Isabelle fished out her keys from her bag, her movements slower than usual. Though she looked better, her energy was nowhere near normal.
"See?" she muttered as they reached her floor. "I'm perfectly capable. You really don't have to—"
She stopped and her hand froze on the key.
Elias immediately noticed this and asked, "What's wrong?"
"The... The door," she whispered, voice thinning. "I'm sure I locked it."
But the door in front of her was not locked.
The door was cracked open and slightly ajar, like someone had broken in.
Elias stepped in front of her before she even finished breathing. One arm stretched lightly behind him, a wordless command for her to stay back.
"Don't move," he said softly.
Isabelle could literally hear her own heart pounding as she looked at her old door.
Thanks to not having enough, she settled into this resident despite the security being very lax.
She just never expected a day like this to come.
