The elevator descended smoothly into the bank's vault levels, each floor more secure than the last. Emily watched the numbers decrease....Level 2, Level 3, Level 4...until finally, the elevator stopped at Level 5.
The deepest vault level. The most secure. Where the most valuable, most sensitive items were stored.
Where Vault 4721 waited.
Director Müller led them through corridors lined with massive vault doors, each one numbered, each one containing someone's most precious possessions. Emily's hands trembled slightly as they walked, Timothy's presence beside her the only thing keeping her grounded.
"Here," Director Müller said finally, stopping before a vault door marked with elegant script: 4721.
Emily stared at the number. This was it. Behind this door was everything her mothers had prepared for her. Everything they'd died protecting.
