Rimu's Pov:
Finally back home. Today was a mess. A random student appeared, a tournament type matches has been announced and I was forced to join in..
I don't even know how to play chess. And I need to win it or Blaze will be that kid SERVANT!
Nuh uh. I'm not handing him to a spoiled brat like her. I need to learn how to play chess.
I drop my beg and dive in, face first on my bed. Letting out a huge sigh of tiredness.
Suddenly out of nowhere, Blaze burst into my room with an old chess board in his grasp.
Blaze: "I found my old chess board!!!" He said with a nostalgic tone, as he put it beside me.
Me: "I've heard about chess before. But I have no interest in playing it." I pushed up my body to cross legged position towards the chess board.
I watch carefully as Blaze arranges the pieces to its position.
Blaze: "Alright. Pawns move like this. Either 1 square or 2 square. But 2 squares is only allowed if the pawn moves for the first time." He explained it to me while moving the D pawn to D4.
I listen carefully to his teaching.
.
.
After a while I finally understood how all the pieces move. Pawn only can move 2 squares if it was first deployed then only move in 1 square. Capturing a piece using a pawn needs the enemy piece in a diagonal direction.
Bishop moves in a diagonal direction, any square is possibly in that diagonal direction if it is unoccupied or have pieces that can be captured.
Same with Rook but horizontally. But a Queen is both fused into one, the most Powerful piece .
The most interesting one is, the Knight or Horse. It moves in an L like pattern. It can jump over pieces and capture like that too. Probably the most interesting piece.
And my objective is to protect the king from checks.. Yeah easy enough...
....
Blaze: "Ahhh. No no. That's an illegal move. Your rook is pinned against your king." he pointed at his Queen on C4.
Me: "What.... Urgh." I was forced to move my king and...
Blaze: "Checkmate. That's our 5th match and my 5th victory. So how is it, do you finally get that feeling?"
I stare at the chessboard.
Move. Capture. Protect. Check and Checkmate.
How many possible outcomes exist here? With every move, do my chances of victory shift? Could there be hidden strategies I haven't uncovered yet?
My brain continues to generate questions after question. I'm trying to solve each of them.
If I move this at the moment. Could I get a chance to win? No it would be the same. What if you move that in that moment. Wait no! He could counter by moving his Knight. Argh, so many possibilities and mistakes I've made.
ARGH.. IT'S FRUSTRATIN-
Suddenly something hit my forehead. Knocking me out from my analysis. When I came back into my senses, I looked towards Blaze who just flick my forehead.
Blaze: "Are you Overthinking again? You should really control that habit of yours. Already I guess this is enough for today. Come, let's help me with dinner." He packs up the chessboard before standing up from the bed.
I let out a big sigh of relief.
.
.
After taking my nightly nutrition and cleaning myself.
I drag my body towards the bed and lift myself onto the mattress, letting my body relax and calm down from today's drama.
I tried to close my eyes and drift myself to sleep.. But..
I CAN'T!
The frustration of not knowing what I did wrong in that chess match against my brother. Really ticking my nerves.
After a while of trying to sleep...
I CAN'T!!!
I pulled out my laptop and began my search for chess.

Third Pov:
Rimu training montage!!
CAMERA, LIGHT, ACTION!!!!!
.
.
From that night and forward. Rimu downloaded an online chess game to practice outside of playing against Blaze.
Day 1.
In the All Doing club, Rimu is watching a video about chess. It's hidden rules and tactics.
En Passant, Skewer, Pinning pieces, Ladder Checkmate and many more.
He tries to apply it in his game with others online.
Addy sees this guy actually trying his own even though he doesn't have any interest at all.
Ai just cheer for him. Because this is her first time seeing Rimu seriously. While Marin just does her own thing.
Day 2.
Rimu is now learning opening. An opening is the early stage of chess, where the player will try to make a good position for themself. It may be different each match depending on the opponent.
Pyramid Opening, Caro Kan, Queen Gambit, Sicilian Defense and many more.
As usual he applied it immediately on game. But he uses it on Blaze, blindfolded.
Rimu loses 7 matches in a row but still Blaze have a tougher time than the night before.
He is developing faster than anyone. That's Rimu, a sloth incarnate with a blessing of growth.
Day 3.
He watches top play gameplay. Mangus, Hikaru, Gakesh, Vidat and other top players.
He analysed the game. Each move, each planning, each possibility. He calculates and remembers it.
The entire day. He spent just reviewing and analysing their games, until it craved itself on his brain.
Day 4.
He played against Blaze on equal footing. Despite Blaze being handicap with the timer of 5 minutes while Rimu got 15 minutes.
Games after games. After their section of chess, Rimu continues to play online on his phone.
He is using every single second as effectively as he could. Because he wanted to get back for the insult that had been thrown by Arisu to Blaze.
He deeply hates her for saying that in front of his dearest brother.
.
.
Finally, the day of the match has begun.
.
.
.
.
In the corner of the gymnasium, Addy is standing alone. His face is far from being friendly and possibly even tired
Addy: "It's such a pain to do this stuff."
He began to move out of the gymnasium.
Chapter 17: Ends.
