brilliant burn, refuses to fade into silence. It and its master similarly await rebirth…"

It was the only item she had—and it was broken.

But in desperation, she fused Heart of Hero into it.

A golden orb of light merged with the device.

"Ding ~ Heart of Hero has found a vessel. Item merging… Progress: 1%… 2%… 3%…"

A progress bar appeared, inching forward.

Under normal circumstances, it might've felt fast.

But now, with the echoing footsteps of the cultists growing louder, it felt agonizingly slow.

The merge had only reached 10%!!!
