Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 Wedding II

Keifer's POV

I'm standing at the front, hands clasped, shoulders squared, pretending my heart isn't trying to break out of my chest. Section E is behind me somewhere; I can feel their energy even without looking. Aries stands close, steady. Angelo's presence is heavy, grounding.

Then the doors open.

Everything else disappears.

Jay steps inside.

Her arm is looped through her Dad's, and for a moment I forget how to breathe. She isn't rushing. She isn't nervous in the way people expect brides to be. She's calm, composed—strong. The dress moves with her like it belongs to her, like this moment was always waiting for her.

My chest tightens.

This is the woman I'm marrying.

Not the girl I fell for—but the woman who walked through fire, who chose forgiveness without forgetting, who stands taller because of what she survived.

Her Dad walks beside her, proud and emotional, holding her arm like he knows exactly how precious this moment is. I see his jaw tighten, his eyes shine, and something in me softens.

He showed up.

Right behind them, I see Eces.

She walks with quiet grace, not trying to draw attention, but somehow holding it anyway. Beside her is Jay's mom, and Aunt Reycee, moving together like one unit—women who chose love over resentment, presence over absence.

And suddenly I understand something deeply.

This wedding isn't just about Jay and me.

It's about repair.

My throat burns. I swallow hard.

Jay looks up.

Our eyes meet.

The noise fades. The crowd blurs. There's only her—walking toward me, trusting me with everything she is. Her lips curve into the smallest smile, just for me, and it hits harder than anything else today.

I think about every promise I didn't say out loud yet. Every moment I chose her. Every time I will choose her again.

When she reaches the altar, when her Dad places her hand in mine, it feels heavier than gold—warm, real, alive.

This isn't pressure.

This is honor.

I squeeze her hand gently, silently promising her what words haven't yet said.

I'm here.

I'm staying.

And I will never let you walk alone again .

Jay's POV

The doors open, and the world seems to slow.

My hand is looped through Dad's arm, solid and warm, and for a second I just breathe—because this moment feels bigger than fear, bigger than nerves. The music starts, soft and steady, but my heart is louder.

Each step forward feels unreal.

I can feel the weight of the dress, the gentle pull of the veil, the way everyone's eyes are on me—but none of it matters. Not really. Because all I can see is Keifer.

He's standing there, waiting.

Not restless. Not unsure. Just… present. His posture is straight, his hands clasped, his eyes fixed on me like I'm the only thing in the room. And something in my chest loosens. This isn't a walk toward uncertainty.

It's a walk toward home.

Dad's arm tightens just a little, like he's reminding me he's here. I glance up at him and see pride, emotion, and a kind of peace I didn't expect. He showed up. For me. That alone feels like a miracle.

Behind us, I sense them.

Eces.

Mom.

Aunt Reycee.

Their presence is quiet but powerful, like a safety net stretched across my back. I don't turn, but I know Eces is walking with that same calm strength she always carries, anchoring the moment in a way only she can.

Halfway down the aisle, memories rush in—arguments, laughter, heartbreak, forgiveness, late-night talks, stubborn silences, choosing love even when it was hard.

I'm not floating.

I'm grounded.

When Keifer's eyes meet mine, he smiles—not big, not dramatic. Just real. And I realize my hands aren't shaking. My breath is steady. My heart feels full instead of heavy.

This isn't me being given away.

This is me stepping forward.

When Dad finally places my hand into Keifer's, his fingers linger for a second longer than necessary. I squeeze back, silently saying thank you—for coming, for trying, for loving me in the way he could.

As Dad steps back, I look up at Keifer again.

I don't feel like I'm leaving anything behind.

I feel like I'm walking into something we've already been building.

And for the first time in my life—

I'm not afraid of what comes next..

Third Person POV

The hall settles into a reverent hush as the priest steps forward.

His voice is calm, steady, filling the space with prayer—words about commitment, patience, faith, and choosing one another even when life grows heavy. Heads bow. Hands clasp. The moment feels sacred not because of tradition alone, but because everyone present knows how hard-won this love is.

Jay and Keifer stand facing each other, fingers intertwined.

When the priest invites them to speak their vows, Keifer goes first.

He doesn't unfold a paper. He doesn't hesitate.

"I promise to choose you," he says, voice firm but warm, eyes never leaving Jay's. "Not just on easy days—but on the days we don't understand each other. I promise to listen, to stand beside you, and to never make you feel alone in this life. You are my partner, my home, and my forever."

A quiet wave of emotion moves through the guests.

Jay inhales slowly, grounding herself, then speaks.

"I promise to walk with you," she says softly, but clearly. "To be honest even when it's hard, to fight for us, and to grow with you—not away from you. I don't promise perfection. I promise effort, love, and choosing you again and again."

Keifer's jaw tightens as he smiles, emotion flickering openly now.

The priest nods and gestures gently.

"May the rings be brought forward."

From the side, Eces and Keigan step ahead together.

Eces holds the small box carefully, her expression calm, composed, meaningful. Keigan stands beside her, proud and steady. When they reach the altar, Eces opens the box and hands the rings to the priest with a quiet nod.

The priest blesses them briefly, then turns back.

"Keifer," he says, offering the ring.

Keifer takes it, hands just slightly trembling now. He slides the ring onto Jay's finger with care, like he understands the weight of what he's placing there.

"With this ring," he says, "I give you my word."

Jay takes the other ring and slips it onto Keifer's finger, her touch gentle but sure.

"With this ring," she replies, "I choose you."

The priest smiles, looking between them.

"Do you, Keifer Watson, take Jay to be your wife?"

"I do," Keifer answers without hesitation.

"And do you, Jay, take Keifer Watson to be your husband?"

Jay's voice is steady. "I do."

The priest lifts his hands slightly.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife."

A breath passes. A heartbeat.

"You may kiss the bride."

Keifer cups Jay's face gently, reverently, and leans in. Their kiss is unhurried, warm, and full—more promise than spectacle. The hall erupts into applause, cheers, laughter, and tears all at once.

Eces smiles quietly. Keigan exhales. Section E cheers far louder than necessary. Family members wipe their eyes openly.

Jay and Keifer pull back just enough to rest their foreheads together, smiling—married, grounded, and surrounded by love.

And just like that—

A new chapter begins.

The applause slowly fades into warm chatter as Jay and Keifer step down from the altar, hands still intertwined.

One by one, they move toward the elders.

Tita Gema, Jay's mom, and Aunt Reycee place their hands on their heads, murmuring prayers—wishes for patience, strength, and a love that holds even on difficult days.

Then come the warnings.

Angelo steps forward, placing a firm hand on Keifer's shoulder. His voice is calm, but there's steel beneath it.

"From today, she's your responsibility," he says. "If she cries because of you—remember, you answer to us."

Keifer nods without flinching. "I understand."

Aries crosses his arms, eyes sharp. "Not 'understand.' Remember."

Keifer meets his gaze. "Always."

Even Percy, dramatic as ever, leans in. "I don't do threats," he says lightly, then smiles without warmth. "But I do grudges. Treat her right."

Jay rolls her eyes, smiling. Keifer lets out a soft breath. "Noted."

Jay's dad steps forward last. He doesn't threaten. He doesn't raise his voice. He simply places Jay's hand back into Keifer's and says, "Take care of her. She's strong—but she deserves rest too."

Keifer's voice is quiet, unwavering. "I will."

From behind, Section E chooses that exact moment to erupt.

"OHHHHH—"

"Mr. and Mrs. Watson!"

"Jayfer forever!"

"Look at him—he's scared already!"

Jay laughs, shaking her head. Keifer groans softly as Felix pretends to wipe tears and Ci-n dramatically salutes him.

Then the music shifts.

Jay turns with the bouquet in her hands, glancing around with a playful smile. "Okay—no fighting."

She tosses it over her shoulder.

The flowers arc through the air and—by pure accident—land straight into Angelo's hands. He blinks, startled, still mid-conversation with Eces.

Silence.

Then realization.

Angelo freezes ," Wait! I don't even have any girlfriend."

The crowd cheers. Section E loses its mind.

As the energy settles, a few businessmen approach Keifer, offering congratulations, handshakes, quiet words about partnerships and respect. Jay stands beside him, composed, gracious—every bit the woman they're acknowledging.

Soon after, Jay and Keifer move to their seats.

They sit down between Eces and Keigan.

Eces offers a soft smile, eyes warm. Keigan nods approvingly. Jay exhales, finally letting herself relax.

Keifer squeezes Jay's hand gently under the table.

The ceremony may be over.

But the celebration—

and the life they're stepping into—

has only just begun.

Eces's POV

The music slows, lights dimming just enough to make everything feel softer.

Couples move to the dance floor one by one.

Jay and Keifer first—of course. They fit together so naturally it almost hurts to watch. Keifer's hand at her waist, Jay smiling up at him like she's exactly where she's meant to be. Around them, everyone else joins in—Percy being dramatic with Honey, Grace and Denzel calm and steady, Rakki and Ci-n laughing, Calix and Mica quiet and close, Ella and Aries solid, Freya and Edrix relaxed.

I stay back.

I always do.

Then I feel it—

that presence.

"Dance with me."

I don't look up. "No."

It comes out too fast, too firm. I already know who it is.

Dad.

"I don't dance," I add, softer now.

He doesn't argue. He doesn't tease. He just holds his hand out in front of me, the same way he used to when I was younger and scared to step onto something unfamiliar.

"Just one song," he says. "For me."

I hesitate. My fingers curl into the fabric of my dress. I shake my head once more, but my body betrays me.

I take his hand.

The moment he places his other hand at my back, something inside me loosens. Not all the way—just enough to breathe.

We move slowly. No spins. No crowd awareness. I keep my eyes down, counting steps in my head, grounding myself. His hold is steady. Protective. The way it always was, even when everything else wasn't.

"You're doing fine," he murmurs.

I don't answer.

But I don't pull away either.

When the song ends, I'm relieved—and oddly disappointed.

He squeezes my hand once before letting go. Then he turns toward Jay.

My chest tightens as I step aside.

Jay looks at me briefly, questioning. I nod.

She walks into Dad's arms, and this time, I really watch.

Jay leans into him like she's been waiting years for this exact moment. Dad holds her tighter than he held me, emotion written all over his face. Her eyes close. His jaw tightens. Neither of them speak.

This dance is heavier.

Full of things that were broken—and mended anyway.

I glance toward Keifer.

He's watching them with something close to reverence, pride shining openly in his eyes. When he notices me looking, he gives a small nod—like he understands something he never asked about.

The music fades. Applause follows, soft and respectful.

I let out a slow breath I didn't realize I was holding.

Today isn't just Jay's wedding.

It's proof that even fractured families can still move together—

carefully, awkwardly, imperfectly—

but together all the same.

Jay's POV

The hall feels different now.

Quieter. Like it's exhaling after holding its breath all night.

Dad steps closer to me, his hand warm on my shoulder. Aunt Reycee stands beside him, calm and gentle like she always is.

"We'll stay at our place tonight," Dad says. His voice is steady, reassuring. "You don't need to worry about us."

I nod, even though a part of me wants to keep him right here, just a little longer. "Okay," I say softly.

I watch as things slowly fall into place.

Mom, Tita Gema, Angelo, and Aries leave together in one car. Mom turns back twice, like she's trying to memorize my face exactly as it is right now. Tita Gema gives me a small nod, full of pride. Angelo reminds Keifer—again—to take care of me. Aries just raises a brow, like a silent warning.

Then I see Eces.

She gets into the car with Keigan and Keiren. Keiren is already yawning, leaning against the window, exhaustion finally winning. Keigan opens the door for her, careful, almost instinctive. Eces pauses before getting in, looks back at me, and gives a small smile.

It's quiet, but it says everything.

Her car pulls away, and something in my chest shifts. I don't know why—it's not sadness exactly. More like awareness. Of how much we've all changed tonight.

Then there's just us.

Keifer opens the door for me, the same way he always does—steady, familiar. I take one last look at the wedding hall, the lights, the place where I said I do, where everything finally aligned.

I slide into the seat.

Keifer gets in beside me, and when the car starts moving, I rest my head back, letting the moment sink in.

I'm married.

Not rushed. Not unsure.

Just… married.

As the road stretches ahead of us, the noise of the day fading behind, I realize something quietly beautiful:

Tonight didn't just give me a husband.

It gave me peace.
