Chapter 23: Mother and Daughter
When the figure on the sofa stood up, everyone in the room looked up at her.
She was an exceptionally tall Witch, over two meters in height. But when her face turned, Alice, who was beside Dorothy, gasped.
"She's so beautiful, Sister! This big sister looks a bit like you."
Even though Dorothy was filled with impatience at that moment, when that face came into view, her anger couldn't help but subside a little.
Humans are always exceptionally lenient towards beautiful things, and the beauty of this tall Witch was definitely worthy of being called beautiful. It was almost on par with the beauty of the pure white Angel Witch she had encountered in the bookstore earlier. The two could be ranked as the second most beautiful people Dorothy had ever seen in her life.
Similar to that pure white Angel Witch, this tall Witch named Youfeiliya also had a very high degree of evolution, so high that some non-human features had inevitably appeared on her body, such as the pair of dragon horns on her head that resembled a crown, or her cold, vertical pupils that shone like gold.
However, these non-human features not only didn't detract from her beauty but instead added a wild and majestic charm. Coupled with her expressionless, delicate face, she appeared wild yet aloof, beautiful yet dangerous, possessing a unique, awe-inspiring and inviolable temperament.
Even though she had seen this face once in her memories, Dorothy was still stunned by its beauty upon seeing it again now.
However, such emotions lasted only for an instant. What Dorothy lacked least was resistance to beauty. Therefore, she merely frowned and completely resisted the allure of this almost demonic face. She still stared at the Witch with an unfriendly expression, her gaze firm and unwavering.
Upon seeing Dorothy, the cold gaze of the tall Dragon Witch immediately softened a little.
"..."
She opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, but then hesitated, finally only uttering a few words.
"Long time no see."
"But I don't particularly want to see you, Youfeiliya."
Dorothy, however, showed no signs of appreciation. She retorted with sharp words.
Upon hearing such merciless words, the Dragon Witch frowned. Her gaze sharpened, and a terrifying aura rose from her, but it all disappeared before reaching Dorothy, leaving only a gentle breeze caressing her face.
"Whether I come to see you is for me to decide, it has nothing to do with your will, Dorothy. Go pack your things, you're coming back with me today."
She restrained her temper, only finally uttering such cold words.
"Who are you? Why should I go with you? Please help yourself, but don't involve me."
Even though the sudden burst of power had made her tremble all over, Dorothy remained completely unafraid. She sneered and mocked the important figure before her.
"I am your mother."
The Dragon Witch, whose temper seemed not to be very good, finally erupted. She raised her voice and roared, her normally soft and pleasant female voice even accompanied by a dragon's roar amidst her loss of control, carrying astonishing power.
"I don't have a mother."
Dorothy also roared back, unwilling to show weakness. She, who was usually gentle and calm, was uncharacteristically losing control of her emotions, causing her magic, which was always bound by her will, to burst forth with the release of her emotions.
This caused her pupils to contract, turning into the vertical pupils of a dragon. Her voice became somewhat similar to the Dragon Witch's opposite her, like a dragon's roar, but it was the roar of a young dragon, clear, but lacking a bit of majesty.
And such changes in herself made Dorothy somewhat annoyed. Some things existed objectively, whether she admitted them or not.
After taking a deep breath, she regained her composure, and the strange phenomena on her body disappeared.
However, the atmosphere of confrontation between the mother and daughter was somewhat oppressive, causing Alice, who had originally stood beside Dorothy, to tremble and run to her parents. It was the first time she had seen her sister so irritable in her life.
The petite mother, Anne, whose figure was not much different from her daughter's, reached out and hugged her daughter. The confrontational atmosphere between the mother and daughter meant nothing to her. She merely gave a cold glance at her husband beside her, signaling the useless man to quickly resolve the matter.
This made the elegant middle-aged man, who had been silent all along, look a bit bitter, but he still gritted his teeth and stood up, wanting to say something.
But before he could speak, the domineering Dragon Witch immediately silenced him with a fierce glare, making him sit back down.
"This is not your place to speak, Adam. All of this is your mistake to begin with."
The Dragon Witch's words made the man's face turn pale. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but under the mountain-like pressure, he couldn't make any sound.
After all, he was just a human mage. Even if he was powerful enough to be called a legend among humans, his strength was truly insufficient in front of a Witch, especially an Apex Witch.
"This is my home. You're the one who should shut up, Youfeiliya. Since you chose to abandon us back then, why bother coming back now? Please leave immediately and stop disturbing our peaceful life."
Dorothy quickly walked to her father's side, somewhat struggling but ultimately enduring the overwhelming pressure that felt like Mount Tai pressing down. Although under this pressure, every cell in her body was screaming, fearing, and shouting for her to leave quickly, to run away, Dorothy still ignored her body's survival instinct. She said so firmly, word by word.
Fortunately, the terrifying pressure soon disappeared, and the illusions on the Dragon Witch, who had almost completely transformed into a terrifying giant dragon in Dorothy's extraordinary perception, also vanished. She returned to normal, as if her previous anger had all been an illusion.
"As expected of my daughter, Dorothy, you are very good. Your talent is even above mine. My divination back then was indeed not wrong. Although Adam, that good-for-nothing, is not strong, his genes are indeed the most compatible with mine."
The Dragon Witch remained expressionless, but her golden pupils looked at Dorothy with admiration. Then, a hint of a smile finally appeared on her cold face, though it was a mocking sneer.
"I abandoned you? Dorothy, is that how Adam, that good-for-nothing, explained it to you all these years? I've been looking for you for sixteen years, my foolish daughter. Perhaps you should ask your good father why he ran away from me with you back then, and kept running for sixteen years."
Uh...
Dorothy was somewhat taken aback by such inexplicable words. She turned to look at her father behind her, somewhat disbelieving, but the middle-aged man was now bowing his head, somewhat afraid to look at her.
Oh my god...
At this moment, Dorothy was numb. Was her background really that complicated? Had she been hating the wrong person all these years?
