Chapter 5: Witch Specialty Store
It has to be said that a Demoness's physique is truly remarkable. The severe dizziness from Transmigration, which had been agonizing just moments before, completely subsided in less than a minute. Dorothy lifted her head, surveyed the surroundings, which were entirely different from the port she had just left, and a hint of nostalgia flickered in her eyes.
Hmm, these familiar high-rise buildings, this incredibly familiar forest of steel and concrete—it's the same old recipe, the same old taste.
Although this is a fantasy world where magic flourishes, technology and magic, when developed to their extremes, actually lead to the same destination. Not to mention, the level of magic in the Witch World is far higher than the technological level of her previous home.
Therefore, this world is not the common backward medieval setting one might imagine. On the contrary, the aesthetic here is more akin to a futuristic world from a sci-fi movie.
Everything that existed in her previous world has a similar magical substitute here. Even some sci-fi products that were still in the theoretical fantasy stage in her past life have become common necessities in residents' homes here.
Dorothy was quite satisfied with this. Although she, as a Transmigration, lost the advantage of showing off and gaining an upper hand with knowledge from her previous life, at least she didn't have to live the awkward life of a Transmigration without a refrigerator, air conditioning, or even toilet paper, having to use bamboo strips when going to the toilet, right?
Dorothy looked up at the sky. The towering skyscrapers were hundreds of meters high, their tops sometimes obscured by the ethereal clouds. These buildings, constructed by earth mages, were of much higher quality than those in her previous world, incredibly sturdy. Theoretically, as long as there was enough magic, they could even build a Tower of Babel.
Between the high-rise buildings, various magical projections flickered, colorful and vibrant, far more beautiful than neon lights. Along the way, young people occasionally rode brooms, weaving through these projections. Although these thrill-seeking young men and women were quickly chased through the streets by law enforcers, they seemed to run even more joyfully the more they were pursued, leaving only their cheers and laughter echoing between the buildings.
"Breaking News: Our Sea Moon Society has reached a strategic cooperation agreement with the neighboring Morning Light Society. The two cities will engage in deeper collaboration on the automated magic puppet project. As a derivative of the automated magic puppet project, mechanical prosthetics are expected to see a price reduction."
". Renowned architectural society Gaia announced that a new batch of sky islands will be released at the end of this month. Those interested are encouraged to anticipate."
"Yesterday, the renowned Magic Web new-generation scholar, Forest Witch, once again released a brand new Demoness spell. This is already the third spell released this year by this mysterious young Spell Master. Let us congratulate our young genius compatriot, and may magic forever prosper."
As the two sisters walked towards their destination, the Witch Specialty Store, they casually browsed the various magical projections and news around them. Suddenly hearing a familiar name spoken by the Demoness announcer on the virtual screen, Dorothy immediately got goosebumps and felt a little uncomfortable.
"What's wrong, Sister?"
Alice, by her side, keenly noticed her sister's abnormality and asked with concern. However, the golden-haired beauty also heard the news from the pretty Demoness announcer on the magic screen at the entrance of a nearby shop, and instantly understood.
"Oh, so the Witch of the Woods has released a new spell again! That's great! I'm going to order it right away. How about you, Sister? Are you buying it? I remember you're her loyal fan, aren't you? It seems you collect all the spells in this series."
The Little Witch excitedly pulled out a pink spellbook with a very girlish cover from her pouch, then eagerly connected to the Magic Web, skillfully logged onto the Demoness Forum, clicked into the Magic Web Library, found the new spell recommended on the library's homepage, and finally placed the order to download it.
A spellbook is an essential item for every transcendent. It is not only an auxiliary tool for casting spells but also functions like Dorothy's phone and computer from her previous life, an indispensable part of work, study, and entertainment.
The Magic Web's speed is incredibly fast; small spells like this are almost instant downloads. As the download completed, a brand new page gradually appeared within Alice's spellbook.
"Let me see, 'Witch's Magical Girl Transformation Spell.' The name is as strange as ever, but it's actually a high-level transformation spell! That's quite impressive. Such high quality, and the price is so affordable. Forest Witch, you are the GOAT."
Alice said, her eyes shining. The Little Witch was very excited, like a fangirl proud of her idol. But then she turned to her sister beside her and sighed.
"Sigh, we're both new-generation Demonesses, but why is there such a huge gap between Demonesses?"
"I think you're asking for a beating, Alice."
A tic-tac-toe symbol appeared on Dorothy's forehead. She reached out and delivered a powerful chop to her sister's head.
"Ow, ow, ow, Sister! I was wrong! Sister is the GOAT!"
Amidst their playful antics, the two sisters unknowingly arrived at their destination. Looking at the building with the eye-catching magical sign "Witch Specialty Store" at its entrance, they walked inside.
Well, to call it a "store" isn't quite accurate; it's more precisely a super-sized shopping mall. After all, the things Demonesses need are too numerous and varied, ranging from basic magic robes, staves, and spellbooks to casting materials for the nine schools of magic, and alchemical tools and potions for adventures, and so on.
Such complex requirements simply cannot be met by a single shop. Therefore, although it is called the Witch Specialty Store, it actually refers to a shopping mall formed by numerous merchants working together.
Similar establishments are quite common in this world, such as the various magic markets favored by other races of transcenents. However, buying things in such mixed magic markets really tests the buyer's discernment; it's easy to get scammed and buy fakes if one isn't careful. Of course, with good luck, one can also find treasures.
The Witch Specialty Store, however, is different. Merchants allowed to set up shop in the Witch Specialty Store are all long-established businesses in various industries, possessing both credibility and capability, and are considered brand names in this world. Therefore, the items sold here are generally high-end.
While the prices are indeed a bit high, causing other races of transcenents to look bitter, for the Witch Specialty Store's primary clientele, the Demonesses, a slight premium is nothing. After all, earning money is quite simple for Demonesses; they are almost all rich women.
Hmm, if you complain about things being expensive, it's not the product's problem, it's your problem as a customer.
However, being universally rich women applies to adult Demonesses. As an underage Demoness, Dorothy rarely came to this Witch Specialty Store. She preferred to hunt for treasures in ordinary magic markets, as for her, who was determined to buy a house, every bit saved counted.
But since Mother just gave her an allowance today, and she would be a member of the Witch Academy starting tomorrow, it was fine to be a bit casual at home, but at school, she should at least live like a Demoness. So, today, she would be a little extravagant.
