Chapter 1 Unknown Future
Gaze your eyes downward dear reader into the heart of the inner self that carries within the heritage of more then 100,000 years. From the inception of life itself, from time itself,we were indeed made to be incarcerated here. For what reason you might ask, who's to be up to the task other than yourself.
Yet life persists and people live on fighting the impending calamity that comes for all life, fighting the world they live in,fighting themselves and each other. In any sense it's all another day on good old planet earth.
Here we come to a young man around 16 or 17 years old walking home from school, there from which he struggles to recall if anything he bothered to overhear in class had any true value.
"Shit at least no one bothered me."
He thinks to himself quietly.
"Still I gotta thank my nigga Tay for getting me that bit of kush,a lil somethings better then nothing."
He looks to his right and at the edge of the street he's walking past were new houses being constructed along an already impressive array of houses as far as the young man was concerned. Some construction workers wave over at him, he waves back then keeps moving forward. Only a block away from where that work was taking place the young man comes to a shabby brick made two story apartment complex. A small stairway leads up to a porch.
He walks up to the porch where a few women with drinks in hand are sitting and conversing with a good amount of ferver, one of them who has similar features to the young man looks over at said young man approaching and greets him.
"Oh hey baby how was school today, you learn anything?"
The young man tries to recall once more if he learned anything good enough to speak it in this conversation, sadly nothing good came up so he spoke and said.
"Naw sorry ma but I ain't learned nothing that I remember, but at least today was alright I'd say. Oh that's good sweetie but hey don't forget I still need that $90 for later on tonight ill pay you back.
No you won't."
The young man thinks to himself inwardly and for a spit second a hint of distain showed in his eyes before the mask of indifference comes back and he says.
"Yeah sure mom it's fine, after all it's what any good son ought to do,just."
He pauses for a moment before a glint of resignation shows in his eyes.
"What's up honey? Oh nothing just.. don't forget to pay me back this time okay ma?"
He uttered the last part rather soft and timidly.
"Oh now Malcolm what I done told you about talking back to me now I said ill pay you back so that's what's ill do. Damn sometimes you're no better then your father, may the lord bless his soul wherever he may be."
The mother rants on with a stern and annoyed tone while the other women watch on quietly. Malcolm with his head held down glances at them secretly through his peripheral vision. On their faces they show looks of pity but Malcolm in this brief moment is able look past their mask to see the truth, and the truth is all these women including his mother hold a large well of distain and bitterness deep in their hearts.
While it is not directed at Malcolm specifically,as of now he's on the metaphorical chopping block as one can view the situation. It wasn't always apparent at first but Malcolm has learned from a young age to understand people using his eyes more then his ears. For this lesson had to be acquired in one of the hardest ways possible.
Bitter memories of the past often hover over the groping remnant that survives, and the turbulent storms that came after. All the lies, neglect, gestures of fake love and.. even violence of the most primordial and wicked kind. He inwardly shutters at the brief recollection.
A person may say they love you and want the best for you but their actions often speak otherwise. But atlas life goes on and these elements are yet another component that one must adapt to or otherwise within those recollections of the past may speak with the voices of damnation. Or in case of the current present where the vessels that sit before Malcolm resides the spirits within which feels less, say less and mean less as the scars of the past hang over the broken hearts of these women and in turn the broken hearts of thier offspring.
Their future is yet uncertain and ripe for change whether a good or bad one, you me or Malcolm knows not which may be the case. Even so Malcolm presses on looking only towards the future, his future.
"Whatever that may be."
Malcolm thinks to himself inwardly.
"Malcolm baby do you love me?"
The mother speaks gently and softly.
"Of course I do mom why do you always ask me that? All I said was to make."
Malcolm pauses mid sentence and quickly realizes he almost fell for the small scheme. Now in to attempt to correct this mistake he quickly apologizes to his mom. Then waves at the other women and heads into the apartment.
When he enters the front door he is greeted with an older man appearing to be in his late thirties. The man who seemed to be absent mindedly laying down and watching TV in the living room turned to see Malcolm enter into the living room. He nodded to Malcolm and Malcolm nodded in return, nothing more needed to be said then what was said just then.
Sounds of running could be heard further down the hallway past the living room. The sound comes closer till what made the noise is revealed to be a 12 to 13 year old child who's features are similar to Malcolm in appearance.
Malcolm for the first time let's a smile grace his face, when the two make eye contact. The pair quickly shift and shuffle their way to the bedroom they both reside in.
"Lil bro good to see ya,how's your day at school been? You better not had let no nigga punk you now.
Malcolm speaks with a warm and jovial air to him,a far cry to his usual demeanor around adults and teens his age. He gives the young boy a dap which lead up into a hug.
"Been cool I'd say nothing much well..I-I did do what you say if someone punked me,I won't no bitch bout it neither I fought him but now im the one that got punished, shit ain't fair if you ask me."
The young boy brimming with energy speaks disjointed and yet still to the point.
"Well damn Malachi what you expect? Ain't nothing gonna be fair in life you should know that by now especially when you're the one caught doing the most.
But he!
I know I know believe me I've been in your spot before at least you learned quicker then me,but don't go making it a habit fighting niggas now ok?
Malcolm spoke the last part sternly along with a touch of authority
"I understand."
Malachi replies back softly
"Good, now let's hop on the game and fuck someone's day up im tryna see who I can make rage quit.
Bro you ain't shit.
The pair chuckle to themselves and hangout with each in good company.
