The instant my feet touched this territory, I felt it wash over me like a wave. This pack's hunger for a Luna ran so deep it practically vibrated through the air. Whether it was my bond with Nathan or some heightened awareness I couldn't explain, their desperate need hit me the moment I stepped into the crowd. They seemed to breathe easier just having me there, like parched earth finally receiving rain after a devastating drought.
This wasn't simple neglect I was sensing. This pack was missing its very soul. Growing up, I'd watched my mother become the beating heart of our pack. My father led with strength and wisdom, caring for every member like his own children, but nothing could replace a mother's nurturing touch. This pack had been starving for that maternal love for far too long.
