Lilian didn't agree with Morrison's point of view.
"I still want a daughter. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have both a son and a daughter? Just like my brother."
She was referring to Dave. Dave and Laurent were now true winners in life—blessed with both a boy and a girl.
Morrison felt like crying but had no tears to shed. He didn't want another child. First, ever since they had a baby, he had already been terribly neglected. Second, he couldn't bear the thought of Lilian going through the pain of childbirth again.
When he thought about how she had once been such a carefree girl who had never really suffered, yet had endured so much agony to give birth to their son, Morrison simply didn't have the courage to let her go through it again. She had been in pain—how could his heart not ache just as much?
