Chapter 104 - A U - 15

What If They Were Enemies First?

"You killed my brother," I snarl at the human.

Luca Carter. Hunter. Werewolf killer.

"Your brother killed humans first," he responds coldly. "I was defending my village."

"He was defending his pack—"

"By slaughtering innocents?"

We're at a stalemate. Both wanting vengeance. Both thinking we're right.

"I should kill you," I growl.

"Try it, wolf." He raises his silver blade. "I've killed bigger Alphas than you."

But when our eyes meet, something shifts.

The bond snaps into place. Fated mates.

With my enemy.

"No," I breathe. "Not you. Anyone but you."

"What?" He feels it too. The pull. "What is this?"

"Mate bond. We're fated mates." I laugh bitterly. "The universe is cruel."

Six Months Later - Forced Proximity

The pack council and the hunter's guild negotiate a truce. The terms?

Rian and Luca bond. Unite their groups through mating.

"I'd rather die," I tell them.

"Same," Luca agrees.

But we're given no choice. Bond or war.

We choose bonding. Reluctantly.

The ceremony is hostile. No love. Just necessity.

"I claim you," I bite out.

"I accept," he says flatly.

The bond forms. Permanent. Unbreakable.

With my enemy.

One Year Later

We're living together. Barely speaking.

"Pass the salt," is about the extent of our conversations.

But the bond... the bond makes us need proximity. Makes us ache when apart.

"I hate this," I tell him one night.

"Same." But he moves closer. "But I can't stay away."

"Bond's forcing it."

"Maybe." He looks at me. "Or maybe we're both stubborn idiots missing what's right in front of us."

"What's that?"

"Someone who understands loss. Pain. Duty." He takes my hand hesitantly. "We're not so different, Rian."

"You killed my brother."

"You killed my mentor." His grip tightens. "We both have blood on our hands. We're both trying to protect our people. Maybe... maybe we could try to understand each other?"

It's a peace offering.

"Maybe," I agree grudgingly.

Three Years Later

Understanding became friendship. Friendship became affection. Affection became love.

"I love you," I admit one night. "I know I shouldn't. You're my enemy—"

"Was your enemy." He kisses me. "Now I'm your mate. Your husband. Your partner."

"When did that happen?"

"Gradually. While we weren't looking." He smiles. "I love you too. Even though you're an overbearing Alpha who killed my mentor."

"And you're a stubborn hunter who killed my brother."

"We're a disaster."

"We're perfect." I pull him close. "Our families united. Peace between our peoples. All because we were forced together."

"Best forced union ever."

Ten Years Later - Our Children's POV

"So you were enemies?" Our son asks. "And the universe forced you together?"

"Basically," I confirm.

"That's... actually romantic," our daughter says. "Enemies to lovers. Classic."

"It was hell at the time," Luca laughs.

"But worth it now," I add, pulling him close.

"Definitely worth it."

In this universe, they started as enemies.

But became soulmates anyway.

Proving love conquers even hatred.
