Jay POV
I woke up to the smell of toast.
For a second, I forgot where I was.
Then I felt warmth beside me and a blanket tucked perfectly around my shoulders.
I slowly opened my eyes.
Keifer was sitting on the edge of the bed, holding a tray.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," he said softly.
I blinked. "What are you doing?"
"Taking care of my patient," he replied.
I sat up, confused. "Since when do you make breakfast?"
"Since my girlfriend had a rough night."
On the tray were toast, scrambled eggs, cut fruits, and a mug of warm milk.
My heart melted.
"You made all this?" I asked.
He nodded proudly. "I even burnt the first batch of toast, but we don't talk about that."
I smiled. "You stayed up all night with me… and still cooked?"
"Obviously," he said. "Boyfriend duties."
I picked up a strawberry and ate it. "This is really good."
He leaned closer. "How do you feel?"
"Better," I said honestly. "Still tired, but the cramps are gone."
He sighed in relief. "Good. You scared me last night."
I reached for his hand. "Thank you for staying."
"Always," he said.
I looked at him and suddenly felt emotional.
"You're too good to me."
He smirked. "I know. Eat your breakfast."
I laughed and took a bite of toast.
This was my favourite kind of morning.
Warm bed.
Good food.
And him.
Right beside me.
I was halfway through my toast when Keifer cleared his throat.
"So… about school today."
I froze.
I knew that tone.
"What about it?" I asked carefully.
"You're not going."
I blinked. "Excuse me?"
"You had cramps all night. You need rest."
"I'm fine now."
"No, you're not. You're pale."
"That's my natural beauty," I said.
He crossed his arms. "Jay."
I pouted. "Keifer, I can't miss school."
"You can miss one day."
"We have a test today ."
"Health is more important than marks."
"My marks are my health."
He stared at me.
I stared back.
We had a full silent argument with our eyes.
"I'm going," I said.
"You're not."
"I am."
"You're not."
I grabbed my pillow and hugged it. "You're so bossy."
"And you're stubborn."
"Rude."
"Cute."
I gasped. "That was not a compliment."
He smirked. "It was."
I turned away dramatically. "I'm mad at you."
"Really?" he asked. "For how long?"
"Five minutes."
"Wow. That's serious."
I crossed my arms. "Don't talk to me."
He leaned closer. "Okay."
I waited.
He didn't talk.
"Why are you not talking?" I snapped.
"Because you said don't talk to you."
"That was five seconds ago."
He laughed. "Mood swing detected."
"I do not have mood swings."
"You literally just yelled at me for being quiet."
I threw my pillow at him.
He caught it. "Violence is not the answer."
"I hate you."
"No, you don't."
"Maybe I do."
"Then why are you smiling?"
I tried to look serious. Failed.
He poked my cheek. "There she is."
I rolled my eyes. "You're annoying."
"And you love me."
"…Unfortunately."
He pulled me into a hug. "Come on. You're not going to school today."
I sighed. "Fine. But you owe me chocolate."
"Deal."
I smiled.
I was supposed to be studying.
Instead, I was wrapped in Keifer's arms like a human pillow.
The curtains were half-open, letting sunlight spill across the bed. The room smelled like coffee and toast.
Keifer was lying on his back, and I was curled against his side, my head on his chest.
"This is your fault," I said.
He hummed. "For what?"
"For distracting me."
"I'm literally doing nothing."
"You're breathing loudly."
He laughed. "That's a crime now?"
"Yes."
He tightened his arm around me. "Arrest me, then."
I shifted closer. "I can't move. You trapped me."
"Exactly as planned."
I traced random shapes on his shirt. "We're being lazy."
"We're healing," he corrected.
"I have homework."
"Your homework can wait."
"What if I fail?"
"Then I'll tutor you."
"You don't even listen in class."
"True. But I listen to you."
I smiled.
The room was quiet again.
I felt safe. Warm. Calm.
"Keifer?" I whispered.
"Hmm?"
"Can we stay like this all day?"
He kissed the top of my head. "As long as you want."
I closed my eyes.
Maybe skipping school was the best decision after all.
The sunlight had shifted by the time my eyes started feeling heavy.
Keifer's hand was gently moving through my hair, slow and careful, like he was afraid to wake me.
"You're getting sleepy," he whispered.
"I'm not," I murmured, already half-asleep.
"Your eyes are closed."
"That's just blinking for a long time."
He chuckled.
I tucked my face into his chest. His heartbeat was steady and warm.
The blanket was soft. The room was quiet.
I felt safe.
"Keifer?" I whispered.
"Yes, sleepyhead."
"Promise you won't move."
"I promise."
"Promise you won't disappear when I wake up."
He kissed my forehead. "I'll be right here."
My fingers curled into his shirt.
"Good," I sighed.
The world slowly faded into softness.
The last thing I felt was his arms tightening around me.
And then I slept.
Keifer POV
Jay had just fallen asleep again when the doorbell rang.
Once.
Twice.
Then someone started knocking like the door had personally offended them.
I sighed , went downstairs and walked to the door.
The moment I opened it, Angelo stood there with his arms crossed and fire in his eyes.
"Why were you not in school?" he snapped.
I blinked. "Good morning to you too."
"You skipped classes," he said. "Both of you did."
"So?"
"So?!" He stepped forward. "Do you know how many teachers called me and asked where you were?"
I raised an eyebrow. "You're not my attendance officer."
"Jay is sick," he said angrily. "And instead of bringing her to school properly or informing anyone, you just disappeared."
"She has bad cramps," I said calmly. "She needed rest."
Angelo clenched his jaw. "You could have told me. I was worried."
I paused. "You were worried?"
"Yes," he snapped. "She didn't answer my texts. You didn't answer my calls. What was I supposed to think?"
I sighed. "She was asleep. I was taking care of her."
He looked past me into the house. "Is she okay?"
"Yes. She's resting."
His anger softened just a little.
"…Tell her I came," he muttered.
"I will."
He turned to leave, then stopped. "Next time, don't just vanish."
"Noted."
He walked away, still annoyed.
I closed the door and shook my head.
That boy gets angry too easily.
But at least I knew one thing—
Jay had people who cared about her.
And that made me feel a little better.
The same day , afternoon
By afternoon, the chat group was buzzing with messages.
Group Chat: Section E – Jay Warriors
Rory: Attendance today was depressing.
Edrix: Half the class vanished.
Ci-n: More like certain people vanished.
Felix: I'm naming names.
Blaster: KEIFER. JAY. EXPLAIN.
Kit: Bro skipped school like it was optional.
Mayo: It is optional. It's called bunking.
Eman: Don't normalize bad behaviour.
Eren: Too late.
Josh: There was a Maths test.
Drew : MATHS TEST.
David : Why are we shouting?
Denzel: Because some people were living peacefully at home.
Keifer: Jay was sick.
Rory: Sick how?
Felix: Flu?
Blaster: Food poisoning?
Kit: Teacher-phobia?
Ci-n: She looked tired yesterday.
Eman: She left early too.
Jay: WHY IS EVERYONE INVESTIGATING MY LIFE ?
Mayo: SHE'S ALIVE .
Eren: We thought you were kidnapped
Josh: Or eloped
Jay: WHAT !
Drew: Wait, Keifer, you didn't tell us anything.
David: We were worried.
Blaster: Also the test was hard. You escaped.
Denzel: Lucky people.
Felix: Jay, are you okay now?
Jay: Yes, doctor Felix
Rory: Come tomorrow or we riot.
Kit: Section E protest.
Mayo: With posters.
Eman: No riots.
Keifer: She'll come if she feels better.
Ci-n: Keifer acting like a guardian now.
Blaster: Responsible era unlocked.
Jay: Stop embarrassing me.
Eren: Too late. Section E never forgets.
Josh: Get well soon, drama queen.
Jay: Thank you, background character.
Drew: This group chat is the real headache.
Denzel: But we love it.
Rory: Rest well, Jay.
Felix: Don't skip again without informing us.
Blaster: Or at least tell us where the snacks are.
Jay put the phone down and sighed. "Our class is crazy."
I smiled.
"But they're our crazy."
" Now , you should sleep again." I said .
" I don't think I can sleep now ." She replied.
By the evening , Jay was finally feeling better.
She was sitting on the couch with a blanket, watching random videos on her phone while eating chips.
Peace.
Silence.
Then—
DOORBELL.
Once.
Twice.
Then someone started knocking like the door owed them money.
Jay looked at me. "Who is that?"
"I don't know," I said, walking toward the door.
I opened it.
And froze.
Rory, Edrix, Ci-n, Felix, Blaster, Kit, Mayo, Eman, Eren, Josh, David, Drew, and Denzel were standing outside.
With snacks.
And drama.
Blaster stepped forward. "SURPRISE."
Jay gasped from behind me. "Why is my entire class here?!"
Mayo waved. "Evening visit."
Kit grinned. "We came to check if you're alive."
Felix held up a bag. "And we brought food."
Eman sighed. "This was not planned. They forced me."
Rory crossed his arms. "We were worried."
Jay blinked. "You all skipped your own evening study for me?"
Denzel shrugged. "Worth it."
Blaster pushed past me. "Okay, where is the patient?"
Jay pointed at herself. "I'm right here."
Ci-n rushed to her. "Are you okay now?"
Jay nodded. "Much better."
Edrix looked around. "Nice house. Snacks. Couch. Good vibes."
Eren sat on the floor. "We're staying."
Josh whispered, "This feels illegal."
David added, "But fun."
Drew looked at me. "You didn't tell us she was sick."
"I did," I said.
"In the group chat," Mayo said. "We needed real proof."
Blaster handed Jay a chocolate. "Get well soon."
She smiled. "Thank you."
Felix gave her juice.
Rory adjusted her blanket.
Ci-n fixed her pillow.
Jay stared at them. "Why are you all suddenly so nice?"
Kit grinned. "Because if you skip school again, we're dragging you ourselves."
Jay laughed. "Deal."
I leaned against the wall, watching the madness.
My house had turned into Section E headquarters.
And somehow…
It felt perfect.
