Chapter 15 - chapter 15: the red moon's whisper

what happened I asked Lena I found this note on my window she said while handing me a note it read " The prophecy is near" what does that even mean?? I asked I don't know Lena said but I think it might be something relating to you aria no one has ever sent me a note before hmm I said I don't know anything about any prophecy who knows well sleep tight aria you've got a long day tomorrow she said as she covered me with blanket while I lay down on my bed goodnight night aria she said while kissing my forehead good night Lena I said while closing my eyes.

The morning light spilled through Lena's window, soft and golden, wrapping the little house in warmth. For the first time in a while, I felt rested. My body was still healing, but my mind—my heart—was racing with what had happened last night.

Jason's touch. His eyes. The way his voice trembled when he said he couldn't control himself.

I pressed a hand against my chest, trying to steady the wild beat there. I didn't know what to make of it. He was the Alpha — powerful, dangerous, impossible to read — and yet, there was something fragile in the way he looked at me.

Before I could think too much, there was a soft knock on the door.

Lena poked her head in, smiling gently. "You have a visitor."

My heart skipped. "Who?"

She gave me that knowing look. "Who else?"

I swallowed, brushing my hair down before stepping outside.

Jason stood near his truck, the sun making his dark hair glint faintly like molten gold. He was leaning against the door with his hands in his pockets, casual yet commanding. When his gaze lifted and met mine, I forgot to breathe for a moment.

"Morning," he said quietly.

"Morning," I replied, trying not to sound nervous.

He nodded toward the truck. "Come with me. I want to show you something."

I blinked. "Show me something? What kind of something?"

He smiled faintly. "You'll see."

I raised a brow. "Is that how you surprise all your girls before you sleep with them?"

He stopped moving, his jaw tightening. Then his lips curved just a little. "I've never taken any girl out before, Aria."

That caught me off guard. "Never?"

He shook his head. "No."

I crossed my arms. "Okay. But let's be clear before we go anywhere — I'm not going to have sex with you, Jason."

He chuckled under his breath, the sound deep and warm. "Noted."

I rolled my eyes, but couldn't hide the tiny smile that tugged at my lips.

He opened the truck door for me, and I climbed in. The seats smelled faintly of pine and smoke — the scent that always seemed to follow him.

As we drove down the forest road, the trees swaying gently around us, Jason glanced at me. "You don't have a phone, do you?"

I shook my head. "Never really needed one."

He reached into his jacket pocket and handed me a small box. "Then you'll need this."

I blinked. "What is it?"

"Open it."

Inside was a sleek, silver phone — simple, but new.

"Jason, I can't—"

"It's not a gift," he interrupted softly. "It's for your safety. So I can reach you… if anything happens."

There was something in his voice that made my chest ache a little. I nodded. "Thank you."

He smiled faintly, focusing on the road again. For a while, we sat in silence, the hum of the engine filling the space between us.

Then he asked, "Has your wolf awakened yet?"

I stared out the window. "No. Not yet. I turn eighteen in two weeks."

He nodded slowly. "So when it awakens… are you going to find your mate?"

I let out a soft laugh, but there wasn't much humor in it. "I'm just trying to survive, Jason. I don't really care about mates."

He was quiet for a moment, his hands tightening slightly on the steering wheel. "You should," he said finally. "The bond can be powerful. Beautiful, even."

"Beautiful?" I turned to him. "You're the Alpha, and your wolf is awakened. Why don't you have a mate, then?"

He exhaled, a shadow crossing his face. "Because sometimes… when you love someone, to protect them… you have to stay away from them."

I frowned. "So you're saying you stay away from your mate to protect her? What does that even mean?"

He didn't answer. His jaw flexed once, and he looked out the windshield, as if the answer was buried somewhere in the horizon.

"Well," I said quietly, "I'm hungry."

That earned me a small smile. "Then let's fix that."

---

The restaurant was a cozy little place on the edge of town, tucked between tall pines. It smelled like grilled meat and cinnamon bread. Jason picked a corner table, and we sat across from each other.

The waitress came, nervous under Jason's gaze — everyone always seemed to be. He ordered for both of us: roasted venison with honey glaze and warm cider.

We talked about small things — how Lena's healing worked, how the pack border had been quiet lately. For once, it felt almost normal.

Jason's laugh was rare, but when it came, it felt like sunlight breaking through clouds. I found myself smiling more than I should have.

Then, as we finished eating, a waiter approached. "Excuse me, miss?" he said politely.

"Yes?"

"Someone asked me to give you this."

He held out a folded note.

Jason frowned. "Who gave it to you?"

"I… don't know, Alpha," the waiter stammered. "He left right after handing it to me."

Jason's eyes darkened. "Describe him."

"I didn't get a good look, sir. He wore a hood."

Jason took the note from me before I could open it, sniffing it slightly — a wolf habit. His expression hardened instantly. "Human scent," he muttered. "But faint."

I reached for it. "Let me see."

He hesitated, then handed it over.

The paper was rough, like old parchment. The handwriting was messy, almost angry.

> You cannot hide from your fate, Moonstone.

The Red Moon will rise again.

And You will fulfill your prophecy.
